Nice and compact, but not my favorite for portable boosters. I loved that this booster was nice and compact when uninflated. The straps are very easy to adjust, too. This didn't seem as sturdy as other models I tried (specifically Summer Infant pop-up booster and Munchkin BRICA GoBoost), and I was questioning whether the inflatable aspect that made it compact would end up annoying us in the long run. Initially, we had to wait 24 hours for this to fully inflate. I'm not certain that it would fully inflate quickly in the future, and didn't have the time or patience to test it out several times. We went with the Munchkin BRICA GoBoost instead (additional info on why included in my review of that item). It's a little more pricey, but sturdy and functional (storage inside!). This would be great for traveling (air, train, etc.), but maybe not the best for an around-town booster where space may not be so much of an issue. 3Convenient but do NOT leave child unattended as chair can tip over I really like the idea of this seat, its really easy to carry around to relatives houses or restaurants so my daughter can sit at the table but I have to watch her carefully while she's sitting in it. She is strapped in so she physically will not slip out of the seat but one day she leaned to one side because she wanted something on the floor and the whole chair tipped over, thankfully i was able to catch the chair before she hit the ground. A solution to this is using a chair with arms or some how attaching the chair to the table. Just be very careful that your child does't drop something on the side of their seat or try to reach over to pick something up and fall over. Other than that this chair has been a life saver going as it allows her to sit at the table with us i just never walk away from her while she's in it 3Excellent seat and works the way it should! This thing is amazing! I bought it for my 21 month old, at the time she was about 17 month's old when I got it. She was tired of her high chair and would fuss like crazy to get out and didn't eat her food. She just wanted to sit with us at the table. I looked everywhere for something to resolve the problem and nothing looked safe or wasnt what I was looking for, until I came across this. It's so easy to use and it really stores so well. We've taken it to many restauraunts, friends homes, and we use it 3 times a day at home. It doesn't sag, or sink or shift for us (but my daughter is only 25-26 lbs). It cleans well too (even with spaghetti sauce on it). It's nice to have my kid buckled in at the dinner table and when we go out to eat. The booster seats at restaurants are not sturdy or safe imo, so this gives me peace of mind as well. I always recommend this to parents who need to transition from high chair to the table. 5OK for a back-up booster seat The First Years On-The-Go Booster Seat,Safari is an OK, budget friendly, portable booster seat. We already have a booster seat from Fisher Price, but my husband insisted we purchase something more portable for our various international trips. After using the products for some time now, here are my thoughts:Portability 5/5 StarsThe booster seat is lighter, more compact, and, hence, definitely more portable than our Fisher Price booster seat. It folds into a nice compact shape (12" X 2.25" X 11") that we can either carry like a bag or put in our luggage without taking up much space.Ease of use 3/5 StarsIt's pretty easy to set up, yes; it self inflates in a couple of minutes (the direction says it may take a bit longer if it's the first time), and all you're supposed to do is attach two buckle straps around the seat cushion and back post. I had trouble getting the straps to stay tight enough. I don't know if it's the fabric as it seems pretty shiny and slick or if the loops on the buckle is too loose, but when my little one would move or wiggle slightly, it would loosen up the slack. I did not have this problem with our other booster chair. We found a solution by tying a knot, but I imagine this defeats the purpose of having the convenience of a chair that you can quickly and easily adjust to whatever chair you're using.Furthermore, I found that the chair had a slight design flaw. The Velcro hook (the rough part) strip is located at the bottom of the booster seat, so you can't place the seat on top of most chair that has a fabric cushion or cover without ruining the fabric.Ease of cleaning 2/5 StarsThe chair is made out of a fabric material that is easy to wipe and clean when it comes to tiny messes: a dropped chuck here and there. But I'd imagine something like tomato sauce would stain the fabric if you weren't able to clean it up right away. The instruction manual states that you should clean the chair with a damp cloth or sponge using mild liquid soap (and to never soak the product in water), which you don't always have readily available when you're eating out, for example. I also think that the crevices of the chair is a magnet for crumbs, but a good vacuuming and shake should take out dry crumbs...wet, squished chunks of food is another story...Safety - 2/5 StarsThe instruction manual states that babies from 9 months up can use the chair, but I really wouldn't recommend this if your baby cannot sit up straight by him/herself yet. The chair offers little support and a baby who cannot sit up straight would definitely slump. Moreover, as the chair is flimsy with no side support, I also would not recommend this chair to a very wiggly child. As mentioned above, we had issues with the safety strap loosening when our little one would wiggle. LO is 18 MO and, in general, pretty good with sitting in his chair nicely still while eating, but I still would not leave him in the chair even to get something across the room. If he wanted to pick up something he dropped on the