Customer Reviews

Nice updated virtual walls - Sleek/modern looking and is discreet against walls in the house Works well with my Roomba 650. Much sleeker than the original walls (the big bulky white ones from a few years ago) and the updated walls that were a bit longer. These are very small and discreet, and aren't noticeable against a wall. They also look really high tech, and have a glowing light when the battery runs low.One really nice addition is the halo mode, which seems to work really well. When the virtual wall is set to halo mode, the virtual wall prevents the Roomba from accessing about a 2 foot circle. I noticed a few reviews on here said the halo mode was a little flaky, but I haven't had a single issue since setting these up. We use the halo mode to prevent one corner of the living room from being accessed, where the roomba would normally get stuck under the couch. Now we can run the Roomba and not think about it.I wish that iRobot would bring back the lighthouse functionality for multi-room support. It seems like they removed this feature from the virtual walls. Other than that, this product is a really great addition for roomba owners. 4Keeps E-Sweepio away from the pet food dishes If you own a Roomba and have pets, you'll almost certainly want at least one of these. We use the virtual wall that was included with the Roomba for doorways but we have pets and have water dishes and food bowls that we don't want E-Sweepio (that's what we named our Roomba) to mow over when doing the daily vacuuming. It isn't that he would try to climb over a bowl, but like most obstacles, he nudges them a few times to try and get around them and the nudge is powerful enough to spill water from the dish all over himself and the floor, which is not a healthy thing for him. So one mode on this virtual wall makes kind of half circle of about 4 feet around the pet food dishes when placed against the wall behind them. This is called the Halo mode. The other mode creates a virtual wall for doorways or areas you want to block off. But this one reaches about 10 foot openings for wider doorways, where the one that came with E-Sweepio only reaches about 7 feet. It runs on batteries so I try to remember to turn it off when it isn't being used. This virtual wall doesn't work with Bot Cousteau, our iRobot Braava jet 240 Mopping Robot. But he doesn't nudge the pet dishes forcefully enough to spill things and even if he did spill some water it wouldn't hurt him. 5Keeps iRobot out of Trouble! A must for the iRobot! We love our two iRobots. But our versions just run around (as someone noted) bumping into things like a "drunken sailor." (No insult intended to our maritime friends). We've solved a number of problems buy purchasing these little guys. There are two settings for different applications. One draws a "do-not-cross" like for about 10 feet. The other setting draws a semi-circle area where the vacuum doesn't enter. Perfect for keeping the vacuum out of trouble, getting hung up and not returning to its charging station. 5A magical barrier only robots can see! Poor Steve does not like the Virtual Wall. He does not like it at all. Every day he builds up his courage, pacing back and forth while slowly making his way to where the Virtual Wall stands guard. He builds up a full head of steam, heads towards the Forbidden Doorway, then at the last second turns away in cowardly shame. He tries to act like it doesn't bother him -- vacuuming the rest of the room like nothing happened -- but I can tell it does.Poor Steve. 5So far so good! I've only had these for a week, and in that time I have been putting them to good use. They take a little getting used to as the invisible barrier seems to be wider than I expected it would be. I envisioned a distinct thin line, but instead it seems to be about 6" (to 8") closer than where it would seem like it should be based on the direction that it's facing. So it's not quite a "set it and forget it" process, I have to watch it for awhile and make the adjustments needed. Also, twice, one of the units has decided on its own that it is set as a radius barrier instead of the straight line, even though I clearly have the switch set in the straight line position. When this has happened, I have just turned the switch to the radius position and then back to the straight line position and that has corrected the problem. Again, not quite a "set it and forget it". However, for the most part they are truly great. They are small enough that I can tuck them out of the way so that even my husband doesn't accidentally disturb them. They seem to reach all of the advertised 10 ft, which is perfect for my needs. Something worth mentioning, they use two AA batteries each. The batteries are included and they are not your cheap no name batteries, they are actual Duracell (Coppertop) batteries! I was impressed. 4I love my iRobot and these wall barriers work super great I love my iRobot and these wall barriers work super great! I started out with 1 and I now have 5 and I use all of them. I especially like having 2 for my drapes. I dust mop under my drapes and then turn on the wall barrier along side of each window so that I am able to keep the vacuum from rubbing up against my drapes. Works supper! The iRobot works great and saves me a lot of work. No more dust bunnies! 5This is probably a "must have" if you have a Roomba We love our Roomba. She dutifully vacuums our floors daily. However, she gets caught on "problem areas", such as electrical cords, HVAC registers and in a few areas where the height of Roomba is a bit higher than the available clearance. As a result, I usually have to rescue Roomba from several of these sites during a typical cleaning cycle.I have purchased one of these units to communicate one of the "no, no" sites, and have purchased another for one of the other problem areas that it has encountered. The problem is that the cleaning pattern for our Roomba has at least four such sites, which adds considerably to the cost of the overall vacuum system. I therefore have downgraded the "value", wishing that these accessories were available for no more than half the paid price.Note to self: When purchasing a Roomba, be prepared to either be disappointed, or expect to pay a chunk for the devices that will actually make the overall experience work.(I've rated battery life 5 stars, without having the experience of several month's use. The instructions promise about 9 months of life for the battery. If that's accurate, I'll be happy. Batteries are cheap and easy to replace.) 5If you have an open floor plan, you need these! For a large open floor plan house, several of these virtual walls is a must. I have large openings for my rooms, and the virtual walls don't reach far enough to keep the Roomba out of most of my rooms, but I discovered that I can put one on one side of the opening and another on the opposite side, and they each block about 6' of the openings. I believe that by breaking up a big space with the virtual walls it makes the Roomba vacuum more efficiently than trying to do a large area. 5If You Have A Roomba You Need Virtual Walls | Works with e5 Roomba's My Roomba e5 did not come with virtual walls because I purchased it from Sam s Club, which saved us $100. As a result, I purchased virtual walls from Amazon and saved $30. It s just being smart with money because it quickly adds up. Anyway, this is advertised to be compatible with Roomba 500/600/700/800/900, but I can personally attest that this works with the e5 Roomba too. These virtual walls are super-small and hardly noticeable. They run on two AAA batteries per unit. They have two settings. The first setting projects a 10 IR beam in a straight light line. This is good for doorways. The second setting produces a 4 circular IR beam around the unit. This can be useful if you have pets. If you do not want the Roomba running into your pets food and water bowls; simply put the virtual wall into the second setting that produces a round IR beam and place it in between both bowls and the Roomba will not come near bowls. If you have a Roomba you need virtual walls, even if you think you don't need them, you do. You will find a use for them. Sure you can build you own virtual walls for about $8 in parts, but you also need to be technically included to perform basic PCB work and have a tool that costs about $55 to code the software you write to two chips not a big deal, but for a one time use, it doesn t make sense. If you don't understand this, don't worry. All you need to know is that these virtual walls are a good deal at this price. If you don't believe me, just look at the Roomba website. You ll be back to purchase them from Amazon like me. 5Invisible Wall to keep Roomba where you want it These towers are easier to use than the one that came with Roomba. I've only used these to keep Roomba in one room, not in halo mode. However, they work great to keep roomba confined to one part of the house. These use AA batteries, the one that came with Roomba uses C batteries. I will be purchasing more so we don't have to use expensive C cells. 5
