Customer Reviews

Best, by far.Do you know the sound of professional barber scissors.....or that pair of scissors that your seamstress wife won't let you touch for fear of you cutting something as coarse as....paper ??? Well, these shears sound like barber scissors....WOW.... They are frighteningly sharp, AND they are apparently engineered to be super efficient and user friendly. For the record, besides trimming the Forsythias, Japonicas, and Crepe Myrtles, we use these 2X a day to chop about 30-40 lbs of Alfalfa Hay into smaller 4" pieces to feed our milk cows and their calves. Day in, day out...they make a chore far easier and the results are far better than we have had with lesser shears. They cut equally well from the tip to the bottom of the cutters."5 Star performance ...... My son has broken 2 cheaper shears in a year. I'm sure these will last. Their quality is obvious. "You cannot go wrong with these shears !!! 5Product broken just a little over a month after purchaseHandle broke after a little more than a month of use. Purchased July 26th. Return window closed August 26th. Product broke Sept. 5th with only minimum to moderate use. 1Hedge base weeds/ grassesI bought these shears based on reviews.I bought them to cut the grasses and weeds that grow around the base of my hedges where a weedwacker isn't practical. And indeed, they 'shear' them like a knife thru butter. The blades seem of high quality and work well together. They do what I wanted them to do, and do it well. 5Great shears from a company that cares about satisfied customers. The use of aluminum means these shears are light weight in poundage, but not in cutting ability. The shears are easy to lift for trimming bushes like camellias since they don't weigh much. The blades are sharp. The follow up, via e-mail from Tabor Tools, to make sure you're a satisfied customer is exceptional. Tabor Tools provided a guide for best times to prune, as well as how to keep the shears sharp and maintained for years. These guides are greatly appreciated. 5Good reliable tool - terrific valueTwo things:(1) This tool does everything I expect of a quality hedge shear and my standards are high. I've been using True Friends (FRUEND-VICTORIA Gartengerate GmbH) at four times the price for thirty plus years but I think I've found a new favorite.(2) Most of the criticisms I noted in reading reviews were in the nature of expecting this tool to do another tools job. It's a hedge shear, it doesn't do many of the things people complained of because it's not supposed to do those things. I wouldn't set out scalpels to my guests at a BBQ even though they are knives designed to cut meat. Steak knives are the appropriate choice. Clippers/shears are for leaves and twigs. Pruners and loppers are for branches. 5Where have you been all my life?If you have serious hedges to clip, buy these. I've been clipping hedges for years with assorted manual and electric clippers. On very soft-wood hedges. anything will work. On most hedges modest-priced electric clippers, at best, leave rough cuts not good for the hedges' health. Most manual clippers do a better job but are a lot of work. These clippers almost make hedge clipping fun. I never knew hedge clippers could be this good. They clip through anything but thick limbs precisely and easily. They'd be wonderful even without the extendable handles, but those save me an armful of scratches on my sharp-leaved hedges. Paying a little more doesn't always provide better quality, but in this case it's a super bargain.. 5Keep some mineral spirits handy - you're gonna need it.What you have here is essentially a large pair of quality scissors, for fine finish work on the very outer portion of shrubs. I use them to touch up ("just a little off the top") ivy and boxwoods, etc., and leave heavier, more intense, coarser work to other shears. I went for these as opposed to much more expensive Japanese shears, and that was the right choice for me given the size of my property and what I deal with as a homeowner. These shears are very quiet and go "chip-chip" rather than "chop-chop" when cutting - again, like a pair of barber's scissors when cutting hair. What drives me crazy about them is that the blades, because of their nature (geometry, type of metal, orientation, precision...whatever) are very prone to gum up with sap - even when doing just light work as mentioned. This occurs within about five minutes and makes the handles difficult to open because of the sticking of the blades. A light coat of machine oil beforehand does practically nothing to alleviate the problem. If you buy these, plan on having a dedicated container of mineral spirits nearby to dip the blades in...*often*...and a rag to wipe them clean, or just a rag soaked with mineral spirits to do that. ...And be prepared to smell mineral spirits. If dealing with the aforementioned problem doesn't bug you, then go for it, because everything else about these shears is quality. 4Shrub Eating MonsterComputer designed blades that make a joke out of shrubbery, with ergo-extended handles for when it comes to the really tough stuff? These are shrub eating monsters that cut through thickets like a hot knife through butter, as they give you back time lost by the use of inferior shears. I know because now that I have used these Tabor shears, when compared to my older, hardware pair, there simply is no way to sum them up, except to say it's like comparing a surgeon's scalpel to a dull pocket knife. The only time I extend the handles all the way out is when I come across a limb. Otherwise, I only extend them as far as needed to get the job done. It's simply faster this way. These Tabor shears are a quality tool that no shed should be without. As for my older, hardware pair? At best they could be described as a computer-generated compromise, where one size fits all. If you grasp them at the handle ends where they are marked for holding, it takes longer to get the job done: simply because it takes longer to travel further. When you add this up, when compared to a handle that you can hold at the ends because they're throw is adjustable, you get that time back in spades. These shears allow you to maximize your effort according to the toughness of the shrubbery you're attacking. And that's all that needs be said about that. So glad I bought them. 5Extremely sharp blades with extremely light aluminum 30" reach, very efficientSo sharp they cut off the stalk of some soft plants as I moved the blade into position to snip but accidentally dragged one side of blade across plant at targeted cut side. Was a little concerned about discomfort of "fulcrum" effect due to weight of handles at 30" length. But I purchased the aluminum handles for the extra $2 or so in price vs metal. The entire tool is light as a feather but is very sturdy with no flexing along the length of the handle. Rubber snubbers on inside of each handle make each snip non-jarring and snips also take little exertion of force; blades are so sharp they slice through with little effort. The blades only are metal. Could do a lot of trimming with no fatigue from weight or length of handles. The additional reach is very effective at allowing user to maintain straight back posture without fatigue of leaning forward to make snips. I wouldn't get the shorter handled tool unless you have ONLY very small plants AND they are waist height, as in a planter. I only used for a short outing first time but I remarked to my neighbor that it performed better than any other hand trimmer I have ever owned. Not made for large diameter branches. It feels like surgical quality as the blades make a quiet "zip" sound on each snip. It clean cuts even dainty leaves that my other manual hedge clipper would just shred between the blades without actually cutting the leaf. I am going to take good care of this blade by cleaning and lightly oiling after each use. Thank you Tabor! 5The product photo is not accurate in that the blades are narrower tan depicted which is good as the picture makes the shears looI have used these shears for about 15 minutes today after receiving them on time. The product photo is not accurate in that the blades are narrower tan depicted which is good as the picture makes the shears look bulky and difficult to handle, which they were not. The blades come in a plastic sheath which will protect them. The blades also have several curves along the cutting edge which I was glad to see because that helps in cutting larger branches. The handles did not accidentally extend as one reviewer wrote and seem sufficiently locked in place unless you turn them with moderate force. The shears seem solid and I have confidence that if I apply a lot of force to cutting a branch, they will not break as have happened to one pair in the past. Lastly, a couple of days after buying the shears, I received an email from the company thanking me and sent me an article about shearing and asking for feedback. That attentiveness by the company suggests to me that if I had trouble with this product that they would be responsive. So far, I am very pleased. 5
