Yes, It may tear, but...
I use it to freeze soup in, and my first buy teared from the middle like other reviews. It's not made to be weighted unevenly, which will happen pretty much anyway you hold it not on a flat surface. The weight of freezing liquid also may be more than baking batter it was probably made for, and one can probably avoid the tearing by always having it sitting on a pan.I'm buying this again because I cannot find anything with comparable loaf volume. I may cut the mold into individual loaves, so I don't have to worry about it tearing. Otherwise fine quality. UPDATE 9/25/17: New one does not have the joints to the middle that caused it to rip. I expect this one will hold up better.
4Versatile silicone pan, very nice quality!
I use this as a mold for homemade dishwasher detergent tablets. I've heard of people using ice cube trays for the same purpose but I imagine that getting them out would be next to impossible and quite a headache. They are somewhat crumbly so, this tray is PERFECT for that. All you have to do is push from the bottom and it comes out in a perfect square mold. I'm really impressed. I have purchased products by Wilton before for various baking purposes and they really make quality stuff. Considering how easily these dishwasher tabs fall apart, I imagine that candy, chocolates, and ice would come out with no problem at all. The tray can be used in refrigerator, freezer, microwave or the oven (up to 500 degrees!). I can think of about a billion other uses for this tray (baby food, homemade beauty products, brownies, bars) and I expect that I will be using it for quite a long time.In case you are wondering how much each cavity holds, I would say a little over a tablespoon per cavity. My detergent recipe calls for a tablespoon per tablet and the was just a little room left over after I filled it.This is really easy to clean. I didn't have a problem with sticking and it held up just fine in the dishwasher. I would definitely recommend this product! Excellent quality!
5Buy expensive silicone.
I have a very expensive silicone square baking "pan" that I love. I bought this. Right after opening it I wasn't sure. It feels different than the expensive one. The expensive one feels almost greasy or slippery. This didn't. NOTHING sticks to my expensive one.I made egg "muffins" in this muffin pan. Essentially they are egg whites, spinach, salsa, baked. Low calorie. They stuck in the pan, I could get them out with a knife but they left behind tons of egg which was very difficult to get out. Then I tried regular cornbread muffins in this pan. Same thing, they left behind a lot of muffin and I had to really scrub to get it out.Lastly, I cooked both of the above recipes in the expensive silicone pan and nothing stuck, they popped right out. Again they feel entirely different this blue muffin pan isn't slippery it feels porous, which is why stuff is sticking to it. Save your money and buy the expensive silicone. In my testing the good stuff is VERY different.
1Dimensions too big for my lozenges...
Careful, everyone, about the sizing description. The dimensions were somewhat vague to me, so I have attached a photo of a ruler next to the tray cavities so you can see the size for yourself. These are too deep and wide for me!
3LOVE
Recently started making homemade bath bombs but had such a hard time with the metal and plastic molds so I decided to give these a try. My bath bombs came out of the molds so easy w/o any crumbling or cracking.
5Great for crafts...NOT food...
These are great for crafts. I would NOT use them for food. Using the twist-test, it turns white-ish...telling me it's not pure silicone. Twisting a bit of the silicone, if it turns white-ish, it s got plastic fillers.Pure silicone will retain its color. So for crafts...these are great. But you're limiting.
3Great for banana breads and loaf cakes. Browns well and cleans up easily.
Worked great for some mini-loaf cakes I made. I was originally concerned that cakes would not brown as well in this (versus a metal pan), but that was not the case. I tried apply shortening to one of the cavities, and nothing in the others. The cake in the cavity with shortening was not browned as well as the ones with nothing. The others were perfect, and fell right out if the pan when I flipped it over. It was also very easy to clean. I do believe that you need to set this on a cookie sheet when baking. i.e.; not directly on the oven rack.
5Great for Christmas Baking
I ordered these with trepidation after I read about the scorching (another review). However, I have had no such difficulty. No smell, no scorching, just great little loaves that are perfect for Christmas gift giving. (Dimensions for each cavity: approximately 2 inches by 5 inches, 2 inches deep.) No sticking, easy clean up. You will want to put the pan on a cookie sheet to keep the pan from bending in the middle as you place it in the oven.
5Perfect for my project
I saw an idea of making heart shaped crayons out of old crayons. With plenty of time on my hands, I set out to make some for the kids attending our wedding this fall. (crazy... I know). Starting with a small mountain of old crayons I melted them with this item in the oven, let them cool on the counter and they popped right out. I've made over 200 little heart crayons so far, not because I need that many but they were so easy to make. The silicone mold is showing no signs of wear, a little discolored though I haven't tried cleaning it yet. Far better than the cheap mold I tried before. I wish I would have bought two, since the one I have is being used for crafts I'd like another one for baking desserts.
5Perfect for bath melts
Based on the review I was t sure if these would be good size but it s the perfect size mold for bath bombs. I would recommend a hard item below because it gets super flimsy when filled. If this review was helpful please note so below thanks
