Customer Reviews

Wonderful pencils!Wonderful pencils. I've essentially run out of pens to try. As someone with RA, it's difficult to find a writing instrument that doesn't result in hand pain at the end of the long workday. These are fabulous. I'm a "presser," meaning, I press really hard when writing. The tip doesn't break off, which is fantastic. The look is also great. Simple black with silver lettering. I love these! 5Poor man's BlackwingI really like these pencils. I was looking for some pencils that didn't have any grit in the lead, went down smoothly, and didn't break the bank. My whole family steals them from me. I use them for sketching and design drawing. What I like about them is that they're so smooth and relatively cheap. I get them at my local office store (found them cheaper there after I bought the first batch here) and I don't feel bad burning through them. I just can't afford the Blackwings at $2 a pop, and even when I get one in my hands, I find I'm being too thrifty with the lead. I need something that writes really nicely but doesn't make me feel like I need to conserve lead. That would be too stifling. If you're looking for a really good HB / #2 pencil that you can buy by the bucketload AND will love using, this is it, I'd say. You'll have your own preference for hardness and blackness, but it isn't a professional drafting pencil - it's a #2, for crying out loud, and that's why I love it. It's a softer #2, so if you're expecting a "school" pencil you may want your sharpener handy. It sharpens to a point well but will wear down quickly. Some complain about this, but others will like it. For my purposes, I like it soft and sketchy, and I'm used to sharpening often. If you're wondering, I'd say just get a box and try it out. It's not a big investment and if you can't find a use for them, someone around you most certainly will.I got several different pencils to try them all out. These are the only ones I keep buying. 5My Go-To PencilsThese are the reason I bought pencil extenders. I like them so much that I can't bear to retire one.Good core, nice wood, they sharpen well and they feel good in your hand. I have very expensive pencils and some cheaper pencils. These are my go-to pencils. 5Yes to these don't bother with those constant breaking unsharpen-ables anymore.Very high quality since my old favorites Ticonderoga apparently stopped caring about quality and the black ones just kept breaking when i sharpened them i moved to the next name i trust from the best erasers ive ever used the Staedtler since i was a kid in school the erasers always were better than any other and I didn't realize they made pencils -duh - i know but I didn't so when I saw the listing it was a no brainer.. Thank you for literally being highest quality pencil out there even better than before Ticonderoga went to..... you know . I do hope they sell soft black to because that type is my favorite but for now this hard black is all my son will be seeing hes 4 so .. its a long relationship ive committed to with these #2's I hope it stays a happy one. Ps.. the erasers on this are the great quality ones you expect.. but i read some reviews saying they might pop off.. no problems yet here and i make a ton of mistakes writing.. and sketching equals constant erasing. Have a lovely day. 5A fine quality pencil!OK, so I'm a pencil aficionado and I buy a lot of pencils. Most of them receive high ratings because I research a lot before I buy. These are no different. From viewing pencil forums I learned that in some countries these are sold as everyday pencils and in others they are considered a higher end pencil. While the wood is not cedar (basswood maybe) it is a smooth sharpening wood that doesn't splinter or crack at all. Beautifully finished in matte black and silver imprint. This pencil produces a smooth dark line with no "scratch" at all. I'll be buying more when I run out! 5Staedler Black Graphite quality - need I say more?OK, when I was a kid in the 60s and 70s, USA made #2 Ticonderoga pencils with built-in erasers were the best. Unfortunately, not so much nowadays. While some other brands still have true #2 dark graphite centers, the wood surrounding them cuts very poorly when sharpening your pencil (even when using an electric sharpener). The solution? Staedler Norica #2 HB Woodcased Pencils Black. The graphite is dark, the pencils sharpen cleanly and consistently each time. The pencils are also high quality. If I have any other observations, they would be that the pencil barrel diameter is slightly narrower than I'd like as a person with larger hands. The pencils do get consumed if you are a heavy user but that why I buy them in a 36 pack, right? They are not too expensive versus much cheaper quality less expensive other option, so buy these Staedlers. My son goes through about 20 of the 36 pencils in this pack each year of college so its a good buy. Recommended! 5great product!I never write reviews but I realized that I do 99.9% of my shopping online and 99.5% of my online ison Amazon and 100% of my decision is based on customer feedback ... so I'm changing my ways!I have a child that has hyper hearing. We have purchased several brands of pencils but the scratchingnoise of pencil on paper bothers him. These are wonderful!! The best pencils we've ever used andthey are now a standard in our household. Who knew there could be so much difference in a pencil? 5Great Everyday Writing PencilsI am mostly a mechanical pencil / pen man myself but I bought these (along with a ton of Dixon Ticonderoga's) for my son's classroom and decided to hold a few back to test them out. The difference between these and Ticonderoga's, as you might expect from the price differential, is night and day but these also hold up surprisingly well against the high-quality leads (Uni Kuru Toga HB) I use in my mechanical pencils as well. They are very smooth, the lead is dark, and they are easy to sharpen with no splintering in the wood. I have found myself using them more and more to maintain my daily task list because they are really a joy to use and something about holding a wooden pencil is refreshing after using mechanical pencils for so long. The black body with metallic silver accents is quite handsome if you care about such things. If you are looking for a cheaper option for a classroom where students will be losing / breaking / otherwise destroying pencils, the Ticonderoga's are a fine, more affordable option. If you are looking for something with a bit more class and a superior writing experience, give these a try. You won't be disappointed. 5Beware the Grey Blob!Writes well, good HB hardness Makes a good dark line. However, the other end of the pencil is the problem. The hard white erasers just smear what you are trying to erase and makes a grey blob that is impossible to get off the paper with a separate square eraser. I like the hexagon shape-they don't roll. But I am tired of having to keep a separate eraser nearby, and tired of going Du-Oh! when I forget and erase using the one on the pencil, and end up with the grey blob. The Mirrado Black Warrior pencils are better even though they are round and roll. 2I thought General's pencils would write better since it's more expensive on a per pencil basisThis pencil produces smooth, dark lines. I don't have to sharpen it often despite having a "creamy" sort of lead. The woodcase isn't made of cedar, and doesn't sharpen all that neatly - this is just a problem exclusive with the wood, the lead doesn't break during sharpening. I thought General's pencils would write better since it's more expensive on a per pencil basis, but I keep going back to Staedtler Noricas because it produces dark lines and the writing experience is smooth with no feedback of any kind. The erasers on the Noricas I got are pretty dry though and don't erase well, but I don't use erasers often so I didn't dock off any points for that. 5
