Customer Reviews

Great Value, Makes Great Coffee5 stars is for overall value. The whole coffee press is made of stainless steel and it is well constructed, not perfect, but very good. Finish around handle weld has a tiny bit of tarnish, that is the only thing that could be improved. Some reviewers questioned if was a good idea to have the stainless steel filter mesh in direct contact with the inside of the press, because it rubs steel on steel. A more expensive brand, Bodum, uses a plastic ring around the plunger, but I find the plunger on the Secura press easier to operate, especially if you wait three or four minutes before you push down the plunger like you are supposed to in order to allow the coffee to brew. I also prefer everything being stainless since I don't trust plastic to not leach chemicals when exposed to boiling water. Another point is that I recently had to replace the plastic plunger on our Bodum coffee press because the filter failed where it joined the plastic. Given the construction of the Secura press, I am not anticipating this being a problem. This coffee press arrived on time, exactly as described, and it makes great coffee. 5This may be the last French press you'll ever buy!My husband and I switched to a French press several years ago for flavor and consistency. We've broken two glass decanters and the last press we had was flimsy and the screen kept popping off. This was an investment for us, and I was nervous about using a stainless steel press. I was concerned about flavor and I didn't know how I'd feel about the screens scraping the sides of the decanter. From the very first use this has been a superior piece of equipment. It's sturdy, the taste is no different than other pressed we've used, and the screens glide down the sides of the decanter. Five months in and I love it. This may be the last French Press we will ever buy. 5Excellent Customer Service, Excellent ProductI bought this 2 years ago, and used it pretty much every day and it makes great coffee. I had to order replacement filters, and the Secura replacement filters for this French Press did not fit. I emailed the seller, and within hours they emailed back saying they redesigned the French Press slightly since I bought it so the new filters would not fit the old press, and to rectify the situation, they were sending me a brand new French Press free of charge. I received the new French Press 2 days later and it works just as well as the old one. Excellent customer service to say the least 5*** Updated Review*** Beware of parts breaking off.Soon after writing a review Secura customer service reached out to me and offered to replace my broken french press. I was not expecting a replacement and was surprised and very pleased with their prompt customer service. Their customer service and willingness to replace the product made up for the faulty piece. As far as the product itself. We really like it and it keeps our coffee warm for a good amount of time. Thank you Secura for replacing the french press, it's appreciated.I purchased this French press Feb. 4th due to the ratings, however on April 30th the little stopper that holds the filter in place for plunging broke off rendering the French press unusable. For the price point and the reviews you would think it would last at least a year. I can t find a replacement for the part online... I ve provided a photo of my faulty press with a close up of the stock photo for comparison. 5Awesome french press for familyI got this french press after my coffee machine broke. And I love it! The quality of coffee it makes is much more rich than the drip type coffee machine! I run adult art classes on Saturdays and I sometimes offer my students coffee or tea and all of them have been pretty impressed by what I made using this press! The size is perfect for about 5 people if they add milk in their coffee, 12oz cup, 4 if they don't want milk. It is made with solid thick brush finished stainless steel and very well insulated. It does keep your coffee hot/warm until finished. The quality of this french press exceeds my expectations. It also comes with two extra bonus metal mess. Very glad that I got this!! Highly recommend for family use because the size! 5The saga of finding the perfect coffee maker . . .Been using my new coffee makers for a few weeks and I am very pleased with them. Yum, there's nothing like a good cup of coffee. My eight year old Cuisinart automatic drip with thermal carafe was failing so I started researching auto drip coffee makers. My old machine was the Cuisinart that had a built in coffee grinder however I had given up grinding the beans with the machine after a few months of using it because for some reason I'd find the brewed coffee had overflowed all over the counter, cabinets and floor and I'd have a huge mess to clean up. It had something to do with the grinder and didn't happen every time but I dreaded it so when I stopped using the grinder it never overflowed again. While checking the reviews for every auto drip with thermal carafe I could find, that was the first thing I looked for and sure enough many people complained about this happening to them due to some stupid design flaw. It seems most of them had this problem so they were eliminated from consideration. That pretty much left one Zojirushi machine but it's expensive and it had other problems that made me hesitate. So I kept looking. It took weeks and I figured if my Cuisinart stopped working I'd just live with instant because I couldn't make up my mind. It was so frustrating.I looked into presses too but it was so hard to decide due to the problems people pointed out in the reviews. I finally decided against a glass press because somebody said theirs exploded while pressing down on the plunger giving them third degree burns. Even the remotest possibility of this happening to me was enough to say nope. So based on the 1500 ml size and the great reviews I finally decided on this press. Just in case, I also bought a 10 cup Melitta manual drip coffee maker thinking that I might not like something about the press like the cleaning of it or whatever.I love the coffee press! I finally have the recipe and technique down and it makes delicious coffee. I got rid of my old Cuisinart