Customer Reviews

This is the one!Want a reliable mattress protector? Look no further. My son is prone to nose bleeds, so it was only a matter of time before we'd get to really test this protector. This is our second time purchasing this brand. We've had our other protector (not a full encasement) for about 2 years, and my husband has yet to leave his signature sweat mark on our mattress. It looks and smells new. Now we have the full encasement protector for our son, and I won't buy anything else. Yes there's a little extra material and yes it makes a rustling noise, but I don't care. I want protected mattresses. This does the job A+. Thanks for making a product I can trust. P.s I dry on no/low heat after a wash and have experienced no shrinkage or damages. 5Manufacturer needs to test the mattress encasement capabilities againThese are the reasons I purchased the product: Breathable membrane allows airflow while repelling liquids , Completely waterproof and noiseless , Great for asthma, eczema and allergy sufferers , 10 yr warranty . This mattress encasement lasted 6 months before I had to throw it out. It s not waterproof, it s mot hypoallergenic and when I tried to return it. I wasn t offered an immediate refund. $48.95 Out the window! Nice warranty. 1I'm Glad I Bought This!Perfect for preventing and/or battling a horrible scourge of bed bugs. If you don't want them, I would suggest getting this for your mattress. If you are currently battling them, you have my sympathy. We had a bout with the buggers when they hitched a ride back home with us after vacation (ugh!!!). We got rid of our infected box spring (even though we vacuumed & powdered it), disinfected and dusted our mattress and encased it, purchased a platform bedframe and either tossed or disinfected blankets, clothing, pillows, etc. This encasement is working great and we have been cootie free ever since! I would know, I am HIGHLY ALLERGIC and have been bite free. I bought an extra encasement should we decide to go back to having a box spring. I wish every hotel was required to have these encasements; it might cut down the resurgence of this pestilence... 5takes time to prep it right, but worth it.I ordered this mattress protector for my boyfreind who had a run-in with bedbugs a few years ago and is still a bit paranoid about it. He had just purchased a new queen sized pillow top mattress a couple months prior, and I figured this would be a good time to protect it and a chance to give him some extra peace of mind. To be clear, about the time this came in, we found what we think was a loner bedbug in or close to maturity, and I had gotten a few bites over the course of a week while staying there and sleeping on the new bed. Between these protectors (I bought one for the boxsprings and one for the mattress), a heat gun, and copious amounts of Diatemacious Earth (spelling? It's a fine dust of super small sharp particles that essentially cut into insects' joints and bodies, killing them), the bug was never seen again. I would highly recommend the dust to anyone fighting bugs, in conjunction with these covers.I would recommend opening the package and examining the seams - all of them, including the zipper - and look over the fabric for any defects. There were several reviews that complained about loose stitching or tears. These are made in huge factories on machines at a ridiculous pace - sometimes things get a little out of line at that kind of speed and scale, so it never hurts to check. Ours were both great. Also, some complained about the 'chemical' or 'plastic' smell. They are a bit strong, but running them through the washer and dryer first, as suggested on the package, takes care of that. We washed the two covers together, with nothing else. Initially, we left them zipped to avoid damage to the fine coil of the zipper, but in hindsight, I would say lust leave it unzipped all the way. When it came to the spin cycle, the closed zippers and the water resistance of the covers created giant flappy water balloons that kept throwing the washer out of balance. We unzipped them to release the water and it was all fine. They will take a ridiculous amount of time to dry. Just keep the heat low, be patient, and take them out to rearrange them in the dryer again to help them dry evenly. Some reviewers wrote about their covers melting or becoming brittle form drying - because they turned the heat too high. Just chill. You had to wait for the thing to ship to your house, waiting a couple hours with the dryer isn't gonna hurt you.We put them both on easily with two people, but with some patience and gracefullness, a single person may be able to do it. Having two people makes it easier to prevent tears in the cover after installing, while moving the mattress back into place.I gifted a protector for boxsprings and a mattress to my boyfriend for his new bed 4 months ago. He had a run in with bed bugs a few years that left him mildly traumatized. If you want a guaranteed rant, just ask him about it - On second thought, don't go there. We don't even go there. But, back to the covers....I read a lot of reviews - mostly great, and several pretty bad - before purchasing. We had no problems with either of our covers. Here's what we looked out for based on the negative reviews (and common sense):- Check all seams for rips, loose stitches, and the like, one seam at a time so you don't miss anything.- Check over the fabric...all of it...for any rips, snagged threads, holes, or the like. Do this right out of the package so you can use the crease linesto help track your progress.- Run your covers through the washer with a bit of soap to neutralize the 'chemical' smell. Unzip it all the way to prevent the formation of a giantflappy water balloon that with try to strangle the agitator as your washer jumps about like a wild rodeo bull (yep, this happened). Unzip it all the way to preventdamage from the zipper getting pulled open, in case the two sides try to go opposite directions.- CHECK THE HEAT SETTING ON YOUR DRYER - Turn it down so you don't risk melting any of the synthetic materials. If it feels like you'retaking a ridiculous amount of time to run it through and you're starting to feel like you're worrying too much, then YOU"RE DOING IT RIGHT!Take it out and fluff it and flip it around to help it dry evenly and (slightly) faster. I think we ran our covers through, like, 4 dryer cycles....- Have two people to help put it on. It goes fairly easy and quick with a bit of teamwork and a plan, and will help prevent potential snags or rips from tugging. We slipped the cover over one end and slid it into place, then zipped one side before laying it down. We than lifted the zipped side up so we could straighten out the bottom of the cover in order to zip up the other end. Laid it down once more to zip the last side, and put the mattress/boxspring in place.