Customer Reviews

Imperfect At first I thought this was a great simple maker for the price. However, it has a tendency to brew too quickly which forces the grounds to go over the filter sometimes. I have heard this from other owners. It only lasted five months, but I live close to a service center and the company sent me a new one in two weeks. So that was no problem. While I was waiting for the replacement I decided to buy a Hamilton Beach 12 cup which is very similar. It is a far superior maker. It uses a cone grind holder which seems to make a smoother and mellower cup of coffee. It is slightly slower and does not overflow the grounds. Also, the coffee is hotter. Both makers do not have a two hour timer off, but I prefer this since I drink from the pot all day long. Some reviewers say they forget to turn it off, but when you take that last cup, just turn it off! Both were easy to clean. The other thing I preferred about the Mr. Coffee was the switch was in front which made it easier to see and use the on/off light. A minor point. 3Designed for the Dump Bought this coffee maker on 8/2015 after our old one that lasted for well over a decade finally gave out. We got an inexpensive one as we did not need any fancy features. It worked to expectations till 9/2016 when the element gave out. Just a little over a year of use. I'm so disappointed. As we have other Mr. Coffee products and they seem to be working just fine after years of use. (espresso and ice tea makers) Maybe I shouldn't of got the cheapest version, but again we didn't need any of the fancy functions. Get up, flip switch, have coffee. But apparently this is too much to ask for this product. Just went from a loyal Mr. Coffee product user to now shop for other brands. Good job not keeping your customer base Mr. Coffee. 2I WAS SO PLEASED WITH THAT UNIT I PURCHASED THIS 'SWITCH-ONLY' MODEL[I'VE NEVER ... THE LAST MR COFFEE I PURCHASED FROM AMAZON LASTED 9 YRS BEFORE I RECENTLY BROKE THE GLASS POT CLEANING IT...I WAS SO PLEASED WITH THAT UNIT I PURCHASED THIS 'SWITCH-ONLY' MODEL[I'VE NEVER USED ALL THE 'AUTOMATIC' FEATURES ON THE INITIAL MODEL].AND COULD NOT BE MORE PLEASED WITH IT!! AS USUAL WITH ALL THE ITEMS I BUY FROM AMAZON THE PRICE IS THE LOWEST ON THE PLANET/THE QUALITY IS THE HIGHEST/AND THE 1 DAY FREE UPS DELIVERY IS OUTSTANDING!!..SO FAR THIS MR. COFFEE DOES EXACTLY WHAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO DO..'IT MAKES GREAT COFFEE EVERY TIME'!! SO WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE ABOUT THIS PURCHASE??!! 5Great Coffeemaker This is my second Mr. Coffee, same model. My prior one lasted many years. This one is working great, so far.I'd give it 5 stars, except in my opinion that I like to dry my coffee maker after each use and it's hard to get a towel into the various grooves, nooks, crevices, etc. But the overall design, simplicity, quality, and reliability far out-weigh this little inconvenience. 4Does what it should do -- day in and day out June 2016 Update: Well, after 4 years, 2 months, the coffee maker stopped working. It won't heat the water. Do I want products I purchase to last forever? Of course. Am I disappointed in this purchase? No. For approximately 1500 days (excluded 3 weeks for vacations), in an area with very hard water, and often keeping it on 8 hours or so to have coffee throughout the day, I what I got out of it for <2cents per day to be worthwhile. I am now purchasing another of the same model to replace it. I wish those of you who also purchase it success with yours.********************************We used the earlier version of this coffee make for several years, and then gave it away when we received a Keurig as a gift. The Keurig was really easy to use, but after two years, just to expensive for daily use. In April 2012 we purchased this Mr. Coffee unit from Amazon, and for the past 6+ months, it has consistently delivered good, brewed coffee at least every morning, and sometimes throughout the day. It is simple us, and has not disappointed us yet. As with any coffee maker, I expect to have to open the reservoir lid to let the condensation go into the tank, and to exercise care when pouring as coffee pot glass spouts notoriously drip a drop or two. Overall -- it does what we need it to do, dependably.UPDATE ONE YEAR LATER FROM ORIGINAL REVIEW: I'm not sure what prompted me to revisit this review, but since I'm here .... This coffee maker continues to make good coffee, everyday. We use it daily except for approximately 7 days in the year. As noted in the original review, this is our second experience with this model. I expect things to last forever. And they just don't anymore. But at this point we have gotten our money from thsi unit, and hopefully will continue to enjoy it for years to come. 5Good quality, just needs auto shoutoff feature, I do think it is starting to grow old already. However, I use it multiple times a day, so maybe I am just wearing it out already. Brews at speed comparable to other models. The hot plate works great. Stays very hot for about two hours. The only setback is that this doesn't have auto-shutoff after two hours (for those like me that sometimes forget about the leftover coffee). It doesn't quite say this, but I have been able to pick up the carafe and pour a cup (sneak a cup) and it just kind of holds in the filter, like a sensor, until I place the carafe back on the hot plate. 4The pot leaks when pouring no matter how slow The person that sold this to me was amazing when the first coffee pot I received, the carafe leaked. They immediately replaced the whole unit for me! With that said no matter what, it s the design of the glass spout maybe, the carafe leaks when you use it to put water in the coffee pot or pour the coffee out of the carafe into your cup. 1Economical, simple, and does the job. I bought another one like this but by a different manufacturer (the same Mr. Coffee model). It lasted just over a year. The failure was likely because coffee overflowed out of the reservoir on a number of occasions and dripped on, around and under the hot plate. The old one just stopped one day, and didn't heat water or the hot plate. I believe this was entirely my fault for repeatedly not placing the pot under the brewer. When I needed to buy another one I purchased the same model but now produced by a different manufacturer. If you have low cabinets you will have to pull it out from under them to pour the water into the back reservoir as you need a good 21 inches above your counter-top to fully open the top cover. It's not a big hassle but some people may not like this idea. I have 24 inches and still pull it out to fill the reservoir as the pot needs another few inches of space to fully empty on the reservoir fill, a total of about 24 inches of vertical free space or so.In using this coffee maker I found that the drip-stop valve did not always work well, and often leaked a bit onto the hot plate--the valve needs to be kept clean to avoid the worst of these spills. The price, @14, is very reasonable. Any short comings are pretty much over-come by the price. I ended up buying these coffe-makers because the cost of replacement of the glass pot was just about what the brewer and pot cost for this model. 4Best coffee makers ever Simple, no fuss. No extra "features", just durable and easily cleaned and makes great coffee. No silly foil packets or plastic containers to create waste and cost a fortune. Makes simple, straight-forward pot of coffee. Gets used two to five times a day, average of three. The previous ones have lasted us for three or so years of that kind of (ab)use. This one is actually a replacement for one that had a slow leak from the water reservoir. Promptly replaced by Amazon. All of our previous coffee makers suffered deteriorating hot plates. Since they are similar to an electric stove heating element I am not surprised. Those fail over time as well. We also live in a high iron content area, this requires regular cleaning with vinegar. But it all takes a toll. For the price and simplicity it can't be beat. 5Bad news, and the one and only reason I ... safety issue with this. most coffeemakers are equipped with automatic shut-off after 2 hours, but this one does not. I brought it to work and someone who used it didn't know this, so I came to work the next morning to find that it was still on, and had been on all night long, and an empty carafe was still sitting on the warming plate. Bad news, and the one and only reason I regret purchasing it. even a generic model that I had bought at the grocery store in the past had automatic shut-off. This should be fixed. I don't recommend it. 2
