A Pen-o-Holic's Perspective: Wish I Loved It MoreDepending on the pen's intended purpose--writing general notes and memos, quick sketching, inking final art projects, addressing mail, or lettering invitations, etc.--satisfaction can vary widely. So, I'll look at this pen from various angles: comfort, ink quality, longevity, and nib sizing.COMFORT:The girth is similar to that of your standard BIC stick pen, but is smooth (i.e. no ridges, notches, latex, etc.) and there is a good distance from the grip to the nib. I personally didn't enjoy writing with this pen for extended periods because it was difficult to find a comfortable writing position, however, jotting quick notes and such was fine.INK QUALITY:This pen lays down a buttery smooth deep black line. That said, it's unforgiving on generic/cheap office or notebook paper, and won't hesitate to cop an attitude when it comes to finer writing papers (such as Rhodia vellum, which is designed for use with fountain pens). By that I mean this ink feathers and bleeds.On the cheap papers it bleeds like a hemophiliac, whereas on the premium papers it bleeds only as if it just scraped its knee (trickles and dots here and there). Plus, on the premium quality papers, it will require a few seconds to dry. That means lefties need to be careful.And finally, while I would use this to sign checks or important documents, I wouldn't do so with the utmost confidence considering that it feathers with both water and alcohol (see comment for link to a writing sample image).LONGEVITY:This is a checkmark in its favour because this pen will last a while. For a liquid ink pen, I assumed it would be dead in under 20 pages, but was pleasantly surprised you can get 30-40 pages from a single barrel. (Writing top to bottom on college ruled paper.)Also, I watched closely for any leaks, and was glad to note there were none.NIB SIZING:This pen, although it's a 0.5mm rolling ball, creates a huge line. In fact, the line it creates is larger than the 0.7mm Pilot B2P pen. Granted, I'm sure some of the added line width is due to its feathering on the paper, but I'd hardly label this pen "precise". For that, I'd award the honour to either the Hi-Tec-C line, Pentel Slicci, or the Uni-ball Signo lines of pens. (See comment for link to an image for line size comparison with various pens.)Finally, while this is a needle point nib, it's actually a strong one. Unless you're planning to drill this pen into the paper while writing, it can hold up to some heavy pressure without breaking or warping.Overall, this is a good pen. Not necessarily a *great* one in my book, but for creating memos, taking quick notes, and general purpose writing, this will most certainly do.3perfect for purple pen peopleI'm a purple pen person so I'm always on the lookout for the perfect purple pen. This one writes smoothly with a lovely fine point that glides over your paper. The shade is more subltle than some purple pens, which I like. It has a slight bluish tint - definitely purple, but not in your face like some purples are. I'd love to see it in a retractable, but other than that it's perfect!And for those of you who think purple pens are too juvenile, I'm 60 and will only write in blue or black if legally obligated to do so. Life is too short for such nonsense.5Pen for BallersTHESE ARE MY FAVORITE PENS. Alright so I have used sharpie pens for a while and some uniball pens, but then I tried these bad boys out because I was feeling like I wanted something that gave a finer point. The sharpies are nice, but the issue i have with them was that they didn't flow as smooth as these bad boys. When I bust these out during class for notes the teacher knows I am not messing around. I swear when he walked by during a lecture he looked down at my notes, leaned into my ear, and whispered, "Nicceeeee pen."5GREAT COLORS!!!I love all the colors! I love extra fine ballpoint pens in many many colors. These definitely fit that description. The problem I find with Pilot pens is that they die out WAY before the ink is done. It could see have 3/4 of the ink and be 'dead'. How is that possible?PROS:+ Excellent colors!+ Writes well+ Extra fine+ Has clear cutout box where the ink is to determine how much is left+ Great for notetaking!+ Great for labeling+ Bright colors+ FunCONS:- it does skip sometimes- Pilot pens in general all seem to die before the ink is 1/2 done- the yellow is hard to see but it's not the pen's fault I guess, it's the color4Was doing my history notes, perfect. Bleeds through the back just a little5a fantastic pen!ok, here I am writing a review for a pen. A PEN! But these are great pens, I even used them to create 24 illustrations for my book Mortuary Arts. These work as well for art as they do for writing, such a great flowing experience.I know, I know, its just a pen, BUT its the best pen, beyond going to more expensive handmade pens, that I've ever owned.5I'll be buying these from Amazon in perpetuity.Love, love love these pens! As always I allowed myself to get concerned & almost swayed after reading some of the negative reviews & as with so many other products that I went ahead & gave a shot to, these pens were everything I wanted & more! I seriously sometimes think that people write negative reviews that have no basis or merit & I haven't figured out why. I've used these Pilot Precise V5 Roller Ball pens many times in the past & knew exactly what to expect & how great they are but I've never bought a pack off Amazon. I thought maybe something is different with these Amazon ones & that's what the naysayers are experiencing... I am SO glad that I ignored them & bought these! They have ZERO smudging, even if you wipe your hand across the ink immediately after you wrote something. The tip is very fine which was a must for me. I've used these on regular notebook paper, printouts & the shinier pages of my new recipe book & none of those surfaces smudged one bit. These were also so much cheaper than you could ever find at Staples or Walmart. Do yourself a favor & ignore the naysayers & buy yourself a great set of pens! I'll be reordering these as long as Amazon keeps them stocked!5Pens are not lightfast and shouldn't be used for serious artwork (still, my favorite daily pen)These have been my favorite daily writing and home-sketching pens for years, but I'm concerned about artists' reviews I've read here about how well they like working with them in drawings and watercolors. In going through a stack of papers here at home tonight, one of the many informal works I found had been executed with a Pilot Precise V5 Stick Rolling Ball Pen, Extra-Fine, just like the dozen I recently bought here on Amazon. I was shocked, upon finding this drawing, to see that the luscious blacks laid down by these pens in 2008 had turned blue -- and not even a rich blue. I'm fortunate that these were small experimental works done here at home while watching TV at night because, at the time this one was drawn, I was preparing for a gallery show in Charlotte. The few ink drawings I had in that exhibit had all been executed in my studio and were works done in washes of professional artist's ink applied by brush, rather than any of the drawings from the house. What I appear to have done here at home years ago was the beginning of an inadvertent experiment on the lightfastness of the ink in the Pilot Precise pens. Even though this drawing I found tonight had been lodged in with lots of other papers and informal works, it had still faded despite no direct exposure to sunlight. So, please, do not use these pens for artworks you intend to sell. At some point, you're sure to have a very unhappy customer.5To the Point!Really love needle point pens! And these are amazing! They wrote really well I was a bit skeptical at first seeinh reviews of peoples destroyed pens during shipping but these got here on time and no problems!5I have an unreasonable love for these pens.I love these pens. I love them to the point of being a little neurotic about them. I hate writing with anything else. I was forced recently to write with a regular ballpoint after I left my Pilot somewhere. I ransacked the office supply closet looking for a suitable replacement, found none, and briefly considered going home for the day rather than write with an inferior pen. I found a purple Pilot somewhere in my desk and unapologetically wrote with that purple Pilot pen all day long rather than use a non-Pilot pen. All I was missing was my Teen Beat magazine and dotting my i's with hearts.If you any kind of joint issues that makes writing tiring after a while, try this pen, it might help. The flow is even and easy. Every other pen feels like carving wood in comparison.5
