Customer Reviews

Worth the money! I bought this item because I was looking for a pan that wouldn't warp under high heat in my oven. There's nothing more annoying than hearing a sudden bang from my oven and realizing that the pan just twisted under the heat - and if there's a cake or something semi-liquid in there, well, I'm spending the next few hours cleaning the oven. But that's on me for buying the cheap ones.So I finally bought these, and lo and behold, they do NOT warp! I've used them dozens of times since I bought them and not once I hear that dreaded bang. The pans hold up beautifully. They will develop a nice patina over time, but so far they still look new. I'm quite pleased! 5Manufacturing defect on all of them I recently replaced all my bakeware with Nordic Ware because in my research it kept coming up as one of the best. And I would have to agree with that for all of my pieces except this cake pan. It arrived and had deep grooves along the edges of the pan. It doesn t effect functionality, but I was hoping to also use this pan as a serving dish, and it just looks tacky the way it is. I had a replacement shipped to me and they are identical. Like every single groove lines up perfectly on each pan. This showed me it was a manufacturing defect. I reached out to Nordic Ware and they responded quickly which was nice, but they told me that it was normal and shouldn t affect it s function. I already knew this, but I felt disappointed that an ugly scratch/groove was just considered normal. Really makes the pans look shabby. I decided to keep anyway because it seems well made, just unattractive. I wouldn t recommend to others though because it s just tacky that a company knows how one of their products looks damaged and says it s normal. None of my other Nordic Ware pieces had anything like this. 2Perfect for Brownies & Baked Macaroni & Cheese! I purchased two of these pans along with the smaller size specifically for baking goodies that need a deep dish and these pans are just perfect! My review is for both of these items. It is made of pure aluminum which has superior heat conductivity allowing goods like cakes and brownies to rise and bake evenly. These pans are perfect for everyday use, and the lids make it easy for transporting items like brownies for school bake sales or sports events. My lids are all still fully intact but I mostly use them at home for storing left over brownies on the counter. Clean up is also quick and easy; I simply hand wash with hot soapy water. What I love most about these pans are how deep they are (about 2.5 inches), allowing you to make large quantities of food especially for casseroles (potatoes gratin, macaroni and cheese), especially when you don't feel like pulling out your fancy breakable ceramic dish! I have even used it for ribs and roasting whole chicken!Overall I highly recommend these pans. They are perfect for everyday use and made right here in the United States. Grade A+ 5discolored and rusts hugely disappointed... after hand washing the pan became matte-colored and dark rusty looking areas started to appear after baking... can't even take a silver-sponge to it cuz all the scratch marks that appear. now i have to always line the pans with something before use. i have the cookie sheet pan as well and i find that when it's hot and i take it out of the oven it comes out semi-concaved and then POPs back in place as it cools .... not very safe ... will be replacing them. 1Inside coloration different than in photos but still worked fabulous. I purchased this a month ago from Amazon. I was a little surprised when I received it because the interior of the pan had a textured surface, much darker than the aluminum (almost a burnished aluminum look) The photo for the product shows aluminum inside and out, which is what I had before. I had purchased this pan before, from W**mart, but they no longer carried it. It was taken at a pot luck and never seen again. I could have cried! Label your pot luck dishes...... Anyway, I incorrectly assumed the sprayed interior meant it was non-stick. Well, it is not! Thats ok, the bar cookies slid out anyway (there was plenty of butter in that recipe) but now I know. I also used a metal knife to cut those bar cookies and not a single scratch on the pan. These are amazing pieces of bakeware. I am curious if I actually received a real nordicware piece as the seller that I purchased this from is no longer on here....hmmm. Well, the pan I got is working great so far and otherwise feels identical to my old one. Just wish it was aluminum inside and out. 4Easily transportable I bought this specifically for baking cakes for church functions. The cake always turns out moist and the pan washes so easily. The lid snaps on tightly and makes it so easy to transport. Everyone else uses Pyrex containers so it's also easy to know which is mine without having to look for names! 5Not for baking other foods Even though the product is called cake pan, I bought it for baking things like enchiladas, not cakes. I thought that would be okay, but unfortunately, I was wrong. The pan became mottled (discolored) after the first time I used it, plus it was difficult to clean. I let it soak for hours, but I still had to scrub it to get all the food off. Not good! So I bought a nonstick pan. This pan seems fine otherwise sturdy, lid fits well, etc. But I think nonstick pans are so much easier that I doubt if I ll ever buy the regular stuff again. 3Don't put them in the dishwasher! I bought 2 of these pans in December 2010 because I'm the person who asks "What can I bring?" to a gathering and the response is nearly always cake. These pans are heavyweight aluminum, I've used them a LOT, and they're absolutely fantastic when it comes to toting a sheet cake (I used to bake with glass pans and the cling-wrap over the cake would always stick to the frosting, grrrr). I've used this pan for pork roasts too. These pans are sturdy and haven't warped at all, even though I often take a cake out of the 350* oven and put the pan right into the freezer. They don't have a non-stick coating but that's not an issue for me because I always grease or oil any pan first (even the non-stick ones!) and nothing has ever stubbornly stuck to these Nordic Ware pans. Of course, I haven't horribly burned anything, heh. Oh, another thing - the lids haven't cracked at all and they still fit like they should. You know how these say "handwash only"? They aren't kidding. I stuck these in my dishwasher anyway, and within a couple months dark grey residue showed up on both pans, and I couldn't scrub it off with Dawn and a blue scrubby sponge. Turns out that dark grey residue was a sign of oxidation, not good for the aluminum. After a few more months, a chalky haze began to cover the pans. Gross looking. The dishwasher detergent was just too harsh for the aluminum. I bought some Bar Keeper's Friend and with some scrubbing both the chalky haze and dark grey residue came off. They now look a LOT better, and are being handwashed from here on out. 5Nice weight and very shiny I have baked my favorite cake in this pan and it turned out better than ever! Very good height on the cake without having the top crack under the same baking conditions. Product release from the pan was a breeze and I can't say enough about the convenience of the lid. I am using a plastic knife to prevent scratching when cutting the cake in the pan.I had some apprehension about the rounded corners and the unsealed metal underneath the rim of the pan. I prefer a cake with sharp corners but, it's only relevant if you are removing the cake from the pan for stacking or serving. My concern with the rim is long term cleaning if the underside of the pan.The pros significantly outweigh my potential cons so, I'm rating five stars. 5Made in USA of decent metal BUT very weak (brittle) plastic lid Well, we wanted to love this. I have not actually baked with it. I had to initiate RMA for the first one due to broken plastic lid (see picture). It was obvious something impacted the box in which Amazon shipped it. Because the box had other items in it, I figured the plastic lid that came with the pan took a hit that broke it in pieces...and thought "that's Amazon's fault". Fair enough. However, the replacement pan/lid was shipped in a dedicated and well-protected box. Yet we again found the wimpy plastic lid was cracked and will certainly break with little use. It's simply a matter of extremely low-cost / low-quality production for molded plastic. The pan itself is probably okay to use.I'm not a plastics engineer, but I did work in IT at a plastics manufacturer in the area. I can say with confidence the problem with Nordic Ware is the plastics engineering and manufacture. It's quite clear Nordic Ware management said "we need to cut costs". It's disappointing that Made in USA is really nothing to write home about (though it's worth writing a review in feeling let down). I love their cookie sheets. The aluminum cake pan will probably last a while. The lid is utterly worthless. I almost did RMA for the replacement Amazon sent me, but I'll keep the pan and file the lid in the recycle bin. 2
