Customer Reviews

... from Amazon last Christmas and my husband and I love it. I works great at aerating your wine ... Our son bought us this carafe from Amazon last Christmas and my husband and I love it. I works great at aerating your wine and the parts fit snuggly onto the carafe. However, sadly, the glass of this carafe is literally paper thin, and I'm not exaggerating. Last week it broke with just the slightest of tapping against a fork, yes a fork! I'm debating about replacing it with this exact carafe again, because I'm sure the manufacturer (which surprised me as being from CHINA), has not changed the design of this paper thin carafe. For $50.00, if should hold up a lot longer than 6 months! 3Nice and effective product. Been very pleased with both the look and results. Easy to use in both directions so serving from the bottle or the decanter is easy. If you're having a big party and plan to use it, I'd suggest getting started BEFORE your guests arrive since it does take some time to go back and forth and then stay a little ahead of demand. I didn't purchase a drying stand but it would be a good idea. Actually, I think a simple platform could/should be part of the purchase. I've used it for reds and some whites and cleaning has not been a problem. Guests love to see it in action! 4Stopper did not fit in caraffe Stopper was too large to fit into the caraffe. I have used this exact brand of decanter before so I know they are snug, but this one one was not going in and I was afraid to push down on it too hard. The glass caraffe was also exceptionally dusty when I took it out of the box, which is a little unusual and made me question whether this was new and/or authentic. Returned. 2Fun way of decanting wine My wife and I saw this product being used at a winery in Napa Valley and it was a real eye-catcher. You literally place the carafe on top of the open wine bottle, then invert it and watch the wine cascade down the sides of the carafe, vastly accelerating aeration. You can then serve the wine directly from the carafe, or reverse the process and pour the wine back into the bottle for serving. It's great with a young wine that needs to breathe. It is not appropriate for older wines, or any wine with sediment, as it will disturb the sediment and mix it in the wine. Those should be decanted in the traditional way, very slowly. We've used the carafe at parties and it fascinates everyone. It's a lot of fun to use. And no, we've never spilled a drop! 5Awesome but not durable I love the carafe, the option to pour the wine out and back in made many of my wines that needed hours of breathing taste great in minutes. However, two have broken easily already. So now I have to look for a sturdier option and hope it exists. For instance, I was moving a plate that glanced it and it shattered. The other was while cleaning it and it dropped about 2-3 inches, which is more understandable than the 1st time I broke it but it was still being partially supported by my hand (the glass shattered everywhere and cut me in both hands)It would get 5 stars because it does really work great, it just isn t durable enough. I ve broken 1 glass and 0 plates at home in the last 7 years.. but 2 menu wine carafes haven t managed to survived. 3What a great find! My husband read about this carafe in a wine magazine and thought, "yeah, right. It's just another aerator, but this one has a carafe." But we read the 2 reviews on Amazon and thought maybe this is worth trying. It absolutely is! This is better than just an aerator. We've been testing our wines since getting this-- having some before running them through the carafe and then again afterward. What a difference! It really can make a mediocre, even a bad, wine good! One wine we tried we found we didn't like at all. It's one we would have thrown out after a few sips-- too many harsh tannins and where was the fruit? But after using the Menu Winebreather Carafe, it was actually a very nice wine. Not a favorite, and we wouldn't buy it again (just not fruity enough for our tastes, although it had improved), but it kept it from being wasted down the drain. Other experiments with wines we regularly enjoyed made them even better.I'm trying to figure out how to describe what it does to wine, but it's not the same thing with each wine. I can say we've tried it with a handful of wines now and each one has been improved, some by a great measure, some by small, but noticeable, leaps. This has saved us money, too. Not only are we not throwing out wines after one taste (really need to get to some more wine tastings!), but we no longer have to drink an entire bottle at a time. We have not found a wine we like after it's been opened, re-corked and sitting around even as little as one day. So having wine with dinner meant we had to have 2 hefty glasses each throughout the evening, more than either of us wanted, or tossing some wine down the drain. This carafe has allowed us to have one glass of wine