Customer Reviews

good qualitySeemingly pencils are pencils but i find that this brand seems to be of particularly good quality. The lead doesn't need constant sharpening and they don't break all apart when sharpened. You will need a sharpener for the larger size pencil so keep that in mind. 5#1 Pencil Out ThereMy son has SPD and was constantly breaking his pencils at school just so he could sharpen them. He was going through a couple dozen of the other popular brand of #2 pencils every week. My son's occupational therapist recommended these pencils and I will not buy him anything else now. We started giving him these pencils when he was in 1st grade and now in 2nd grade he is still using them.PROSMy son has broken the tip of these pencils only a couple times. The larger grip helps him form his letters more correctly, which helps, but doesn't solve, his messy handwriting.CONSThe initial cost is more than buying other brands of pencils but in the long run it has been less expensive for us because we are not buying dozens of pencils every week.My son is still able to rip off the eraser and the metal band which holds the eraser but I'm sure there isn't a pencil around that could prevent that from happening.I recommend the Ticonderoga brand to everyone and the larger Primary size to anyone who needs better control with forming their letters more neatly. 5Only Pencil Worth BuyingI'm a kindergarten teacher and I only buy these pencils. This brand is the best for sharpening (never breaks in the pencil sharpener) and the thick pencils are best because they are very difficult to break, which means less time sharpening. My students love these pencils. They're costly, but they last a long time, so I don't mind buying them. Only thing that is a bummer is that they last waaaaay longer than the eraser. I wish there was a way to reattach new erasers to old pencils so my students wouldn't fight over erasers LOL. 5The Very Epitome Of Pencil-ness Writ LargeThese are well constructed and particularly excellent for arthritic-y hands in cold weather. The graphite is about twice the diameter of standard pencils, they sharpen up very nicely in the Baumgartens two-hole sharpener, and maintain a large, fine point. They don't break as easily in the in the top front overalls pocket as the standard pencils and carpenter's pencils are prone to do.We use them for marking the date on goose eggs we have for sale, and they are ideal for that purpose. They're also well-suited for the more mundane every-day pencil tasks.Worth every penny - you'll like 'em. 5 A Teacher's Big Helper! As a teacher in NYC Public Schools, I was plagued with "the pencil problem!" That is, every year the kid's pencils were consuming so much time with sharpening and losing pencils that one year I actually assessed the amount of time lost with this process and found out that it was hours which mounted up to a few days a year of wasted time sharpening pencils!Something had to be done!I devised a system whereby I sharpened everything before class, wrapped each pencil in velcro and attached to the student's desk. Presto, no more problem with the loss of pencils and the constant pencil sharpening because I sharpened at least two of the pencils and more for the kids daily.BUT, I didn't know the REAL secret solution to "the pencil problem!" Finally one day, I happened to see one of my dear colleague's supply list which stated specifically TICONDEROGA pencils ONLY! "TICONDEROGA?" I asked, "They are the only ones I accept." responded my friend."Ah ha!" I thought, I found the answer to my problems! And, honestly, that is how I learned that TICONDEROGA pencils DON'T break and cause a lot of less problems in the classroom. So from then on I went with TICONDEROGA every year and would not allow any other pencils in my classroom. The velcro trick wasn't necessary anymore because the pencils were of great quality and lasted.I taught all grades in elementary school with these wonderful pencils.Little Pencil Finds His Forever Friends: A Rhyming Pencil Grip Picture Book (Early Childhood Series) (Volume 1) 5Not pre sharpened. Great pencilsThese are great! My 4.5 year old is able to hold these much easier than regular size pencils. These are NOT presharpened which is my own fault for not noticing so I had to find the right kind of sharpener for the diameter of these. 5Great for homework and to loan it to adult students; you're sure to get it back. These are the chubby pencils used in preschool and kindergarten. You will need a special sharpener to fit these pencils. My daughter is now in first grade and they no longer use in class, but we keep using them at home for homework. The larger lead allows us to see her writing where the regular size pencils are a fine tip and doesn't show up on her homework papers very well. I also like these fatter pencils to loan out to my adult students when they show up to class without a pencil; they're always happy to give it back. 5Large pencil will need large hole pencil sharpenerThese pencils are great for all users. Very strong. I keep them in my tool box and throughout my garage for quick use to scribe on wood or other projects. Easy to sharpen, I use a knife, but if you want to use a pencil sharpener, be sure to get one that sharpens larger diameter pencils. 5Love it!Love it! I started my 3 year old preschooler with the Ticonderoga My first TriWrite pencil she was struggling with regular pencils and the Tri Write helped her learn to grip pencil properly now she is moved onto these Beginners pencils without an issue! I Highly recommend Ticonderoga pencils for the kids! Thick solid and great quality! 5Great for writer's cramps!I bought these to prepare for and use during my GRE (on scratch paper), since it doesn't allow mechanical pencils. I found that they are about twice as large (in circumference) as a standard #2 pencil, with correspondingly large lead and erasers. The big unexpected benefit is that they require less force to hold because of their size, so I found that I didn't get as tired when using them! It also is fun to feel like a kid again, as they do look a bit cartoonishly large.Pros:-Can be used on standardized tests, both for bubble-filling and for scratch paper (at least for GRE/GMAT/LSAT/MCAT)-Large size is easier to hold, meaning reduced cramps from long periods of use-Eraser is about twice the size of a standard #2 pencil-Round shape has fewer stress points than the hexagonal pencils, so writing for a long time doesn't cause pain from pressureCons:-Because lead is larger, and I prefer to use a very sharp pencil, there is more wasted lead-Might not fit in some standard sharpenersI do love mechanical pencils, but if you have to have a #2, this is definitely the way to go! 5
