Cheaply made and broke after four uses.The metal blades broke off the fourth time I used this on an apple. My old one, different company, lasted over twenty years when it became dull and slightly rusty. Very disappointed at inferior quality being how I have had good results with other Oxo products. I don't recommend and won't buy this again, 1Did not cut my apple. Stopped about halfway down ...Did not cut my apple. Stopped about halfway down and then had a real hard time getting off the apple piece of junk! And I thought OXO was a reliable brand, not anymore 1Awesome, sturdy corer!I've had this corer for a few weeks now and have been using it on a regular basis to cut up apple slices. As a 23-year-old woman, I can shamelessly admit that apples taste better when cut into even slices.I feel like this is a totally magic product, despite its simplicity. Apparently I've just never used a corer before. But by centering this device on top of an apple and pushing a little weight into it, you can create eight gorgeous equal pieces of apple! YUM.But in all seriousness... this corer definitely feels sturdy. I always get a little nervous when I push down on the handles but they seem to be able to take the pressure. I took off one star for two primary reasons:- the cut seems to go about 95% of the way and then you need to work some magic yourself and do the rest by hand- handwashing can be difficult because the blades are sharp and the little nooks and crannies can be hard to get intoTwo things that are worth taking one star off for, but definitely don't make me change my mind about how great this product is. I'm sure if I had kids I'd be able to say something like "this helps me show my daughter that eating fruits and veggies can be fun!" or something... but nope. I'm just a college graduate who can appreciate a good, evenly cut, apple slice. 4Nice enough, but doesn't remove enough of the coreI have several other OXO products and was surprised that this product doesn't seem to have been tested before getting manufactured. I've used it for a week or so now on a variety of apples, different sizes and shapes... And the same problem persists in that it doesn't remove enough of the core and I find myself breaking out the knife to chop away the near core part of the apple that is left with seeds. I could have chopped the apples myself with a knife in the first place and saved my money on this product. 3easy to useThe Oxo apple corer is easy to use, and the wide angle handles keep your hands out of the way of the apple. I really like the grip material as it helps keep you steady on the downward press. The corer seems most efficient on small to medium apples, because with large ones, I tend to get a bit of core on 1 or 2 slices of apple. (original review from September 9, 2011)****edit June 20, 2014....Just purchased a second one of these corer/dividers, and not to replace the first one from 2011. The 2011 one is still going! This second one is to replace the numerous others ones that have broken since 2011. I finally wised up and did not purchase the a replacement that hangs conveniently beside the apples in the local grocery store. And instead, ordered and received my second Oxo apple corer. From a household who uses the product daily, and has used and broken numerous other brands, buy a long lasting OXO. 5Nice productI had a bumper crop of apples last summer and found myself spending a lot of time peeling and slicing apples for storage. Using this product you still need to peel but coring and slicing are done in an instant. The handles are soft and comfortable, a must when you have a lot of apples to process.A couple of suggestions for use: use a cutting board or something similar as the "base" when cutting. You must use a fair amount of pressure to complete the cut. Another is to use hand towels to cover nearby areas. I had juice spraying across the counter.It definately works best on apples that have grown straight. Crooked apples can push the coring off center and leave behind areas you'll need to go back and cut out manually. Overall though, the time it saves is worth the small troubles. 4Broke after 1.5 months -- do not recommendAs with many others, this broke 1.5 months after we purchased it. Cannot return it bc outside of Amazon's 30-day window. No other options, it seems -- Amazon has left me stranded, which is unlike them. Disappointed overall. 1Helps you eat an apple a dayI'm definitely eating more apples now. That was the point. Unfortunately, it only cuts 95% and I wind up tearing the pieces off the last little bit. Nevertheless, a good value for the price. Now that I have it, I am more likely to pack apple slices as a snack and avoid stopping for fast food on long drives. 4apple eating has gone up in this householdWhy it took so long to get this?! Idk!! I thought everyone was perfectly capable of cutting thier own apple and core it, or just chomp it down, lol. But no! Too many times have I thrown out Apples because the expired, because a "already made" bag of chips was easier to grab and munch!Well! Not anymore! I have caramel sauce and peanut butter and this handy lil'cutter! And now, I have more AppleEaters! Plus, sometimes I use it to serve Apples to friends/guests, they love it! I was surprised at how accepting others are to dresh fruit being served versus pre-made/packaged snacks!Just get it! You will not regret this buy! :) 5Great while it lasted--not longBroke after two weeks. This slicer/corer worked great while it lasted, easy on the hands and cut apples easily. Unfortunately after using it for two weeks & cutting only one apple per day, the center circle broke free of the cutting spokes making it useless. This the first time an Oxo product hasn't lasted for me as they are usually well made and sturdy. 1
