Customer Reviews

A lot of good ideas, but there are some problems Overall very good design. Light, bright, convenient in many ways. It is great for work with light sensitive materials (with red filter). Easy to take apart almost completely and fix sometimes if the problem is not too complex (you just need to lift the battery compartment using flat screwdriver). I work with these headlamps a lot. I tried similar, but different headlamps (including Petzl TacTikka 3-LED). These are the best (I mean Princeton). However they have some serious issues. First of all the quality is not so good. They are not reliable and fail quite often. I went probably through 8 of these. Some still work, but about half failed. (Really not all that tactical, as someone said here) It seems that one of the problems is the lost of contact between the electronic board and the battery compartment. They are not soldered, but just attached to each other. As a result, sometimes a pin on the battery compartment may shift and loose contact with the board. If Princeton had fixed the problem with the quality, this would be the perfect headlamp. It would be also great to see the optional model with three AA batteries instead of AAA. 3Not what was described What was promised "... 3 interchangeable lens covers to change the light color to Red, Blue, or Green" is not what was delivered.Held off on writing a review and reached out to seller but no response. Decent headlamp and did come with the red filter installed but the other lenses were not included. Not worth the hassle of a return but you may want to take this into consideration when making a purchase decision. 2You can't find a better Tactical Headlamp When turned on the beam is automatically on the low setting. With the use of the red filter, you instantly have the best low-level light for reading or close work without unnecessarily giving your position away to unwanted observers. For brighter light simply click the button. For white light, just slide the filter away. Couldn't be easier! 5Good Tactical Light For Hands Free Work I have the bigger Princeton that has the big battery pack in the back also and I love it but sometimes its just overkill and a tad heavy. This is very light weight and good for most things. When outdoors you most likely would want to use the highest setting to light a path. I thought the red lens would be more useful but havent foiund a great need. You cant use it to light a path so it would be more for reading and adjusting equipment relatively close up within a few feet. Has a very long run time and like all Princetons it is water proof so you can drop it in the creek or lake and it will still keep working. Its sometimes hard to tell which side is up on it when you put it on, as both look almost the same. Its great having your hands free to do whatever. My kids still give me crap about the geekiness of it though. Hmm I wonder if I got them one if they would see the light :)UPDATE 7-9-2013 Still going strong and use it all the time. 4Excellent Headlamp For An Excellent Price For a low priced headlamp, this is a great product. Admittedly I don't have much experience with other headlamps, but this one makes me feel like I won't need to.What you get: This headlamp ships with the headlamp itself, and a set of three lenses (Red, Green, Blue), that you can use to change the color of the light emitted.Setting it up: The Princeton Tec Quad LED Headlamp is pretty easy to set up; to install the batteries you only have to remove one screw, which you can do without the need for a screwdriver, and then insert the batteries (it takes 3 AAA batteries). Switching out the lenses is a little bit trickier, and I can't remember whether there were any kind of instructions telling you how to. That being said, it's still easy to do. Simply pry up on the little tabs which can be found on either side of the power switch (I use the tip of a knife), and swing the cover forward. You can insert whichever of the lenses you want, and then close the cover until you hear the snaps of the tabs locking back into place.Use: The headlamp has three brightness levels and a strobe function. You press once for the lowest setting, and then press once for each brightness setting increase. If you press again after reaching the brightest setting, the headlamp begins strobing. To use whichever optional lens you inserted, all you have to do is slide it up over the white LED bulbs, and when you don't want the colored light anymore, you can just slide it back down. The headlamp also tilts forward and has quite a few different degrees of tilt that you can choose from. In my experience with it, the Princeton Tec hasn't once flopped forward on me, even after several high impact landings. It stays firmly in place, no matter what angle you've got it tilted at. The headband it comes with is a very comfortable neoprene/elastic feeling band. I've worn it with and without a hat so far and haven't had a problem with it being too big or too small (I've got a pretty big head). The white light is pretty far reaching (I'd say about 50 feet, which I consider to be far reaching anyway), and bright. The lenses take a little time to adjust to since they dim the light down, but they'll help you find your way while preserving your night vision capabilities.Con: There is one con to this headlamp, and it has to do with storing your extra lenses. The package includes a little clip that you can attach to the headband, and I've found it pretty useful for storing one of the extra lenses. I'm assuming that's what it's for, since I can't find any other purpose for it. The downside is that it only holds one. So if for some reason I need to use all of my lenses in one night, I'll be able to quickly switch out for one, but if for some strange reason I find myself needing the third, I'll have to go digging in a pocket or backpack for the tiny baggy holding the tinier lens. This isn't a big problem at all, since I don't foresee needing a red, green, and blue lens all in one night, but it just makes more sense to have them all in one place. It's not enough to knock off a star, just a mild nuisance. In summary, this headlamp is a great investment for anyone who might want to go on night hikes, play airsoft at night, or really do anything in the dark. It's definitely a more convenient alternative to a flashlight so that you can keep your hands free and still have light. It's comfortable, versatile, and very easy to use. I could open it up and install new batteries with gloves on and no screwdriver, which is a plus. Definitely would recommend, especially since it's list price is so low. 5Does what it says This is a pretty cool light that's useful for anything from night hiking, tent lighting, under-the-sink plumbing repairs, reading in bed or on a plane, or creeping around a dark bedroom so you don't wake your wife (using the red lense). What I didn't like about it was that the colored lenses are stored separately and easy to lose and only sort of easy to change. 4Comfortable, easy to use, good lighting Sliding red screen over the lights (with blue and black(?) included options) stays in place and is easy to use. Click the power button once and the light turns on; double-click and it brightens, repeat for brighter and then strobe mode. Single-click to turn off. This makes it extremely convenient to turn the light on and off without having to cycle through all the brightness settings. Sneaky!Just bright enough to lead you through a night time trail run, although you wouldn't want a whole group relying on one light. Haven't used this on a bike just yet, so I don't know if the light range would be adequate to ride at night. Great for a reading light as well. Also, this is adjustable and fits around your shoulder if you don't like wearing it on your forehead but still need forward light. Haven't tested the battery life, but it shouldn't drain too quickly. Overall a good product as advertised. 5Best headlamp I've used yet I've been a fan of Princeton Tec's head lamps for a while, and this model is a great improvement on what was already a good line.It withstands the rain, it fits comfortably on your head, and it has a good range of intensities. By pressing the button multiple times, you can increase the intensity or select a flashing beacon mode. The red filter is a great addition for keeping your night vision. And speaking of night vision, one nice change from their previous models is the intensities start from the dimmest and get brighter with each press, not the other way around as before. This helps keep you from getting a bright flash in your face (or your partners) whenever you turn on the lamp. You can feel there's quality construction on the unit. They'll be in my packs for a long time. 5Great for Night Photography Great for night photography to allow one to make camera adjustments without the use of a white light beam of typical headlamps or flashlights thus causing one to loose their night vision for a while. The red light allows one to make adjustments, turn it off, and go about one's duties photographing at night and still be able to see. It has the ability to slide the red lens out of the way to provide white light if that becomes necessary. 5Good Headlamp Great headlamp and has survived the test of time and multiple field training exercises. Love that you don t have to worry about turning on the white lense on accident since all you have to do is keep the Red lense flipped up. Has three different brightness levels and you can change the red lense to blue or green or just lower the lense for the white light. Reason for 4 star review is the Red lense is rather dim compared to other headlamps 4