floor, for example, I don't think the waist straps has enough hold to keep him on the booster seat.Quality - 4/5 StarsConsidering the price, I wasn't expecting something super fantastic, but I was hoping the buckle straps would be better. Otherwise, the quality is what I expect of this type of booster seat: it's portable, lightweight, but you sacrifice a bit of the safety and ease of use.In summary:This is an OK booster seat, especially for the price, just don't expect the booster seat to be a replacement for a high chair or to be used as your second high chair/booster seat (which we are doing with our Fisher Price booster seat at home). We are keeping this seat for our international travels and as a back-up/temporary solution for visits to places that don't have a high chair. Personally, I still prefer to use the high chairs provided by restaurants (unless, of course, if it's really dirty and gross). 3Works I bought this after the whole family visited a local restaurant and all the high chairs were in use. It s a great size for my DIL to keep in the back of her vehicle. It is quite a bit smaller than a standard dining chair seat but it works. You just have to pull the right up to the table. I just expected it to fully fit the chair seat. As others have stated, this is best for a child who can fully support himself in a chair. The sides are basically non-existent although the child is strapped in well. We are using for a 16 month old and while he sits pretty still in it while eating would still not leave him in it without someone sitting right beside him. 4Awesome for Travel, Restaurants, and Even Everyday We LOVE THIS SEAT! I was hesitant to buy because the next comparable product is twice the price, but I'm SO glad we went with this model. It packs down SO small - think the size of a bible case if that means anything to you - but it works PERFECT as a booster/high chair. We used this for a week at a vacation rental in Florida for our 8 month old and it was the perfect height for him to belly up to the table with us. The self-inflating feature is so cool, and makes setup a breeze. It wipes clean just fine. I can't recommend it highly enough. We're going to take this along with us to restaurants from now on, too, no more dealing with icky high chairs. 5Unstable Unusable. Love the concept, but the cushion squishes down at the back so far it makes the baby unsafe. And, yes, I did make sure the plug was fully inserted. I even tried it a few different times in different chairs and it never worked correctly. 1Good, but could be better. While more portable than the plastic versions, it is not really stiff enough to prevent leaning to one side. The inflator works, but offers perhaps an 3/4 to 1 inch of increase. Often times works better without inflation. If your baby doesn't move around much, this might work for you. A wider waist strap or padding for the strap would be nicer. Straps are secure however, but be wary if the buckle happened to fall exactly at the edge of a seat back. If this happens, do a quick tie off to shorten the strap so that it lies flat. It's not the products fault, it's just how these buckles work. 3Lifesaver!! This was a lifesaver!! My two year old is on the hefty side, he's about 32lbs. He gets very uncomfortable in the standard wood restaurant high chair, but still needs to be strapped in so a regular booster doesn't work either. We've left restaurants due to him totally melting down out of discomfort. I bought this right before going on vacation. Needless to say, it was super easy to set up/take down. It also had plenty of room for him (did I mention he's a big boy?), it held his weight just fine and he was happy sitting in his chair!! He was happy though a number of meals...not melting down! It also is very portable, about the size of a large story book when folded. It's a tad heavier than I expected, but I tossed it int he bottom of our stroller and away we went. No issues at all. I can't say enough good things. 5Great product, so compact and lightweight. Perfect for travel with a 2 year old. Got this for my 2 year old son who is between 25-30 lb for an upcoming trip to Europe where high chairs aren't always available. I am so pleased I have found this! Lightweight and so much more compact than other (stable) portable booster seats that I have tried. Here's a quick comparison of products I've tried:First Years On-The Go Booster: My favorite choice for travel and portability! Fits easily into a stroller, very lightweight for the stability it offers. No tray. Offers about 4" of lift/boost, which is fine for a 2 year old, but may not be enough for children under 1 year. Cleanup isn't the easiest due to fabric construction - I can imagine spaghetti stains being hard to remove. Stows easily into many umbrella strollers.Chicco Pocket Snack Booster: Very stable and tray is useful for very little ones. Offers a lot of lift/boost. Very heavy and bulky for international travel. Hard to snap on tray. Barely stowed behind the seat of a Maclaren umbrella stroller.BenBat YummiGo Travel Booster Seat: Very stable and lightweight, however very bulky. Offers a lot of lift/boost. This is basically a large plastic clamshell box with a stiff fabric seat back and harness attached. Since we try to travel very light, this would take up a huge amount of rigid space within a carry-on suitcase, even if I filled the inside with other items. Packing is so inflexible with this that I have never brought it on a trip.Summer Infant Pop and Sit Portable Booster, Green/Grey: Doesn't offer much boost due to sag of the fabric seat. Tray doesn't slide close to child's belly, leaving a gap for food to fall into their laps. Kindof heavy, moderately compact. Very difficult to clean fabric. One of my least favorite designs. I misplaced it and don't even care! 5
