Customer Reviews

Handy little gadgetsI have used these to make fun-sized egg foo yongs. Cute, and these rings worked great. I benefited by having read all the comments about putting the rings on the skillet while it was heating (I use cast iron) - having the rings heat up with the pan seems to allow them to get closer to the pan surface so there is less chance of leak-through. They worked really well after doing this. The reason for 4 stars - I had not expected that what I was cooking within the rings would adhere to them, but it's happened with every use; bits of batter or egg stick to the side of the rings and rather than my cooked items pulling away very easily, they slightly tear. The batter at the side of the ring seems not to have cooked as thoroughly as the batter closer to the center. Same stove, same skillet I've used for years, so I'm attributing the edges cooking more slowly to the rings not heating up as hot as the skillet. Nonetheless, I will continue to use them, now that I know what to expect, and would still recommend them. 4If I wanted a 3 3/4 inch ring I would have ordered one.Well, I got these to make round pancakes for my Breakfast Sandwich Maker. I assumed that since they say "4 inch" they would make a 4" diameter food item. Silly me.In reality, they are 4 inch outer diameter, for most of the height. They are 3 3/4 inch inner diameter, and then it necks down at the top to 3 1/2 inch diamter. Just so when you go to flip it, you must remove the ring first, and if it sticks, tough, you cannot flip it then press on the firm, cooked surface to clear it.There's nothing really wrong with them per se, they just are not what was advertized and do not work for the application. 2Works great. I read a few comments of other buyers ...Works great. I read a few comments of other buyers prior to buying. Main one was it leaks under the bottom. All you need to due is dip the ring in your mixed egg and set it in the pan. This creates a seal and no leak even on a warped pan. If dropping an egg into it straight from the shell then spray some nonstick or a little oil on the pan, rub the ring around and it seals pretty good. The same for pancakes. If you get sticking on the ring during cooking just spray nonstick or oil the ring just prior to putting in the pan, 5Works great for eggs as long as you pre-heat both the pan *and* the egg ringI got these to cook round eggs and egg whites to make homemade English muffin breakfast sandwiches. The first time I tried them, I used a cool non-stick pan, and put the ring in and immediately poured egg white in. The egg white mostly ran out the bottom of the rings all over the inside of the pan, and I might as well not have used the ring at all. Then I read online and was enlightened. Here's what's working well for me:1. Use a pan with a pretty flat bottom. If you put these rings in a curved or warped pan, egg is likely to leak from under the ring no matter what you do.2. Pre-heat the pan so it's pretty hot, along with a little bit of butter or oil - I use olive oil from a spray bottle to keep calories down.3. Put the egg rings in, and move them around a little to catch some of the grease between the ring and the pan surface.4. Let it sit for a half-minute or so to let the egg ring heat up5. Add the egg white or egg slowly. Because both the pan and the ring are hot, and there's some hot oil in between, when the egg white gets to any gap between the ring and the pan, it instantly cooks a little and forms a seal. Then the rest of the egg white or egg won't leak out.6. Turn the heat down and let the egg cook slowly, from the bottom up. I find if I pull the ring off and try to flip it too early, the top of the egg isn't cooked and I might as well not have used the egg. Some folks mention adding some water to the pan and putting a lid on it, so the bottom of the egg fries and the top steam-cooks. I haven't tried that yet because I usually cook some turkey bacon on the outside of the rings to add to the breakfast sandwich. My only complaint - and this is my reason for deducting a star - is that I don't remember these rings coming with any instructions. If they'd had a piece of paper in with it describing what's above, I wouldn't have messed up my first batch of egg whites. 4Mostly great, feels a little upside downThese are easy to clean and work great for the most part. They do leak a little if you don't get them down nice and flat, especially if you put already scrambled egg into them. If I get a little butter going in the pan and use that to create a seal, then crack an egg directly into the ring and give it a quick stir with a spatula, it usually all holds together. They are just about the size of an english muffin, so it works great for breakfast sandwiches. I can only fit three of them into my biggest pan, though, and would need to break out the flat top to use all four at once. In the orientation they are shown in the picture, with the narrower side down, you'll never get a seal because the metal loop of the handle sits just below what would be the bottom of the ring, so it bumps up from the pan. You have to put them wide side down, which is kind of weird. 4A waste of moneyI bought these for use when frying eggs on our griddle. Since the griddle is a coated product, I didn't want to use a metal egg ring and thought these looked like a good choice. I've used lots of silicone products in the past without a problem.I tried using these three times before throwing them all in the trash. The rings do not sit flat on the griddle (and yes, my griddle is NOT warped or uneven,) and the egg leaks all over the place under the rings. It immediately became apparent that these rings either did not have the necessary weight or strength to sit flat on the pan and prevent the flow of egg, making them totally useless for any purpose I might have for them. They are very soft and flexible. If you're looking for an egg ring, look for something sturdy that won't float away. 1Don t botherI have a single red silicone ring that looks like these that works great, toss it in the drawer pull it out when needed sits flat on the skillet keeping the egg inside. I thought I could use a couple more and ordered these. Out of the four only one actually sits flat enough on the skillet so the eggs don t run all over the place, I d even toss them on the skillet early thinking if they get warm they ll settle down onto the surface, not so much, I gave up on other three and quit using them... I ve been storing the flat one on the counter so it stays flat, for now... My original one is a softer silicone where these are stiffer and not as playable... If I remember where I bought the original one I ll get a couple more and trash these.I don t recommend them. 1Not worth it.Works okay with the pancakes. Eggs leaked immediately. If you decide to give it a try, be sure to spray the rings with cooking spray. 1NiceDid exactly what I wanted. The really nice thing about these is that they don't burn your hand when you try to take them out of the skillet like my old metal ones. Be a bit careful storing them, you can crush them out of shape. To get them back in shape, shove them on the outside of a glass and run hot water over them. 5Virtually UselessUnless you spend well over fifteen minutes to prep (Heating pan/Oiling Ring, etc. , and SLLLOOOOWWWLLLY pour egg into the from while holding it down (burning your hand all the while until the bottom of the egg is solidified) your egg WILL, and I do mean WILL escape the mold every single time!Even with all of the above steps -stretching prep and cook times multiples of times (for a two to three minute egg/ fifteen minutes?!?!?--really?) the egg will still leak some, and will certainly not be "round" nine times out of ten.So I ask you; is all of this worth the semi round eggs you will actually get most of the time? A very BIG fat NO, is my answer. I cannot understand the low bar others have for a good review of this item. I literally tried everything to get this mold to work properly. It performed miserably. Maybe if the mold were heavier and more sturdy (less prone to warping) this MAY be successful. The best part of Amazon is that products that are clearly not suited for the use for which they are sold : get a poor rating eventually. I am shocked this one had not reached that point yet. 1
