Customer Reviews

but works great for most other thing I have used it for Inefficient for tomatoes, but works great for most other thing I have used it for. I do wish they had a special berry screen, as some blackberry seeds sneak by. Part of the is around the edge, so that is it's main flaw, but overall very few seeds. Good product for the price, already have to years and entering third. Certainly cheaper than a Squeezo, if a bit limited. 4and like that I can switch the plates I used it once. It did alright while it lasted. I think it is designed well, and like that I can switch the plates, however...I hand washed and dried the thing, but still ended up rusting.Cons:*Rusts after single usePros:*Does what it's suppose to*I thought it was very well designed (exchangeable plates, comfortable hand crank, and narrowing pot that fits into bowls) 1Food Mill This is a fantastic food mill. When using the mill on tomatoes it gets almost all the seeds, the only ones that make it through are the ones smaller than the holes (obviously). It gets all the skin which is perfect, but the thing I really like is it gets all the meat! Almost nothing is wasted as long as you take some extra time. I processed 11 pounds of tomatoes in maybe 15 min. most. Best part is it is easy to disassemble and re-assemble.Pros- Easy to clean- Effecient- Strong buildConsIf any it is the amount of pressure you need to apply when assembling. I don't have a problem because I work with some heavy lifting. A person who had surgery and is limited to 5 or 10 pounds will not have a good time assembling this. 5Terrific piece of gear. Versatile and Sturdy I use this to grind dehydrated spice blends. I had a cheaper one that fell apart under the abuse. This one has already lasted longer and is in great shape despite the heavy use. Great ergonomics. Even grinding the most crystalline products go through easily and come out consistently. One caveat: There are no spreadable legs (which break on other mills) so you have to have a bowl the right diameter to work conveniently. Highly recommend! 5No good for baby food The baby food this creates is lumpy, even with the smallest filter. This is not useful to me.For people who say it just pushes the food around, try turning it the other way. If you rotate in one direction, it just pushes the food around. If you rotate it in the other direction it'll push food through. 1Ideas needed or I am returning it I'm not totally sold on this mill. I did successfully mash potatoes with it, when they start to spin without coming through, all you have to do is reverse a bit and go forth again. I did try dry herbs to separate them a bit, but it did just spin so maybe others have had their potatoes too dry. It is not made for dry products so it's ok that my dry herb project was a bust. MY issue with it is this - it is darn heavy! It is really well made in the details, however I couldn't do any work with it without a hand from another to hold it in place on the bowl because it is also slippery. I think I would prefer one with legs. Before I return it, I wanted to check here to see if anyone had a suggestion for how to get it to stay still on a bowl or not tip the bowl over without having extra hands or holding it in the air. 3Good quality. Handsome, easy-to-use and is a good size. The finest mesh removed some but not all raspberry seeds for my jam. I usually put about half of my berries through a mill and leave the other half whole, with seeds. With this mill, I had to process the whole batch - all the berries - in order to sufficiently reduce the number of seeds. Didn't take too long, and we are very happy with the resulting product. 4Saved tons of prep time, a lifesaver for making apple butter/applesauce. This thing is magical!!! If I were making more apple butter from scratch and had to chose between this mill and a unicorn I'd go with this mill. Seriously. This is a tremendous prep timesaver as well. Having to peel, core and then quarter the apples would have taken me at least an hour. With the mill I only quartered the apples before cooking them.I was able to quickly mill more than 10 pounds of apple into more than 17 cups of applesauce (in their brief stop prior to becoming apple butter). when I say quickly, I mean that using this mill it was under 5 minutes. Stupid fast and super convenient. I used the middle sized disc (3mm medium) It prevented all but 1 seed from being milled. I only emptied the seeds/peels once during the operation (by scooping them out with a spoon). The catch? There isn't really one. There is a very slight learning curve on assembly (think-not near the pain of ikea assembly)Ok a few issues-mainly because I've never used a food mill before. So, hope this helps another user:-Although the pictures in the brochure show the hooks for the pan as pointing up, they actually are pointed down.-Insert your disc where the center hole looks like a tiny mount. Insert blade/handle attachment. Make sure post of blade/hand is seated in the hold on the disk. At this point the blade/handle attachment doesn't quite fit. But you have springs around the center post. Position the bar of your blade/handle attachment so that the larger/thicker end can be hooked underneath the hook on the pan. Then press down and hook the other side. It's a little awkward but after you've done it once you won't have any problems. 5Sooo very awesome! Oh my gosh this little bugger is sooo great! A must have, especially if you cook and/or bake with fruit that has tiny seeds! - Has made my life so much easier. - (Side note) the directions say to turn the crank counter clockwise as a standard and only clockwise when going in reverse to dislodge food; I find the opposite to work better, clockwise as the standard and counter clockwise for when needing to reverse, but again a GREAT little kitchen helper. LOVE it. 5ABOVE AND BEYOND QUALITY FOR THE PRICE! Delivered on-time. This mill has a nice heft/weight to it and you can immediately tell that it is constructed with quality stainless steel and not cheap flimsy sheet metal. It is made to be used and will stand up to having manual force applied to it without failing and falling into a bowl or pot full of your ingredients ending in you covered in a mess! Assembly was required however it could not have been simpler, we're talking about 10 seconds to assemble. This also means it will break-down equally quickly for cleaning. Given the ease of assembly it is of no concern to swap between the three different sized mill plates. I am extremely satisfied with this purchase and top it of with a price tag under 20 bucks? Are you serious, I feel like I'd be willing to pay twice this amount for this level of quality. This purchase should be a no-brainer for you. I hope this review helped. 5
