Customer Reviews

I like it but.So here is the thing. The food works out well and it tastes good but I made the mistake of opening a packet to prepare it and quickly realized that once the packet is open it is somewhat a challenge to ration it from that point. If I wanted to just make one serving of pudding, for example, I would have an extremely dry pudding mix open to the air that I would never again be able to reseal. It might be more labor-intensive packing wise but I think it would be much better if you could buy 2 serving size pouches. Then I could just grab what it was I was going to eat and not have to think about it. One for my wife one for me no repackaging, no restoring it, no breaking it down into smaller portions. I made the rookie mistake of preparing a whole package of pudding and had to throw some of it away. Tasted like pudding though, and it was very easy to mix up. I bet the entrees would be pretty good but I won't dare try them because I wouldn't have an effective method to reseal the remainder for longterm storage. Please reconsider how you package the portions together, If you can't create a reusable packet. Possibly consider my suggestion of putting a higher number of smaller packets in your kits or at least give individuals and smaller families the opportunity to select how many serving sizes come in the packets. Thanks for the survival food gives me something to fall back on if a bad hurricane comes through South West Florida and knocks us about. 4Taste was good. Serving size was excellentTaste was good. Serving size was excellent. Could even stretch to get more than 4 servings a bag, because 4 servings were large. We made it in a covered pot. We were told by the Wise salesman to add a 1/2 cup less water and it came out perfect. We tried the beef stroganoff. Would highly recommend this company for long term and emergency food storage! 4Whats in the boxfirst thing to know is 104 servings is not 104 meals. about 23 % of this kit is whey milk. they food taste pretty good, i was pleasantly surprised. most of the meals are about 4 servings to 1 packet and is easier to cook the whole packet than to try to make 1 serving (hard to distribute mixed ingredients evenly). 1 serving will get you by, but leave you hungry. full-size adult, 2 servings would be better.i would like this kit better if all food was in 1 or 2 serving size packets, that would a lot easier to prepare in any situation. for the money, not a lot of food, but remember that your buying more than food. you are paying for food that will last for a long time without refrigeration when food will not be available anywhere else, then it becomes priceless, eat or die. 4Waste of moneyLousy flavor and minuscle portion sizes. Better off buying dried rice and beans 1Poor cooking instructionsI am pretty savvy when it comes to camping and all the details of survival. Directions are very poor and food would not cook (soften) thoroughly. Also, many items had NO instruction how to cook. There was also a lot of different proportions with each of the different items, consistency would be great.Food was edible, but mountain house is far superior.... 2bleh!Tastes horrible, truly only in a survival situation 1Good thing to have on hand just "in case"This makes my 4th. purchase from Wise Emergency food supply. have not opened the sealed buckets. I have them stored on my "just in case" shelves. My husband is the one that suggested we get the 4th. one. He said you know if there is an emergency and our family or friends needs food we would share with them. Also knowing that the shelf life is 25 years means a lot. It is always better to be safe then sorry. It is kind of like they did years ago when they preserved food by drying and canning, except this takes a lot less room and the shelf life is longer. 5Check your bucketThis is 24 meals, unless you ration it. They boost the serving count with things such as 12 servings of "butter sauce". Make sure you open the bucket to see what's in it, as I was missing a pouch and had to call the company to get one sent. Only two stars because of the missing content, meager serving sizes, and inflating serving count (though at least they published it in the description). 2Substandard product, at best.I'm incredibly disappointed by these rations. After years of being absolutely spoiled by Mountain House, I decided to give these a try because they were on sale. 104 servings, I thought, for $88 - it's cheaper, looks nice, and hey, it comes in a box, and I can always use that after I'm done with it.First off, the packaging. The packaging of these meals is absolutely terrible. It's that faux-aluminum foil stuff that they used in US MRE's for years and years, and everyone hated. I haven't even had the mealpack for 20 minutes and, already, I'm just shaking my head. Compared to the Mountain House rations that I get - where every individual meal is packaged in a re-sealable package, labelled clearly and colorfully, with nutrition information on every ration - these packages are just garbage. The only identification that you get is a small, stamped label for anything that isn't a main meal; and about 75% of the package ISN'T main meals. These packages are just awful, especially after what I've had in the past. It's no longer the 70s, Wise, no one is impressed by foil-lined packages anymore.Secondly, the meals. The meals are awful. Not only are about 75% of them just not main meals (Instead, accessories meant to enhance meals made in the wild, or the pre-packaged ones), the main courses just taste terrible. Mine were only manufactured in 2017, and they tasted stale and flavorless. I had to bust into my own, homemade ration accessory packets just to smother it in salt and pepper, because literally none of that is included with the meals. Instead, you'll be let to enjoy things like dried strawberries and "butter sauce," that is more akin to liquefying cardboard then it is to do with butter. Honestly, I'd be much better off just making my own meals from what I've got lying around of 80s and 90's era MRE's and Mountain House packets. At least, then, I'd have something resembling a coherent meal.Third, the ease of use.I cannot believe that these packets passed any sort of QC. Christ, for half of them you've got to pour boiling water in - the packets aren't even thick enough to protect yours hands while it's cooking the meal, and most of the water portions are WILDLY off, creating some sort of odd stew of whatever the heck you managed to salvage from trying to get the bags even open. Compare this to Mountain House - which has a quick-rip top, resealable packaging, and thick-bottomed packages - and honestly you're just left wondering why these two products are even remotely the same price.Maybe I've been spoiled by US MRE's and Mountain House supplements. Maybe I've come to expect a better product for my price over the years, and just managed to get bamboozled this time. And, you know, I have to hand it to them : these meals are, TECHNICALLY, food. I have to give it two stars for that, because some of these products, in conjunction with stuff I've already bought, are marginally useful. But I'd never waste my cash on this set again when Mountain House offers a far superior product for about the same price. Whatever hooligan dreamed up this "survival kit," I'll never know, but I wish him all the best in life. God bless him/her, really, because it proves that you don't have to know anything about squat to work for Wise. 2Great packaging. I have to assume the food inside ...Great packaging. I have to assume the food inside will stay good. If it turns out that in 20 years the world ends and this stuff tastes like crap, you can expect to find a scathing review on here. 5
