large draw knife at good pricemeets my needs for a large draw knife that i i can aford5I recommend itGreat product does a good job de barking logs for my wall tent5Strong and well builtThis is not intended to be a draw knife as one would use on a shaving horse. Its a very heavy duty tool for stripping bark off of logs.5Came very dull had to get out the grinder to put a ... Came very dull had to get out the grinder to put a edge on it then my sharping stones..... If you have 2 hrs to spare to get it sharp then it's a good deal..... 3Two StarsVery poor steel, to high price, and you can't cut butter with it.2Edge still sharp after 3 pealed logs and going strong!Pealed three 16' logs so far and edge is still sharp. The Made in China tempered steel is OK! and these logs (D-fir & P-pine) aren't green, but one year old dry logs with tough bark! As another reviewer mentioned, the draw knife didn't come sharpen, but after 5 minutes of a wet stone...I was off and pealing! Remember to knock off paint on backside of cutting edge, otherwise you'll be sharpening with wet stone all day. I really like the way the handles are assembled (lock nuts) and even though I've tighten them once, I see the utility if handles ever break.4Are you making furniture or debarking logs?I had some large diameter (16-17 inch) maple log stumps that I wanted to make into rustic stools for around my fire pit, and I was looking for a tool to use for stripping the bark and rough-cleaning the logs. After doing some research, I settled on a draw knife (draw shave). Timber Tuff seemed to be generally well reviewed. However, I was hesitant about buying this draw knife after reading some of the reviews about the edge being poorly formed, or even not-at-all sharp. I was a little confused that some reviewers said they used it right out of the box, though, without issues. I wondered whether I needed to buy a whetstone or honing tools. Ultimately, I decided on the 13 inch-bladed knife and decided that I would just try using it as it came. Before today, I had never used a draw knife, and within 45 minutes, I had the largest log fully stripped and cleaned. It can be seen in my first several photos. In less than 90 minutes, I had 2 logs completed. I'm not sure if it was the sharpness of the blade, or just my fatigue (likely a little of both), but the cutting did seem to slow a little on the second log. After cleaning with a little WD40 you could barely tell the knife had been used (see photos). The edge looked pretty much like it did out of the box. So many reviewers complained that the edge was a "poorly ground made-in-China edge". However, it's pretty obvious that the knife was sharp enough to strip large logs. I can see where a furniture maker might want a perfect razor sharp edge, but I feel like this might be a liability in log stripping, as it could easily catch up on irregularities in the surface of the wood. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the Timber Tuff draw knife, and I easily got my money's worth on the job it did with my logs. If you're just looking to debark a few logs, and you're not really interested in investing in a bunch of blade sharpening equipment before you even use the tool, this knife WILL do the trick.5Complete waste of moneyJunk! Mine did not even have an edge! More made in China junk, nothing more...Very sorry I bought it1I like to sharpen things anywaysI reviewed the comments before purchasing. The price point was in my ball park. Buyers found the draw knife adequate for stripping bark of of fallen trees. The edge of the knife out of the box is sharp. Mine the bottom was angled up and not intirely flat. I like to sharpen things anyways. The steel is excellent. Good hardness. Worked it on a stone for about eight hours over a week. Used a file in the last stages. The steel resisted the cutting edges of the file. Its good at this stage but needs a little more filing and honing. The handles are at a good and comfortable angle to work many hours without fatigue setting in. Other similar product was over a hundred dollars and I still would have sharpened it. I recommend because hands tools are a personal commodety .5Good toolWorks well on fresh cut yellow pine to clear off the bark and to provide a flat reference.4... people knocked this product because they said it was super dull out of the boxA lot of people knocked this product because they said it was super dull out of the box. Mine came pretty dang sharp and I am impressed with the quality overall for the price. Heavy and solid. Does what I need it to do.4