- Be careful with the zipper. Gently tug your fabric into place so that the two sides of the zipper are close to each other and aligned. The zipper is small and fine so it can create a good bug barrier... Be nice to it, and it should zip just fine. Ours did have a couple "sticky patches" where it didn't quite want to zip. Just gently tug and coax the zipper pull, or unzip a ways and try again. If frustrated, walk away. It's not worth potentially busting that zipper after all the time and money you've spent on it thus far.- If you already have bedbugs, understand that this cover is not some magical kryptonite that eradicates bugs by simply existing in the same room. It can only kill bugs trapped inside, on an already affected mattress by trapping them in there until they starve (about a year or something crazy). Diatemacious (sp?) Earth will kill any bug it comes in contact with. Try using this in conjunction with your covers. 5Flimsy, ripped when covering mattressI don t normally post reviews, but this was such a disappointment. I have a Queen sized bed, that s about 11 high. From the reviews I had read, this should have been a perfect fit. However, it was too small. When I went to put it on the bed immediately after I opened it, it ripped while I was putting it on - rendering it useless. So, I didn t even have a chance to use it, and now I m out $50. 1Defective zipperThe zipper track was faulty so the top of the zipper got jammed and created a tiny hole. If this were an article of clothing this wouldn t be a big deal but because any small defect allows bugs to get through, the product is now wholly ineffective. 1One StarSmells really strongly of chemicals. Bought another a few years back and didn t have this issue. Something s changed... 1****Garbage**** DON'T BUY THIS!!!!!!!!This came in a plastic as soon as I zipped it open and started taking it out I could smell a horrible disgusting chemical type smell! The plastic feels very flimsy like any pull or tug when you naturally toss and turn at night would rip it down on the edges and around the underside. Then the top part that supposed to be thick and soft is not it is thin it feels like a mix between cheap paper towels and a dishcloth put together. When I tried to un-zip the zipper to get it ready to wash, (as I couldn't use it before I washed it because it smells too disgusting and I wouldn't let my children sleep on something that smells like it came from a chemical plant!!) IT BROKE OFF!!!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE IIT BROKE OPENING IT UP!!! I would have given a negative amount of stars, of it would have let me! 1Good quality, worth it for the peace of mindWashed this before use and it came out looking exactly like new, so hopefully it will hold up long term. Fit perfectly, and while I wouldn't suggest fitting this as a one-person job, I was able to put it on my king mattress by myself in just a few minutes. The zipper has to be tiny to be bug proof but it is good quality and I was able to zip it up in one go with no catching. I was concerned about "crinkling" noises when I move around and "sleeping hot", but neither is an issue - I can't really feel any difference from when the mattress was bare.I never had any bed bug issues but as a contractor I'm often demolishing houses with who knows what kind of infestations and I'm always concerned about something hitching a ride on my clothes or in a tool bag and making its way into my home. Bedbugs and other critters hide out in other places besides beds, so I certainly have to take other measures to ensure against anything taking up residence at my house, but for about 50 bucks this adds a layer of peace of mind that helps sleep well at night. 5Adequate with additional diligence (read on for the final solution)I had a full-blown bedbug infestation (many dozens). I got my infestation through the walls from a neighboring apartment. So one can never truly be secure from a new infestation and needs to be constantly vigilant.First, it's important first to do a diligent primary elimination. There's a good guide at [...]. The bugs live in the walls, appliances -- everywhere -- for a long time so it's almost impossible to get rid of them all in one try. I had a small re-infestation (one-half dozen) after about 8 months.I first tried food grade diatomaceous earth and believe it probably works as claimed but the powder lingers in the air and choked me. I could always smell it in the air and always felt it in my sinuses so I discontinued it except to mist it into the walls through the electrical outlets and wall switches. This mattress cover (and the one for the box spring) do a good job of locking in any bugs or eggs that you might have missed from your primary elimination. However inconvenient for the bedbugs though, they will have no problem hiding elsewhere in your bedroom and home and simply crawl up onto your bed when they desire to feast on your blood. These covers also give the bedbugs fewer places to hide and breed on your bed itself when they later come out of their other hiding places. For my second infestation there were a few bugs actually hiding under the velcro flaps of these covers, the flaps that are intended to seal the gap at the very end of the zipper. With these covers on, that was their only hiding place on my bed itself so these covers are still worthwhile but are only a partial solution. After that second infestation, I decided to attack the problem with extreme prejudice. Following are the extra steps that one must take to remain bed bug free forever (you can thank me later):After the first elimination, one must be diligent to make sure that the bed never touches the walls, furniture and curtains (always leave a wide gap). Be certain that the bed sheets and bedspread never touch the ground (especially while you sleep). Never unpack luggage or moving boxes on top of the bed (better yet, unpack in the driveway and never place ANYTHING on your bed, period). Be wary of all new purchases, especially yard sale and thrift store purchases (wash everything immediately in the hottest water). With that done, the only way for the bugs to get to your bed (and your blood) is up the legs of the bed.MOST IMPORTANT STEP!Do a search for and purchase "Mouse Glue Boards." These are thin pieces of cardboard with strong glue on one side, strong enough to catch a mouse when it steps on it, so they will catch the bugs with ease. Cut down these glue boards to fit and tightly wrap the legs of your bed frame with them. Secure them with narrow strips of duct tape. (The glue doesn't stick well to itself and so needs the duct tape.) Leave adequate space between the strips of tape so that there is enough glue exposed to catch the bed bugs. These boards will finally eliminate them for good because they'll eventually need to feed and will try to make their way up from their other hiding places to the legs of the bed and get caught in the glue boards. Check the boards for bugs often. My bed's legs are cylindrical so the taping was easy. For other types of bed legs, you might have to do more creative duct taping. Finally, leave these glue boards on the legs of your bed always as the ultimate protection. 4