with dinner, and come back over the next FEW DAYS and have more that tastes just like it did the first day!If you aren't sold yet, let me just add that the carafe is pretty too. And easy to use. 5I loved this thing...until it sucked. I loved this thing...until I didn't. I don't usually write reviews but now I feel like I have to. My wife bought me this carafe last year as a gift and it served us well all year - it aerated the wine well and we never had a problem with it, I loved it. Unfortunately I dropped it last week and broke it, my fault, so I ordered another. Coincidentally, my wife ordered a replacement as well; she liked it that much, too, and didn't think I would get on it quickly enough, I guess, but we wound up ordering two replacements. The top on the first new one did not fit well, it was loose, so when you inverted it, the wine squirted out of the junction of the cap and the wine bottle making a huge mess. The one my wife ordered was an extra/duplicate which we figured we would just send back. After the replacement I ordered failed, we tried the second one instead of returning it. The result was the same, the fit of the cap and the carafe was poor, except this time when the seal between the two failed, the wine bottle and carafe fell over, shattering the carafe and sending broken glass all over the counter top we prepare food on, and the floor, and the sink, etc. After seeing the broken glass, it seemed thinner than the first carafe but I didn't measure the two.No one bumped the bottle/carafe, it fell over on it's own. We used the previous carafe for a year on many bottles of wine with no incident - we loved the earlier product, it worked very well and there was never an issue with the seal. Both of the newer carafes failed at the same point, the seal between the bottle and the cap of the carafe. When you use it, a small amount of positive pressure is built up when you first push the carafe onto the open wine bottle; if the seal is good, it isn't an issue but if the seal between the cap and the carafe is poor, now the pressure will send the wine squirting out. The first time it just made a mess but I was right there and caught it, the second NEW carafe fell over and broke creating a huge and dangerous issue with the broken glass.I don't know why the first carafe we used worked so incredibly well and the next TWO were such crap. If it was just one failure I could chalk it up to an anomaly but with two failures, same exact issue, I think they have a production issue. The cap has to fit tightly into the carafe or else the whole principle simply doesn't work, turning a great product into a huge liability - we had broken glass everywhere, not to mention the cost of the $20 bottle of wine wasted. After loving the first carafe so much and then having such a huge issue with the next - not just one but TWO - carafes, I would not recommend this product at all. If you get it, use it in the sink and hold onto it the whole time and do NOT use it around food you don't want to pick broken glass out of. For us it went from a great product to a dangerous one. I will request a refund of both, not a replacement - I should ask for a replacement bottle of wine, too.... 1Destroyed a good bottle of Cab Whatever they used to impregnate the rubber part you place the bottle on, is what my bottle of expensive cab tasted like and there's no way to clean the taste off that part. It is quite disgusting unless you like the taste of dried rubber in your wine. 1Wonderful decanter i have bought three of these and I love them! The first one I accidentally broke, the second was unfortunately lost to the ex, and now I have my own third one. The first time I saw this decanter was at a tasting room in Malibu. I thought it was so cool that they were able to decant a bottle for me and return the wine back to the original bottle for me to take to our dinner that we would be having next door! It essentially decanted it twice and we were able to still show the bottle of wine for our guests to read the label. You cannot go wrong with this decanter! 5BEWARE glass will explode. it's a great party trick - ... I love the design and it's a great party trick - a lot of fun to watch the wine bubbling back into the bottle. I was totally sold on the carafe until IT EXPLODED while inverted. Luckily, nobody was hurt, but I did lose a good bottle of wine and a platter of prime rib. The only thing I can think of - I had a platter of meat resting on the counter next to the carafe, but seriously - one would think it's common to have a carafe of wine next to a platter of meat. Be careful! The wine, and glass just went everywhere in my kitchen. We were stunned - later, I was upset that i had lost the carafe, the wine, and our entire dinner.Note: I tried contacting the company - both via an email from their website AND a facebook message. I have received no response or update. Apparently, they want to sell their products, but not stand behind them. 1
