Customer Reviews

Best Butter keeper around especially for the price. I bought this for my dad, his mom had a butter dish like this and he had always wanted one but he is not an online shopper. He's never seen one in stores and thus has never gotten one. He mentioned something about how he didn't think they made them anymore because he's never been able to find one and I though "oh I could probably find it online". So I gave him this one for Christmas and he was ecstatic, I can't say much on how well it holds up to regular wear and tear because he treats the thing like its the most delicate porcelain butter dish to ever to be created, bestowed down on him by the pope himself or something. But so far it's held up good and honestly if you've never used a butter dish like this, I would, it keeps your butter fresh year round whether you put it in the fridge or leave it out. it's a really awesome addition to any kitchen. 5NIce, convenient and worth the money. There is nothing more frustrating than to have your toast piping hot and the butter hard and cold....but the butter keeper prevents that from ruining your morning breakfast...all you do is let a stick of butter sit out for about 15 min, then cut it into pats and stuff the butter into the cup of the keeper...fill the larger container with about an inch of cold water and flip the cup of butter into the container and leave it on the counter. Butter remains spreadable and safe for up to a week....I do empty and change the water every few days just to keep things fresh.5This is a classy butter holder! I became used to these containers for keeping the butter fresh while it sat out on the counter when I lived in Europe and was devastated when mine broke after coming back home, because I knew it wouldn t be easy to find a replacement in the States. I don't understand why these haven't replaced the horrid butter dishes used here where the butter goes rancid so quickly if left out or it's as hard as a brick from the refrigerater and you can't spread it on a slice of bread. With this you put the butter in the cup, invert it into the water inside the pot and it stays cool and fresh for ages. It s attractive on the table or counter and so practical to use! Buy one of these great quality Norpro butter keepers for everyone you know for the holidays, it really is one of those "one size fits all" gifts that works for every person (who uses butter or margarine). They'll love you for it! Spread the word - if you'll excuse the pun - of these innovative butter holders to all you know and let's change how we put the butter out in this country. 5Simple but elegant means of keeping room temp butter safe!Love my butter bell! I like using real butter over "fake food" margarine but always had to plan use enough to take the butter out of the refrigerator so it can soften before using. Butter does go bad if exposed to the air for very long because it is a dairy product. With this butter bell, I can put an entire stick of softened butter inside the "lid" and add about 2" of water to the bottom part. The water forms a kind of seal around the butter keeping the bacteria out without getting the butter watery. It works beautifully! I received this in perfect time to use on the table at Christmas Dinner and this simple but classy design was perfect. I only wish I hadn't waited so long to buy it. The price of this bell is about half the price of others I have found online and it works the same way (I first learned of this device a few years ago while visiting a friend of mine over Thanksgiving). If you enjoy butter, or even stick margarine I am guessing, this will be perfect.5Hard to hold!I have another Norpro butter keeper, one with a blue band, that I actually like. This one, though, is rather poorly designed. The part where you pick it up when it is inserted into the water container is so small that it is quite hard to hang on to, and I have dropped it many times. I haven't broken it, but I need to find some way, perhaps a ring of silicone, to get a better grip. The biggest problem I have with both of them is that they are pretty much useless in hot weather. The butter slides down into the water, resulting in a bit of a mess. Plus, I need to have a cube of butter out somewhere to soften enough to put in the keeper. And finally, I can't tell how much better I have until I lift it up and look!Still an interesting concept, but a clear-cover butter dish works best for me.2Grab-handle is too small!I recently broke my Norpro butter keeper and replaced it with this one, thinking it was exactly the same. At first glance all seemed well, but when I tried to lift out the butter-filled bell I realized there is a big difference: the very top of the lid (where you grab it to pull it up) is much shorter with less depth and no flare, making it difficult to hold onto. Because of this, I'm afraid this new butter keeper is likely to slip out of someone's hand and end up broken on the counter---sooner rather than later! As for how it performs, I love the way these bells keep butter perfectly soft for spreading on toast and other baked goods. It is crucial to make sure to "pack" the butter in so it is touching the sides; otherwise you might find the entire blob of butter plops out into the water when you raise the top. An old-world solution to a modern-world problem of butter refrigerated rock hard.I wish Norpro hadn't changed the design of the mold for this top---suppose it saves them a little expense in casting a smaller top handle?! I can't do without a butter keeper, but I'll start looking for another one with a handle that can be held easily.3keeps my butter fresh and at room temp.I love this!I looked into so many of these and initially wanted a