Customer Reviews

Needs sturdier construction in order to be a winnerIt's okay for the price, but isn't built as well as I'd hoped. I bought it as a much-needed upgrade from the copy paper box I was using. Unfortunately, one of the joints is weak and allows the arm to bend too far. So, if I want the tray to be stable, I have to wedge a pack of mini Post-It's under the weaker side. And there went my professional-looking upgrade! :)I also found that the range of workable angles was limited. I currently use the tray parallel to my desk surface. I might have preferred setting it at an angle, but it was challenging to find an angle and height combination that provided enough stability. 3Affordable yet purposeful standing deskPROS:For the price you pay this is a very purposeful standing desk. The levers adjust properly for you to maintain the desk at a comfortable height. The mouse pad and the keyboard tray are big enough to accommodate for any kind of mouse or keyboard.CONS:Yes its not as robust as one of those wooden ones that do not shake / vibrate at all when you are typing. By vibrate I mean move ever so slightly that you would not even realize. I am a heavy typer, who strikes the keys on the keyboard with some force and hence feel it. If you are someone who does not have that huge a typing stride then even better.BOTTOM LINE:But having spoken about minuses, I still feel for around $50 this is still a steal and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for an affordable alternative to those expensive standing desks. 4Great if you stand up and leave it in that ...Great if you stand up and leave it in that position. I was initially excited to receive this product as I do a lot on the computer and with my recent back injury, it is a great option to be able to stand when my back becomes tired. Upon receiving the product, there was almost no assembly required, yeah! The only assembly is putting the mouse pad into a slot. When figuring out how to make the keyboard tray stand, the push button is very intuitive and yet at the same time clunky. The buttons are hard to press in and I found out that you don t do them at the same time. You should do one side at a time. So, starting with one side, pushing the rear push button degree dial, the first leg goes backwards which makes the front push button appear. The front push button dial comes forward (the tray comes towards you). The last dial, is then revealed which is the keyboard tilt; allowing the proper ergonomics of a negative tilt with the keyboard. Once you have this set for one side, then you can do the other. This product is a major disappointment for me. The overall construction of it is light which is a great aspect, for me, it is how clunky the push buttons are and how the legs move. It would be nice to push the button, lift in the direction stated in the directions, which I feel also lacks, and have it move with ease. This would make it an ideal keyboard tray for sitting and standing. One last thing, the depth of the tray is really large for my keyboard; maybe if there were different sizes to choose from to allow for different keyboard sized. This keyboard tray was 60bucks and has great potential. 3Exactly what I was looking for... but failsThis is exactly what I wanted: a simple way to be able to stand at my desk at home without having to buy a full adjustable desk setup. I figured I would just put the monitor on an arm attached to the wall and use these to raise the keyboard as needed. And it worked great, until I started typing. It shakes about a quarter of an inch or more side-to-side when extended to 15". I'm a developer and spend a lot of the day typing, so this was a non-starter.Pros:* The locking adjustable legs are nicely designed allow a wide range of adjustments, make it easy to keep it symmetric, and not have it slip over time.* The keyboard tray is plenty wide and deep enough for my keyboard and to still have room to rest ones wrist if they lineCons:* The leg joints connecting to the tray are so loose it shakes a _lot_* The mouse area is 50% too small -- no room to put one's wrist and not even enough room to cover a large monitor without picking the mouse upI managed to use it less than two hours before boxing it up. 2Bounces, hard to position, and the mouse-pad is useless. It's definitely not what I expected. It takes a LOT to adjust so will probably end up being something I put under the desk when I'm not using it.The keyboard tray part is largely stable, but does wobble from side-to-side under my more...agressive...typing style. If you don't rest your wrists on it it should be fine. The mouse pad is completely useless. *WAY* too small for realistic mousing and it flops around largely unsecured. I'll probably end up picking up some sheet aluminum and building something more sturdy going forward and attaching it using something more sturdy than gravity. Not going to return it, but when you buy it, make sure you know what you're getting. 2Does what it should, with a little bit of workThis is probably the best stand-up keyboard setup under $200. It's fairly easy to set up, and while not infinitely adjustable, the 30-degree stop points seem to work well enough. The mouse pad is a little small for its intended purpose, but I'm using mine with a Kensington trackball, which fits perfectly. Others have complained about the stand moving around; mine stays in place on the melamine mat that I've had under the keyboard since it wasn't elevated. Yes, I wish it had a little more weight, but placed on the mat it tends to stay put.A couple of tips: 1) Attach the plastic blocks to the edge of the keyboard tray to help make all the the thinnest keyboards more stable. 2) If your keyboard and mouse/trackball don't have non-skid pads on their bottom sides, you may need to add some rubber feet or molding. 3) Play around with the various combinations of leg angles; some of them are more stable than others. I found that lowering the angle of the lowest part of the stand (near the table or desk) and compensating with the upper part makes a more stable setup. 4So close, yet so far...I'm not sure what's more frustrating: a product that is truly bad, or a product that has the potential to be great but instead took some poor design/business decisions that make it merely "meh".The Uncaged Ergonomics WorkEZ Keyboard Tray falls into the latter category.THE GOOD:- One of the very few products that limits its scope to just keyboard & mouse. Most other products include a feature for a monitor or laptop. This has found its niche as a product for those of us who have an existing desk setup with monitors that are adjustable, and we merely want something that allows us to place our keyboard/mouse on a riser so that we can stand.