grinder and bought the Cuisinart burr grinder. I set it for the largest grind and dump it on a piece of wax paper. When the water boils I immediately pour it into the empty pot and let it sit there for a minute to heat up the pot. I pour the water back into the electric kettle and test the water temp. Doing that cools the water to about 200 degrees. I pour the ground coffee into the pot, start the timer for five minutes, pour in the water, wait 30 to 45 seconds and stir it. Then finish steeping and plunge. I immediately pour the cups and put the rest of the coffee in a vacuum carafe. It's fast and easy to make. As far as the clean up it's not as daunting as I thought it would be. I don't like to waste water so I heat up some in the microwave. Meanwhile I rinse the plunger mechanism under the faucet to get off as many grounds as possible. I take it apart and put the pieces in a small bowl in the sink. The long plunger/lid piece is rinsed and dried. I dump the grounds out of the pot into the trash and wipe the rest out with a paper towel. I pour the hot water into the bowl and the pot and add dish liquid. After washing I rinse and dry all the components and set the plunger pieces on the windowsill to dry more thoroughly. I haven't timed it but I would say the whole clean up process takes about five or six minutes. As for the Melitta, it makes great coffee too. I set the grinder in the middle between fine and medium. I've found the actual coffee making process to be more time consuming than the press because you have to be standing there pouring the water into the filter and it takes about ten minutes. I tend to get distracted if I walk away to do something else and can forget to come back to pour more water in. On the other hand however, the cleanup is much easier. The cone and lid go in the dishwasher and I simply wash and dry the pot by hand. I like that my hand fits inside to clean it. I also like that the lid comes apart for thorough cleaning. That is something that always bugged me about the Cuisinart, the thought of all that crud building up inside the lid is gross. I even called them once to complain about that. I'm so glad to be rid of it.In conclusion, the press is faster and easier to make coffee but more time consuming to clean up. The Melitta manual drip is more time consuming to make the coffee but a snap to clean up. Also, the Melitta makes a little bit more coffee than the press. Each method is worth the time and effort for the great coffee they produce. Additionally, both units were very inexpensive and they should last for years without any disgusting muck building up inside that's impossible to clean. 5Nice !!Very sturdy all stainless steel construction. I use double screens on mine(included in the box) and am happy with the filtering, I've compared it to two other presses I have (smaller sizes) and it very comparable. It can bubble up when pressing sometimes, but this is because the coffee floats to the top and forms a layer, so when you try to press it, it can't go through the screen, just give it a gentle stir before pressing and the problem is gone. The coffee stays hot for a long time, you just have to remember to turn the top after pouring, it has a pouring position and a closed position, it you leave it open it will naturally cool off faster, otherwise it is a double walled construction and holds the temperature well. 5Very nice finish and seems good quality.Very nice quality and finish and the extra screens are appreciated, I especially like that the edges of the screens are folded back so no fraying will occur, and the screens will last longer as well they seem to scrape nice and quiet when pressing the grounds. Metal on metal is not a pleasant sound and it is minimized with this press. The only quibble is that these do not seem to be true vacuum sealed as the outside gets warm fairly quickly, a true vacuum sealed vessel would keep the contents warmer longer as the heat couldn't migrate across to the outside layers if a true vacuum existed between the layers. 4You probably should buy this oneThis is a NICE French press. Attractive polished stainless steel, and a 50-oz capacity (that's 10 5-oz cups in the coffee maker's Lilliputian world). I've made several pots so far, and they were delicious. Very little residue ... if you use a coarse grind. The stainless is high-quality, and will keep the coffee warm longer than glass. Some feel that coffee left in a French press will gradually become more bitter because the grounds are there, but I haven't noticed a problem with that. The press is tight and seems to keep the pressed grounds isolated from the remaining coffee. This press is also very quick and easy to clean. That, plus no paper filter makes it my easiest pot of coffee in the morning. I've used an automatic drip for years, but the coffee's been just average. And the internal workings of the automatic eventually get a little groaty ... even with periodic maintenance. I also own and occasionally still use a 50-oz Chemex, mostly for those who want to filter their coffee to a fare thee well. Unfortunately, for my tastes, this process seems to remove some of the coffee flavor that I like, which the Secura does not remove. One more thing: no need to worry about replacement carafes due to glass breakage. This unit was priced below its value in my opinion ($35 when I purchased). Can't imagine you'll find a better press or price. 5This is a great french pressThis is a great french press. It does in fact keep the coffee warm but I still put the coffee in a thermos when finished brewing to keep it hot for longer. I got this press for the larger size because the one I was using was only 32 oz. I must admit I only get about 8 oz of coffee more but sometimes that is enough. The Secura says it contains 1500 ml but that is not exactly true because it does so only when filled up to the tip top and obviously you can't do that. The plunger is rather thick and you also have grounds that take up space so you really only get about 40 oz of actual coffee. This doesn't interfere with my enjoyment of the press however. I also love the fact that is made in the good old USA. That makes a substantial difference to me. I would definitely recommend getting this French Press. 5