marble one but was worried by reviews that some saw mold in their butter or that it had arrived cracked. I decided sturdy porcelain was the best way to go and so far so good! I left out one stick of butter to soften to room temp. and then used the back of a spoon push chunks of it into the bell - it fit one whole stick. Then I filled the bottom about a third of the way with cold water and placed the bell over it. I replace the water every 3-5 days and so far the butter hasn't gone bad on me.I'm on my second stick of butter now and the first stick stayed fresh for about a month before we finished it...i.e. it never went bad.5Pass me the butter!Got one for me, loved it, got one for our pastors wife. Showed her how to make butter, by shaking room temperature heavy whipping cream in a mason jar. Shake it vigorously around for about a minute. You got whipped cream. Shake it vigorously for another minute and then you get butter! Dump out the milk, add salt, if you want, and enjoy! This keeps my butter fresh for about 30 days, changing the lightly salted water every three days. This butter bell is also cute to the eye. I really recommend this to everyone! If you have young kids, what a wonderful thing to share with them! A nice science project! If my gramma saw this she'd have a fit! They made butter by a huge churn,,,a lot of work! Secret is room temp heavy whipping cream! Don't forget to make flavors for your butter, like garlic, brown sugar and cinnamon,,,,,,,Try it!5I love butter! I am an aspiring chef who cooks with high quality butter a great deal and I also use it to spread on bread. I don't know why more Americans don't use this method of keeping butter fresh on the countertop. It's a no brainer. I've been storing my butter like this since the early 1980s and it's the only way to go. Bear in mind that doing so certainly can be problematic in excessively warm weather [of course it would ~ just use a little common sense here, people]. And also bear in mind that you cannot keep your butter this way indefinitely, as any natural product will degrade (get a little moldy ~ again, use common sense here) if left unattended for extended periods of time. Generally, if you can use a full stick of butter (to cook with and to spread), say within 5-6 days, you should be fine with this method in moderate to warm weather. There is NOTHING worse that tasting stale refrigerator dreck on a slice of bread or in a great dish you have just prepared on the stove. I have friends who think they are great cooks, but think nothing of using opened butter they have stored in the fridge to serve with fresh bread or use in their food prep. It ABSOLUTELY and COMPLETELY RUINS the meal! Highly recommend this item which is nicely priced: so SPREAD the word on butter keepers my gourmet friends! 4Can't believe I'm excited over this...I can't believe I'm excited over this item. My husband and I love to eat bread...and we always want our butter soft...but it's impossible to leave it out to soften for longer then 5 min without having one of the cats sniff it or even worse, paw it. This item solves the issue!! I first saw a similar item at my friend's house...but hers was a lot smaller, more like a egg holder...needless to say, I was a bit surprise by the size of this thing. Don't get me wrong...I love the size, because it, perfectly, fits 1 bar of butter.Pros:- It works!! I take a cold butter from the fridge and using the wrapper, I push the entire bar of butter into the butter keeper...add in 1 inch of water into the butter holder, volia~~- White porcelain works with any decor- It fits 1 whole bar of butter- I haven't had an issue with the butter fall into the water yetCons:- None so far.5It BrokeThis is a fantastic item! I bought it as a gift for my wife, and she loved it immensely and showered me with kisses.But....It broke after only a couple of weeks after the purchase. The top separated from the part that holds the butter - if you look you can see how those two parts are connected with a very weak joint. We had not dropped it, or mistreated it in any way other than to put butter in it and use it as intended. I think that because our kitchen tends to be cool it made the porcelain ceramic material expand and contract to adjust to the changes in temperature beyond its limits, but if this is so, it would make this item not very sturdy at all.I'm going to buy another butter keeper, but this time I'm going to make sure that it is made of bone china porcelain (real bone china made with real ground bone dust), which is supposed to be the most durable ceramic material around.3Small handle, may come with blemishesWorks in the spot I thought it would, just got the black glass. Came with black dot blemishes. The unpacking was simple but I agree with another review, the grab handle is really short. Had it for 2 days, put salt water in the bottom. There isn't a "fill to here" line so I had to guesstimate. Not sure how long I will go about using this one, might spend a little more and get a little more in quality. I will definitely update.3This is perfect for keeping butter fresh at room temperatureThis is perfect for keeping butter fresh at room temperature. I had never tried one before, so never knew what I was missing. I really like having spreadable butter available when I need it. I change out the water every few days with a little cold salted water, and have no problem with any spoilage. It holds 1/4 lb. of butter. It will stay fresh for at least a week. That's the longest that I've gotten a 1/4 lb. of butter to last, before I've eaten it all. It would probably last longer, but I can't really attest to that. If you've never had fresh spreadable butter always handy -- you should give this a try.5
