Being somewhat of a cheap nerd, I compared wet chemical vs. other kits for determining soil pH, N, P and K. before buying this one. I found this kit easy to use, but perhaps some people will feel overwhelmed by the number of steps that need to be gone through in order to get the readings. Basically, you dig down a couple of inches into the soil you want to test. In this case, it was a bare spot in my lawn. You put various soil fractions in test tubes, add a reagent, shake (and filter in some cases - which the kit makes easy to do), and compare to a color chart. The results came back with what I suspected was the problem - much to acidic a soil and one depleted in N. I took the results and used the inclued chart, bought some fast-acting lime, N and other stuff to kill moss, and applied it to the lawn. So far so good! I am very pleased. The photo shows the test for Nitrogen.4
