Customer Reviews

Love rit dye!RIT dye works and I love it for so many projects! An extra tip though. So I have a smallish lidded storage container and that's what I do all of my dying in. I sometimes add salt or vinegar to help the fabric take and hold the dye better. BUT after I dye a few things by letting them sit either hours or a few days I take those out and add more. Here's what happens...my 1st batch will be black or pretty close depending on what I was putting in there. Then I let other fabrics set for a couple more days with the dye bath that's left and they turn out mostly gray.LASTLY I STILL KEEP THE DYE BATH and put more things in and what comes out is brown colors.I will sometimes keep using the same dye bath for nearly 2 weeks with letting fabrics sit and get many shades all out of this one packet of black dye. ;)----I do the same with other colors of dye as well, purple over time after the first batch winds up with pinks. Green dye after the first batch or two makes blues, sometimes a teal or turquoise! So don't just pitch it, keep using it for many shades and get the most bang for your buck!LASTLY I NEVER DO IT IN MY WASHING MACHINE anymore because I like having a more saturated dye bath and it works perfectly! 5Good effect for the priceIt's definitely more of a gray color but considering I accidentally turned the shirt pink in the wash, this was a huge improvement, and I'm really happy with it. It turned the bright red neckline a darker red and didn't affect the printed design on the other side very much. 5Did what it was supposed to doNote that you should use two packets if you want a dark dark green. I stirred mine for an hour and this is what it looked like. Super even, which is great, but not my favorite color. If I dye it again, I'll do it with two packets of green and one packet of blue. 4GREAT STUFF! Follow the instructions, becauseThere's alot more to dying with RIT than just dissolving it in water. There is vinegar, soap, and other stuff I can't remember -- it did a GREAT job on my clothes. Since it takes a while for ALL the excess dye to wash off I will wash these items in cold water, by themselves.Good price, lots of fun things to do with it as well.Oh RIT-- PLEASE print the instructions on a piece of fold-out paper, instead of on the inside of the box -- I had to stick the liiiddle box insert with the instructions on the Xerox machine and blow it up by about 129 percent so I could read it. 5Easy to use with great resultsI used the bucket dying method on a white 100% cotton dress I bought from a thrift store. It worked perfectly. No blotchy bits or anything to give away that this dress was ever anything but yellow. The key is to follow the instructions. You'll want to use a cup of salt and a little squirt of soap with your hot water, and make sure everything is completely dissolved before dying your fabric. Also prewet the fabric. The RIT website has very clear instructions with various methods of dying. I highly recommend RIT dye. 5Works! Real Black?Best way to dye.1. Wet or prewash your clothes2. Hot water, salt, vinegar, & dye (sit few mins before adding clothes) 5Great Price for a great producePlease note if you have a model washer with white plastic washing components, avoid this product! It will most likely stain the inside. Best to use a large bin to allow it to properly mix then soak. I found using vinegar as a washing compound helps with the upkeep. This should help make the color last longer. 5great for vehicles tooUsed this to dye the carpet and seats in a classic vehicle over 50 years old because it was faded and stained. Mixed one dye pack per spray bottle with hot water to apply. It was easy to use and permanent full coverage was achieved to the carpet in 1 round of applications and 2-3 rounds of applications to the seat fabric turned out brown at first so obviously it matters what type of material you're dying. It was easy to use and looks great. 5Perfect dye jobI used this navy dye to color a new navy t-shirt that I had ruined when bleach splashed on it. I followed the directions exactly for stove-top processing and used a whole package of dye. I cannot tell that the shirt was ever damaged. 5Perfect Results .. and EASY !!I purchased one package of Rit "Dark Green" dye to revive an pair of 10 year old cargo pants that had faded to a drab, lifeless gray ... I did not want the color to be too saturated, so I used only one package, and the end result could not have been better .. The pants looks like new, VERY even and smooth, and this is the exact dark olive green that I wanted .. The pics do not do justice to how good and refreshed these pants look in person .. I tried to get the pics to be a good representation of what this "Dark Green" looks like .. And please keep in mind, I used only one package .. I simply filled my washer with hot water, stopped the cycle, added the dye, stirred it with a wooden stick, then added the pants ( already wet with warm water ) and then finished the cycle .. PERFECTION 5
