Still good, but worse than older model
I probably have over 100 clamps for woodworking and am always look to get more. I bought these since my two favorite brands of quick clamps are Irwin and DeWalt. I've only used them a few times so far but my overall impression is basically what I expected. These clamps are great general purpose light duty clamps. I think the build quality is pretty high and the operation is smooth. I will say that they seem slightly lower quality than the exact same clamp purchase a year or so ago. The some of the plastic moldings are slightly different and the pad color changed. Again, it's a small difference.Overall I would buy again.
4A DIY's perfect clamp set!!
Glad I went with the set! It is so handy having 4 for clamping down any project! Sealing or cutting it does the trick! I am so impressed with the quality and the ease of use! Even my arthritic weak hands can easily tighten or loosen them unlike a traditional C clamp or the spring type (which I personally think are evil). This is the perfect size for most home improvement projects! I just need to buy another set.
5Very good clamp, great value for the price.
These work well and are great for the price. I had previously purchased 2 DeWalt clamps, and I think I like those a little bit better. That being said these do work very well. While I like the other clamps better, these clamps definitely provide more value for the price. I would certainly purchase these again.
5They perform good but not great
A solid go-to in my shop. They perform good but not great. The clamping force is adequate but the plastic covers fall off easily to expose mechanical parts that are only press fit inside. If you squeeze the handle with any sort of side load it will twist itself apart. I have owned and used these extensively for a little over a year (as a hobbyist woodworker) and I continue to reach for them so they cant be that bad!
4Typical clamps for typical medium/small clamping
Use these to clamp straight edge for circular saw cutting of plywood, etc. Holds 2x4's & such for nail/screwing. These are a MUST have for solo projects where holding things in place when an extra set of hands are needed. Also, let these things be your hands in dangerous areas & where precision is needed. These are definitely the right tool for typical home owners for weekend projects. I have 2 sets of these, & sets of 3 footers & even tiny 6" set for delicate projects like school projects for the kids, etc. Great buy... & I shopped... these are the best price for the product compared to lowes/HD & other online retailers.
5Poor quality control; didn't get fully assembled or all the parts. Updated 3/26/2019.
I took the package apart, but 2 of the 4 didn't have the stationary piece anchored. And the nuts for the 2 bolts were not there; the 2 screws fell out. So now I can't use 2 of them. I was getting them since I bought an equivalent Harbor Freight item and figured the Irwin brand items would be better quality. But I was way wrong. The Irwin items are much lighter weight, AND they come without all the pieces. Stay away from these and go to HF!Update: Shortly after the review, Irwin contacted me to address this. They wanted my address so they could send a replacement. I responded that they could just send me the 2 bolt/nut sets, but they sent a replacement set anyway. Oh well, that was easier than fiddling with the hardware, and I have more than 4 working clamps, so great customer service. But why not just do it right the first time?
4Very easy to manage - hold the piece with one hand and clamp (or release) with the other!
I have been a woodworker for over 30 years and these are some of the easiest clamps to handle, versatile, easy to both clamp and release. One can never have too many clamps and of various sizes. Great Price - fast shipping. It just doesn't get any better than this! Even the small ones have plenty of strength.
5uh, they're okay...
...so, i realized they would be on the smaller size...but, didn't realize they would be micro. I am building my collection of tools back up bit by bit...but, the immediate reason I purchased these clamps were for two different projects. 1. Gluing a cutting-board back together. 2. Grinding metal parts for a table (holding the parts in place - have yet to attempt). These clamps were not even big enough to fit the whole cutting-board within the clamps... a standard-smaller size cutting board did not fit. They work okay...so, I'm not going to return them...but, seem a bit cheaply built and really... make SURE that you realize the size of clamp you're purchasing before you do.
3- lightweight - work on small projects - cheap - nice rubber cushioning ( doesn't leave dents on material) - ...
Pros:- lightweight- work on small projects- cheap- nice rubber cushioning ( doesn't leave dents on material)- "go-too" clamp for fast clampingCons:- wears down after 1 year (doesn't clamp as tighly after 1 year)- couple of screws break over time due to pressure- weaker than other clampsI had these mini clamps for about a little over a year and they tend to break or not clamp down hard enough. When I try to clamp wood together, sometimes it clamps down but sometimes the clamp slides back into place and when I see it tomorrow morning, the clamps would be loose. It would be loose depending on the different types of materials I'm working with, but I have trouble clamping things down as tight. This is good for small projects and is portable unlike the big heavy metal clamps. I wouldn't recommend this if your're a hardcore woodworker, but if you're a student, this would be handy in clamping small parts and projects. If you want to make wooden furnitures, I prefer the metal clamps with the screws at the bottom.
3Your quest for great clampage begins here
Most things in life are sweeter when it was a challenge to acquire it. A well-fought victory makes the rewards all that much better. These clamps are no exception. Your great clamp adventure begins and ends with the industrial strength, tamper-proof packaging in which they arrive. You will need a case cutter, sharp knife, or power tools to get through this packaging and to the clamps that lie, tantalizingly visible, inside. I've experienced difficult packaging before, but this stuff is a whole other level. Usually you can wedge it part way open and then tear the seam apart. That's not happening here unless you work for a fire department and have access to a Jaws of Life. So the only way of getting through it is to cut, which is difficult because of the irregular shape and the toughness of the plastic. Your odds of cutting yourself, either with your knife or with the plastic itself, is virtually 100%. But when you return from the emergency room, hopefully you can finish up the job and pry the clamps free without further injury. The clamps themselves work great. The "mini" size is a bit misleading, as these aren't actually all that small. If you're looking for the really small bar clamps, you want the Irwin "Micro" sized ones.
