Customer Reviews

Label glued to mesh and the glue is difficult to remove. I just received the mesh sifter. I really can't understand the thought process that lead someone to package this product with the label glued onto the mesh, in three locations. I'm am trying to remove the glue now without damaging the mesh, but as your customer, I should not have to be working so hard to fix such a ridiculous oversight on your behalf.HERE'S MY TIP: Glue your label to the solid metal on the outside of the sifter. 1Paper Label GLUED to the mesh! I should have read more of the negative reviews. My Tamis Mesh Sifter (drum style) arrived with a large label glued in multiple places to the mesh, much like a label in the bottom of a non-stick skillet. This glue is much tougher than the typical rubber cement type adhesive, and penetrates all the way through the material. I've tried so hard to get this glue out of the mesh, and cannot. If you're Mrs Anderson, I hope you read this. Please stop this practice.***UPDATE***Here's what worked for removing 97.5% of that glue. I inverted a 3 1/2 qt saucepan on my counter, and covered it with a paper towel. Placed the mesh down so the pan/towels were supporting it. Sprayed WD-40 liberally on the glue areas, and let the overspray that ran into the towels, soak against the glue areas for a few minutes. I then sprayed the areas again, and then used an old toothbrush that I sprayed w/ WD-40 (often) to scrub the glue areas. The WD- 40 was then washed away w/ dishwashing detergent. Everything is clean, dry, and residue-free. Just a few tiny specs remain. 1GLUED This item came with four big splotches of glue on the screen used to hold the label and the plastic wrapper in place. I was able to get the label and wrapper off but the glue was really stuck on the screen and I don't think it should be incumbent on the purchaser to spend an inordinate amount of time getting all that glue off, especially in the tiny screen holes. It would not come of with hot water and soap and did not readily peel away. I applied for a return, I am to receive a refund without the need to send it back, so all is good, but this item as packaged was not acceptable. I did not try to see if it would hold up to the intended use. 1Much better than squeeze handle sifter I first purchased a squeeze handle type of sifter, thinking that it was an ingenious idea. Instead, it felt like a Captains Of Crush hand gripper workout. OK, that is an exaggeration, but that was how it felt psychologically. We would squeeze dozens of times before getting through 1 measly cup of flour. So it was cathartic when I threw that one into the trash -- it was that bad.I purchased this one instead. Compared to the squeeze handle type, this sifter works so much better. It is easy to turn the handle and sift the flour. However, even though it is a large 5 cup sifter, I feel that it is better to put at most 1.5 cups of flour at a time. It will be easier to sift, I guess because if you use too much, the flour may start to pack down making the handle harder to turn (just a guess). Some flour will be on the edges which cannot be reached by the turning mechanism, but a few small lateral shakes will push that flour into the large sifting area. Also, do not turn the handle too quickly. The first time I used it, I turned it too quickly and flour spilled out of the top. That's another reason why I wouldn't fill too much. This does have a pretty wide footprint and I sort of wish it had a bottom lid so that I could add flour into the sifter without having to balance the sifter over the bowl at the same time. But overall, we are very pleased with this sifter. Caveat: I am not an experienced baker, everything above encompasses my full history of sifting flour. 4It's TRUE about the GLUE It's really too bad, because the sifter is basically a good one, but - many reviewers warn about the three thick globs of Chinese glue behind the label seared into the screen. You will NEVER get it off, even with adhesive removers, razor blades, scrappers, elbow grease etc. If you don't believe the reviews, go ahead like me and find out the hard way. At least Amazon accepts returns. Horse people have an old saying: sticks like s--- to a blanket. If you need the 9 or 10 inch diameter, there is another one available: Gabkey Stainless Steel 40 Mesh Flour Sieve Sifting Strainer. I just ordered one. Good luck and happy baking! 2Be aware before you buy! It looked like a great product. I think it will work fine. However, The globs of adhesive (three) they use to attach their label to the screen are a challenge to remove. Unless you have the skill and steady hand of a heart surgeon and a gallon of acetone, don't buy this product. It took me 45 minutes and multiple sessions of acetone and rags to gently remove the adhesive. It is definitely not water soluble.I believe there should be a special hell for the people who decide to deliver products this way. They should spend eternity removing this adhesive from their products. This is the first bad review I have ever written. 1Crank gauge wire is flimsy I have had this type for years (but of another brand named "Bromwell's" which was galvanized tin, but started to rust, but it looks exactly like this new Mrs. Anderson's stainless one). The crank on this new stainless one is made from a slightly lighter .098 gauge wire that unfortunately allows it to flex too much during use, and act like a "spring" under the load of the flour, and this causes it to constantly throw flour up out of the container. My older one did not do this even though the gauge of wire used was only .006 thicker (it is .104 gauge). The slight difference in gauge makes all the difference in it's "action", The crank length on this new stainless one is also 1" shorter than the older Bromwell's one, which makes it have a slightly more inadequate awkward "shorty toy like feel" to turn on this new Mrs. Anderson's stainless one (in my opinion) (I would like to see the crank extend in length so that the knob is just to the bottom of the container, but no further). 3Waste of money I definitely do not recommend this item. The label, which is the size of the screen, comes attached with three dime size dots of glue that will never come off....what in the world was the manufacturer thinking? The product is not usable or returnable.spend a bit more money and buy a product you can use. 1Do not purchase! The glue of where they apply the packaging to it is imbedded in the screen holes. Extremely difficult to come out and will damage the screen. Other words, I cannot use it. I fear glue would fall into food if I did. Too bad because it is the perfect size for home use. The kicker is, I tried to return and it said I cannot. 1Great but packaging almost ruins it This is a solid sifter, but has one huge problem. There is a paper label attached to the mesh itself using hot glue or some other adhesive that binds inside the mesh. No household solvents, not acetone, alcohol, or isopropyl alcohol could get it off. I had to resort to an industrial heat gun on high to literally burn it awayYou could try using a candle or lighter, but you have to BURN that adhesive off. which is just stupid design.Once the adhesive is gone, it's perfectly fine, however. If it didn't have that massive annoyance, I'd have given it 5 stars. 2
