Customer Reviews

Tough old style coal shovel that's great for snow.I always look for old coal shovels at garage sales but they are pretty few and far between these days. They are the best for snow if you have a little manly strength. This can easily scrape up icy patches that lightweight plastic or aluminum snow shovels just can't handle. This shovel is very well built and will last beyond my years and I'm 59. I personally expect 60 years of service with it. ;-) 5An awesome tool for a tool guy !I am a professional leather crafter, I spend a great deal of money on ( mainly ) US made tools, because their quality is directly related to my making a superior product for my customers.I try and keep that philosophy towards all products I purchase.I threw out the last plastic Chinese garbage shovel 7 years ago when I found a great steel push shovel on Amazon. I found that I really need an old- school coal shovel to break up the underlying ice after our last major storm.I did not hesitate to look up this Truper shovel and ordered it. Upon delivery, one look and I knew it was the type of tool this country should be selling and producing. Happy camper- this thing is a beast.Enjoy, yipeokia 1 ( Bonfe Leather ) 5Love it!Finally a shovel that doesn't hurt your hand. I bought two others before this looking for the " right one". The others didn't have any padding in the handle and the metal on the shovel wasn't completely folded over causing a sharp edge. This one is a padded handle and the metal is not sharp where it connects. I'm keeping it and really like it. 5Great Snow ShovelThis is a great scoop/shovel. I bought it because I wanted a snow shovel that would last. This is a pro quality tool. It's a little smaller than the plastic shovel it replaces, and its heavier. But no doubt it will last. 5Much better for my back.I'm 6'8" and I love the length (33112 coal/street cleaner shovel with 51" handle). I also added a Stout Backsaver Grip to the middle.I bought this to clear snow off my sidewalk. The standard snow shovel doesn't work the best, because my sidewalks have an irregular stone surface. This made clearing snow much easier, though instead of a long pushing motion, I have to use shorter strokes to remove snow. 5Do not buy this shovel-long handled grain shovel. The shovel plastic scoop was discovered to be broke/cracked on the second use today-12-19-18. I can not recommend buying this shovel as it is too fragile to use without breaking. Strongly disappointed after waiting for a long shipping time as well, and having it broken/cracked where the wood handle goes into the shovel head on the second use. 1Great Shovel !!!Finally used it this season.Wow,It'ts sturdy and cuts thru snow, slush, and ice with ease.So glad I bought it,wish I didn't have to use it. 5Sand and gravel shovel.Long handle is 60 inches, with the proper angle for moving sand, gravel, and some organic materials. Larger volume than digging shovels but not as large as a grain scoop. Easy motions possible for large volumes of material. I like it for preparing planting mix. Wet sand might build some muscles, i.e. baselayers for brick pathways. A gauge of steel appropriate to materials transfer, not to be confused with digging. Some steel flex in the neck, but riveted and a good steel collar will give me something to watch over the years. Made in Mexico, the quality ash handle could have been inserted in the neck a half inch more (I might add a second through rivet, since the separate stout collar appears to be fixed in place and limited by the diameter of the handle, and is not designed for adjustments.) There was not a cushioned section on the handle, as in the description, and none is needed. I do not earn a living with this shovel, and I am not familiar with the No. 1 Blade or the the No. 3 Blade, if they exist. If you mix soils, or work on a slab or flat area moving uniform materials this is a good bet. Works well with a broom for cleanup, welcome with the long handle. 5High quality shovelHeavy duty work shovel. What more could be said. 5Tough shovel. Extra weight tires you faster than poly.Tough shovel, wide head, low profile scoop, built heavy like a tank. I think the people who want this shovel are like farmers who NEVER complain about really tuff work and want something well made and durable.Took several weeks to receive even with Amazon Prime, shipped by Amazon. The heavy, thick blade makes it durable and good for chopping ice and scraping lumps. The width is good for scooping but, is too wide for digging through packed down, trampled snow. The wider a head the less pressure to scrape and dig in with so you have to chop it loose, first.Again, this shove is a good shovel and will last many years BUT honestly, it would lose in a long race with a lighter shovel and a dedicated ice chipper/scraper.It is heavy enough that for most people, long, continuous jobs will give you a hell of a work out and tire you fast and you'll look just like city workers you make fun of taking many breaks. Think of when you used a 16+ lb sledge hammer and you took breaks every 5 minutes (even small breaks) of intense hammering. That is how I was when I used this shovel to help a friend make a path for his forklift (no tire chains) on a lot of packed snow and thickly iced asphalt. In comparisson, I shoveled heavy, icy snow for 6-8 hrs straight for 5 days with lighter shovels.A good average scraping shovel might be a long handle 11" wide x 11" square nose steel shovel, but I can't find one that size. A standard square nose is 11x9". 5
