Effortless cheese gratingI have owned an Oxo cheese grater for a couple of months now and dreaded the chore of grating a pound of hard cheese. My hands actually hurt when I was done. A few weeks ago we went to an Italian restaurant and the waiter offered parmesan. I watched him as the cheese covered my pasta and I noticed that he didn't put in any effort and yet, the cheese came flying out of the barrel. I asked him about the cheese grater and he said it's a Zyliss and he's been using it for months without any problems. As soon as we got home I went on Amazon and search for Zyliss cheese grater and to my surprise, there was the exact same cheese grater. The funny part is that it was actually cheaper than my Oxo. I've ground many pounds of aged parmesan with this product and it is an absolut delight with the Zyliss. I'd give it 10 stars if I could.5This thing rocks! No more grating my thumb! So I decided to try keto recently and along the way decided to try to stop eating pre-shredded cheese because it usually has corn or potato starch, which adds extra carbs. So I started grating my own cheese with a big cheap grater with a handle, and of course grated the crap out of my thumb. It was then that I decided to buy this. It comes assembled, and once you figure out how to take it apart for cleaning, it's very easy to use and clean. The handle doesn't lift like you would think, but if you twist the open end of the grater barrel the right way, it unscrews from the handle and they both come off. 5A must-have item for any kitchen...I've have owned a Zyliss Original Cheese Grater for years, until it was lost in a recent move. To replace it, I looked at the "Original" as well as the newer "Classic Rotary" design. The newer design has better features (reversible, microplane-style grating wheel), a nicer feel in your hand, and it's half the price of the Original. Zyliss makes great stuff, so I bought this expecting the best, and in general I have not been disappointed.However, one very, very small design flaw prevents this from being complete a 5-star review: inside the cheese chute, right where the chute meets the wheel, is a small ledge. While grating cheese, the pressure on the hand grip presses some of that delicious cheese into the corner of that ledge, where it stays so well it becomes an area you must clean specifically each time. This is an issue what should have been caught and fixed during product development, as it would be a very trivial issue to modify the chute design to eliminate the ledge.To be sure, you will love this grater, and you will love the price too, but cleaning that ledge will annoy you every time you have to do it. I still prefer this design to the "stick" grater, because it's just easier for everyone to get a good result, and this design prevents people's hands from touching the cheese during use.(By the way, if you wonder why anyone would go to the trouble of freshly grating hard cheese over your favorite pasta, salad, or whatever, rather than buying it already grated in a shaker can, by all means don't buy one of these. That way, I can have all the fresh Parmigiano-Reggiano you won't be eating.)4Pretty damn coolI love it. My family loves it. We used to use a hand-held flat cheese grater. It took forever to grind enough cheese out of that thing. This little jewel cranks out grated cheese like crazy. We tried all sorts of hard cheeses just to see the thing work, then froze some soft cheeses to see how they worked. Now we mix our cheeses just because it is so easy to do. Asiago/Parmesan rock fish? Simple. Pretty neat. It works. It's cheap. Easy to clean. Handy as hell. Buy one.5Awesome little shredder I am coming back and updating this review after having this shredder for a couple years now. I really can't see how some people have rated this 1 star. We use it a couple nights of the week and it works great. We only use it for Parmesan cheese but there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. The quality seems good and the ease of use is great. You literally cut off a chunk of cheese from your block, drop it in the shredder, close the hand and turn and you have grated cheese. It's hard to review further than that. Once dinners done, the tool easily comes apart and goes in the dishwasher. I can't think of anything that could or should be better on it. 5These are good when you don't use them oftenThese are good when you don't use them often. I bought them for my restaurant and within 2-3 weeks the plastic cracks and becomes unusable. I thought this was just one poorly made one however 3 extras I purchased all ended up in trash due to same reasons. This is the one to buy. We have used it and have no issues. I bought a look alike and it broke after about five ueses. The holes in the grating mechanism are so small that cheese just sticks to it instead of falling out, and when it does come out its in big globs. Awkward unwieldy design, and the cheap plastic flexes when pressure is applied.Difficult to disassemble and clean.When I attempted to use this with a softer cheddar, the barrel clogged after a few turns.This grater is worse than useless; it is a waste of one's time.This piece of junk is going straight to the trash bin.1DisappointingFull disclaimer: I bought this to grate garlic and ginger, but have also tried it with vegan Parmesan.It works, but as other reviewers mentioned, the fruits of your grinding labors generally end up enmeshed within the shredder and it s rather laborious trying to dig the goods out with a knife.It is also not easy to clean.This goes for the df cheese, garlic and ginger.It s easier to just peel and chop everything myself and to use a regular cheese grater for my cheese.Disappointing.1Greate Greater Just like the ZYLISS can opener we've had for years, this is a welcome addition to our kitchen. It does exactly what it is supposed to with ease. It's lightweight, but is not flimsy. Like another reviewer mentioned, we also keep ours in a large Ziploc bag in the fridge with the cheese, so it's ready to go. We only use it for Parmesan, but if we needed to shred another cheese, it disassembles and cleans up with ease. 5Simple Professional for consumer priceThis is the same one used in restaurants, and after using it for a few weeks I understand why. It's so easy to use. I use it on Parmesan Arregiano cheese. It makes fluffy small grated cheese quickly and easily. To clean I dump extra cheese pieces into a small tupperware so I can use it again the next time. You can easily take it apart by turning the handle in reverse direction, for me that's counterclockwise since it's mounted on the right. You have to hold the other end of the rotating barrel to stop it from turning in reverse. Sometimes I just rinse the whole thing in water without taking it apart because the cheese I use is hard & not sticky. I love it and wish I'd bought it a long time ago. I plan to use it with chocolate to make a grated topping for ice cream next.5
