I'm a yard manager at a truck company and this clipboard holds all of the forms I need and keeps the weather out.Yes it's a metal box.Yes it will have the pointed edges endemic to a metal box.If you can't handle a metal box ( see 1 star reviews, then smack your head ) then don't get this.However, if you're a professional, reasonably capable adult who can handle the 'delicate intricacies' of a clipboard, get this. It really kicks ass. 5Absolutely no ! Comparison to a twenty-eight-year-old Sauder clipboardI have a Sauder brand clipboard that I've had my big truck since I started driving a truck 28 years ago. I included a picture of it to show you what kind of shape it's in. That thing is 28 years old. And then beat dropped out of the truck Etc. I guarantee you the one I just ordered won't last 28 days in this truck. It is the cheapest flimsiest! Poorest well-made thing I've ever purchased off of Amazon. Sauder has really stoop to a All Time Low to make this product. I literally could fold this thing in half with my fingers that's how thin the aluminum is. I will get my gauge out because I'm a welder and that's what this was for my welding shop and measure the gauge of the aluminum, but my guess is it's probably around 18 to 20 gauge aluminum and it's not quality the aluminum at that.I measured it and it's actually 24 gauge. 1paper thin, no roll form so edges are sharp, might last a week or one season at mostanother amazon product with like 450 folks reviewing and 4.5 stars. i really wonder sometimes about product reviews, this one a perfect example. so the metal is thin, really thin. almost wobbly thin. not sturdy nor would this take any assault to its frame. its as weak as anyone could mfg such a thing! seriously, its paper thin aluminium that can fold.... there is no ROLL FORM so all edges can be SHARP!!!! yeah, cut yourself using it before it folds into a paper ball.... who on g*d's green earth would give this anything but cheap rating star 1? sure for $20 it is what it is, but i couldnt use this on site or expect it to last a season. all those that give this thing such high reviews are either using a different product or dont have a use of a service field clipboard like we do. Oh, i just found out that my pen actually indents into the aluminum leaving a trace of my writing, this yet another reason i believe to avoid this product. to quote a friend, "you cant afford the cheap stuff"TLDR > super thin aluminum gives no confidence to sturdiness, no roll form edging means sharp edges everywhere, writing on a single sheet of paper will indent the surface. if they made this an Heavy Duty model adding $5+ in cost it would work excellent, its just it feels like potato chips... 1Poor, poor quality in comparison to what they use to make.This is a very light duty item. Saunders has obviously cut corners over the past few years. I remember buying a clipboard and citation holder from these guys and it lasted forever 10+ years ago. It was much, much tougher material and coated in a thick durable coating. The item I received today is extremely flimsy, very easy to scratch, very easy to cut yourself on, and overall seems like an absolute terrible piece of equiptment. Especially for those who may use this on a daily while on patrol. You'll probably be buying a new one every year with how terribly these things are now made. $30 bucks for this aluminium can is outrageous! 1Defective productHas worked really will until recently when the clip spring broke and it no longer holds my paperwork. I only had it 5 mon and it was never abused. I'd appreciate the manufacturer replacing it since its a defective product. 1Nice clipboardThis storage clipboard is pretty nice. It has a decent amount of storage space inside. And the clip is pretty strong. The aluminum is more sharp than I specifically prefer, It makes me a little worried to set it on my car seat in fear that it may rip the seat. I also am very careful carrying it for fear of it cutting me. Other than that its a nice clipboard. They must have felt very OFFENDED by this product and it's lack of value. So, they completely TOSSED the entire package out the window (boxes, product, etc.). I came home from work and discovered that my package was, indeed, missing. Drove around my neighborhood and found the discarded mess, a block from my house. Love the storage!I am very pleased with this product, it's the perfect size and the storage space is exactly what I needed. I already personalized mine with some custom vinyl decals :-) I was pleasantly surprised with the awesome pen slot under the front clip. Speaking of the clip, it's nice and stout/strong (another awesome surprise). I added a piece of decal vinyl folded in half over the center dip in the small storage slot inside the clipboard (pics included) and it's a great spot to store paperclips so they won't bounce all over the place when the board bounces around the work truck. I wish there was a small cover over that mini storage spot so it would hold pens clips etc in place. But I'm sure I can come up with a solution somehow. Oh and it's not magnetic. It's aluminum and you can't stick magnets to aluminum. (I though I saw a question about that somewhere) anyways, on the note of it being aluminum, it is a softer metal so I don't expect this thing to stay nice and straight for too long. The hinge is a little loose but there's a rod inside that holds it together so as long as that doesn't fail then this thing should hold together just fine. All in all I love it! Oh and the black colored one is more of a metallic black/charcoal color (I LOVE IT!). 5Love the shelf. Great industrial strengthHad a tough box for 7 years and the only reason I replaced It was the hinge wire broke. Glad I did because my search brought me to this one which has a shelf inside that I never thought I needed but since I started using It I ve found multiple reasons for why it s there. Great for daily use in the field and can take a beating. I ve dropped this a few times. I also like how It opens from the top, I find this helps with the times my old one would open unexpectedly while taking It out of my briefcase spilling its contents. Would buy again (hopefully I won t have to for at least another 7 years) 5Great product for lefties!I am a mechanical engineering student at a large state university and many of my classes are held in 300+ seat lecture halls. The few seats with left-handed desks are often in poor locations or are all taken by the time I get there. This device allows me to comfortable write and take notes at any seat, even if there is no desk attached to it.This clip board also allows me to keep all the items I need on a day to day basis in one convenient location, and prevents the need to carry them in a backpack. Also, the clip board can double as a miniature drafting table as drawing sketches and free body diagrams is often required in my coursework. 10/10 would recommend to any left-handed person tired of writing in awkward positions! 5
