Customer Reviews

Sturdy and well designed This is a well built and sturdy tool. The ratcheting design and long handles provide good leverage and make crimping the ears on the clamps much easier than the more basic pinching type tool.It should be noted that although this is labeled a PEX cinch crimping tool (and includes clamps that work with 1/2"and 3/4" PEX tubing) but it will also work with stepless ear clamps 9mm to 25mm in diameter that can be used in other applications air hoses, garden hoses, etc. 5Why crimp when you can cinch? Tool came properly adjusted and working great. Other than the fact that the cinch clamps are slightly more expensive, I can't see why you would go with a crimper. The cinch tool has several advantages.1. If the tools is adjusted correctly - it just works - you don't have to check each connection2. It fits into tighter spaces3. The cinch clamps are easy to remove 5Must have if you have PEX plumbing This is a great item. I find the clamp rings are easier to use then the copper "crimp" rings. The "crimp" rings require a little practice to get to crimp correctly and are almost impossible to use in a tight space. These clamp rings are much easier to use. This tool is well built and the ratcheting mechanism makes it easy to clamp the rings on. The "crimp" tools require a lot of force to crimp but this clamp tool does not.I bought the 3/8 clamps at a local orange big box store.PEX plumbing is much easier to use then copper. My house has the pex pipe running directly to the faucets and toilets. It has no shut off valve at the fixture. If I had a leak I would have to run to the garage to turn off the water. I installed shut off valves at all the fixtures using this tool.Anyone looking to do this you will most likely have 3/8 pex running to you fixture. The only place you can find a valve with 3/8 pex barb is the online orange store. I got a six pack and added a shut off valve to all my fixtures. Each one took about thirty seconds with no leaks. Great tool to have if you have pex plumbing. Comes packaged like it is a fancy electronic device. 5Will NOT work with Zurn (ACE Hardware) clamps. First, if you're buying this product, it's important to keep this in mind:This uses PINCH-STYLE pex clamps, NOT the SMOOTH RINGS!A lot of people complained that setting this up is tricky, but it worked well for me right out of the box.The tool is well-made, and well-packaged.I'd love to go ahead and give this 5 stars, but here's the problem...I originally got the claps for this a Home Depot in town, but I was one clamp short, and ran to my local ACE hardware for some more. BIG MISTAKE! Where HD carried SharkBite brand clamps, ACE carries Zurn brand. These were too wide to fit into this tool!(I had to file one down to even get by.)THIS DOES NOT WORK WITH ZURN BRAND CLAMPS!!!So, if you know that and you have another store nearby, this is a great product. If all you have is ACE hardware, forget it, man! 4The tool failing may be a fluke, but questionable customer service (To be clear: I kept this tool in its original box for 8 months until I was able to start the project I needed it for. I did check the calibration before using. ) However, on the second clamp it bound and did not want to release. I was able to get the tool off, but stopped my project and contacted Amazon. Since it had been awhile, I was directed to the manufacturer, whom I contacted. They advised "Since your order is over 1 year, and our warranty period is normally 6-12 months." which was incorrect as my order was not over a year ago, but I do agree that if the warranty is 6 months that I am outside the period. What concerns me the most was the other claim made in their response-"As we all know, if one tool didn't be used so often, parts of it would be accelerate aging which makes it broken or something else."Since this tool is all metal, except the handles, I want to know what kind of metal that they use where sitting in the box for 6 months would cause it to fail.To sum up. - Do not expect customer service to make sense. (I recognize that it may be an error in translation.) - Test your tool immediately, in case you get a bad one. 1Perfect for my needs and at a reasonable price I am "building" a Whole House Water treating system and "went back and forth" between going from a PEX main to a CPVC set up to a full PEX set up. I then "went back and forth" between going copper crimp rings and stainless cinch rings. After MUCH research and personal experience, I (comfortably) decided on the stainless steel cinch rings and more specifically, this tool... A much better value then a copper ring crimping tool set . Secondly, it is easier to remove the stainless steel rings if one needs to. In what I am doing, I primarily am working with 1" piping and a little 1/2".This tool is a good quality for the