- since it is limited in scope and features, it is therefore reasonable priced. I didn't need nor want to spend over a hundred dollars (or more) on a Varidesk (or one of its clones)- Somewhat decent number of options for adjusting height and keyboard tray incline- Lastly, I think they had a good idea with the separate mouse platform that you can attach to either left or right side, and you can adjust the angle so that it is flat if you decide you place your keyboard on an incline.THE BAD (aka why in the world would you not test this out and/or make these decisions?):- Since the item is very lightweight, there is nothing designed to compensate for the fact that it will move around your desk as if it's on ice skates. This could have so easily been rectified by choosing soft/rubberized plastics where the legs meet the desk. At the very least they should include rubber/vinyl bumpers that you can stick on. That's what I wound up doing and it made the product 100x better.- They advertise the ergonomic option of configuring the keyboard tray so that it can be positioned on an angle. i.e., tilting down and away from you. What they don't show/tell you is that your keyboard will also act as if it is on ice skates, and slide around while you type. Yes the keyboard tray is made of lightweight aluminum and has a textured surface, but it's still slippery as hell. Again I'm not sure why they didn't opt for treating the surface with some type of powdered/rubberized coating, or again include more rubber/vinyl bumpers that you need to apply to the bottom of your keyboard. That's what I did, and again it made the product so much better.- I have several issues with the separate mouse platform attachment. First of all, it's too small. Because the surface of the platform is rather rough you need to use a mouse pad. However it is difficult to find a square mouse pad that is 7in by 7in. Most mouse pads are rectangular, and I'm not exactly sure why they didn't just make the mouse platform the same depth as the keyboard tray. Secondly, I find that the mouse platform is rather wobbly, even when securely attached correctly. I think the product would feel so much more polished and professional if the attachment mechanism was re-designed or if the metal used was thicker so that it didn't bend so easily. In summary, at first I was very disappointed in the product, but after the significant upgrade of applying about a dozen vinyl bumpers ($3 at Home Depot) and cutting a mouse pad down to size, I am now really happy with the purchase. I've been standing at my desk for 2 days straight and there's no looking back! If you're willing to apply some vinyl bumpers and trim down a mouse pad, I think you will come to like this product.Hopefully Uncaged Ergonomics will take my suggestions into consideration when refreshing this product for the next version. Again I really think it has a unique niche and provides a lot of value if only they would tweak a few things here and there. 3Wide range of keyboard height and angle combinationsChanging to a workstation setup that allows me to alternate between standing and seated work positions, I bought this adjustable keyboard and mouse tray. It came today and I pulled it out of the box and set it up in about two minutes....including reading the instructions. The instructions are illustrated and quite clear, but not necessary for most computer users. You hold in a button at each of three leg joints, rotating the leg segment to the desired angle and releasing the button to lock the joint in place. Each joint makes a distinctive click when it is locked. I like the wide range of height and tray angle adjustment available. The mouse tray drops in place on the left or right side through a slot in the keyboard tray. The mouse tray angle is independently adjustable, so you can keep your mouse level while angling the keys a little. Unit is light weight, which allows me to easily set it aside when I want to sit at my desk. Well thought out, well made unit. 5One Great Affordable product for the rest of usExcellent Product! Needing a standing option to use at work where I am sitting and on phone all day. I have leg & knee pain and need to be able to stand when it acts up. This fills all requirements for me and have recommended it to others.1-Reasonably priced 1/10 the price of vs "the" high priced advertised standing desk2- Reasonable footprint for an average workplace desk set-up -doesn't over power the space or look crazy out of place big3- Basically one piece (plus small mouse shelf) Easy set up -seems a little tricky but be patient and you will "get" how to adjust to perfect level for you. Tip: try to adjust opposite "joints" together till you get the right positioning. It's a little counter-intuitive4- Light, easy to lift with 1 hand, so work space can be quickly changed when desired. When not in use I simply move it to the side of my desk space or put it under my desk as is and can put it to use just as quickly in seconds actually when I want without breaking my work flow.* What you don't know until you do it but Standing can be tiresome for long periods but for short intermittent periods 15-30 min standing can be just what you need to remain productive energized alleviate pain and not be forced to try to work while distracted by pain from sitting.*Angling the key board down and away from you will make this very comfortable to use- the mouse holder can remain level. Of course your monitors ideally should move up and down with you if possible-when standing angle the screen tilted back slightly for ease of sight & use. 5Worth it!!!Perfecto, i was doubtful at first but it s worth the 50$. A desk job can take a toll on your health, sitting 8-10 hea a day is not good and the frew breaks and lunch time is not enough to stretch and walk. I love it. For this price, it s ideal. I cut am old mouse pad and placed it below so it won t slip, but you can put a pit of glue from a glue gun like silicone so it won t slide. You can t beat this price at all.The set up was easy, I read some negative reviews but i m telling you this thing is perfect. I have no problems using it nor do i have problems with the unit at all. This is exactly as described. The legs can be tricky because you have to set it up as you wish, but it took me no more than 5 minutes to adjust it to what/ where i needed it. 5