price. I like the ratcheting feature. I have read some reviews about working 1" inch send out does not concern me. The tool looks heavy enough to manage it.While I have not used it as of this review, I am very pleased with the quality and price of this tool..UPDATE : I FINALLY got to use it. I am currently using on all 1" (Sharkbite Brand) rings/clamps with no issues. (No tool twisting etc.) I can see where some folks may have issues on 1" trying to clamp, but begin a maintenance proffessional, I would say it is normal. One just needs to get into a good position to leverage ones strength. One can also use physics by putting two 1" X 1 foot PEX pieces (or similar) over the handles extending ones leverage. Made it much easier. I did most of mine without "the help"... Worked great... 5Must have for installing PEX Clamps! This ratchet cinch tool is a hand saver. I had a non-ratcheting crimper that was useful for automotive connectors that I think were aluminum, but strained to crimp stainless steel pex clamps, it was doable, but not easily. This tool cinches down clamps with ease, and releases when the crimp is complete. If you are installing any amount of PEX clamps in your home, I highly recommend this tool. I am not sure how well the tool would hold up to professional use day in and day out, but for the occasional use around the home I have no problem trusting that this tool will last for many years to come. 5Great for 3/4" or smaller - not so much for 1" I purchased this tool for a home project as this style is cheaper then the regular copper ring style crimpers, and you can also get it in tighter areas, and the one tool and head handles everything up to 1 inch cinch clamps. The tool came with a go/no-go gauge, and was factory set within specs ready to go. It works awesome on everything up to 3/4-inch rings. Easy to compress the handles, smooth operation, and nice solid leak-free crimps. My only complaint with this tool is that, while advertised to handle 1 inch pipe, that is really a bit too much for them in reality. I did manage to do five 1-inch connections, but it was a real pain. It required tons of force, which is some tight spaces took about all the muscle I had to get it closed. While clamping down on the 1-inchers, you can feel and see the handles flexing under the load - just a bit too much for them. I would worry that too many 1-inch crimps would quickly ruin the tool, but would build some awesome muscles in your arms! If you are doing 3/4" or below, I can fully recommend this tool. If you will be doing a lot of 1", get something stronger and longer. 4Worked great for me. First time use of PEX during replacement of frost free sillcock. The frostfree sillcock for my front yard needed to be replaced after 20+ years of use. Washer was bad, and the rusty screwhead holding it broke. Minerals in our local water are hard on plumbing parts. Better to replace than repair.Noticed that new sillcocks aren't exactly the same length as the existing. The best quality sillcock I could find was 3/8" shorter than the one I was replacing. I remembered replacing the front yard sillcock once before. Remembered dry fitting copper fittings and various short lengths of 1/2 inch copper until the connection between the sillcock and the 1/2 inch copper supply pipe was just right. Then sweating the joints. Hmmm. Did not want to spend my Saturday morning repeatedly cutting small lengths of copper pipe until I got just the perfect little piece that worked.Read up on PEX and decide snipping off little lengths of PEX would be a lot faster. And would simplify any future sillcock replacement.Access to pipes through garage wall was easy. Desoldered the necessary copper joints and removed old fittings. Then sweated in a new 1/2 inch copper to 1/2 inch PEX adapter to supplying pipe. Then tightened a 1/2" female copper to 1/2" PEX adapter to end of new sillcock. Measured, cut and test fitted PEX pipe to fit. Need a few tries, but easy to snip with a PEX cutting tool, and PEX is cheap. Slid on a couple of 1/2 inch Sharkbite clamps, used this clamping tool to tighten, and voila, job done.Couldn't understand why the big box stores charge $40+ for tools to cinch PEX clamps. Glad I found this item only. It worked great. Fast, easy, no leaks. 5Perfection. This was incredible. I've soldered pipe for years, and never had a leak, it took a while but it worked. Replumbed my in-laws lake cabin with pex after gutting all the old galvanized piping in a day with this - the only leaks I had were 2 fittings i forgot to crimp, and 2 bad solder joints in the copper that already existed - definitely won't be going back to copper!I agonized over the crimp vs cinch, and I'm glad i went cinch - easier to remove if you make a mistake, and you can use the same (much cheaper) tool for almost any size pipe! 5
