Do not stain this! I bought this chest to store bedding that is used occasionally - big mistake! I stained it then put a coat of polyurethane on it - it left an oily coating even after two coats of polyurethane rendering the chest useless to me. So if you are thinking of buying this PAINT IT! I have never in all the years of buying unfinished furniture have I ever had this happen. 2Not perfect, but a good purchase I am submitting the same review for both the 29" and the 47" storagechests. They are exactly the same design and construction except for thelength of the left-to-right pieces.Both chests arrived on time and in good condition. All the parts werethere. They were easy to assemble. The only problem is with lid of the47" chest. Either it is warped, or the holes for mounting the hinges arenot quite in the correct place. When closed, the left side of this lidsits about one half-inch off the stop on which it should rest. You reallydon't notice it until you sit on it. Then you get a "clunk" as it makescontact with the stop. 4Be sure to check for flaws before finishing! This was the third chest we purchased to put together for each of our grandchildren. The first one was wonderful and had no flaws. The second one had a crack in the wood, fortunately in an inconspicuous spot and because we often work with wood were able to fix it. The third one had two broken dowel pins which we had to remove and replace. If a person plans to stain and finish the wood it does finish very nicely but I recommend making sure to sand down really well first to remove any residual oils and glue, We are happy with the end result of all three, just wish we didn't have to fix them first. 4Real disappointment I was disappointed to see the back panel cracked and when attaching the lid in pre-drilled back panel, the original crack got larger. Also, one of the hinges arrived with part of it broken off. Then the bottom is made out of flimsy plywood...about 2cm thick...not solid wood on the bottom or back! So in the end, it seems like they really cut corners and didn t properly inspect this before shipping it out. 2I love this item I love this item! I stained it a light walnut color. We are currently using it for a toy box, and it is great. It is roomy, sturdy, and good looking. When the little grows out of the toy box stage, I am excited to transition this piece into another room. I haven't decided its next purpose, but it will be with us in some fashion; either in the entryway with a cushion or in a bedroom for linen storage.Seriously you guys. I wish I would have found this company earlier. I have ordered three pieces from them that I absolutely love and can't wait to add to my collection! 5Bottom not sturdy look elsewhere The bottom is a wimpy little sheet that will most def not withstand a toddler and infant tossing toys ans playing. However the board came in broken and doesnt even fit into the slide in guides for it.. so i now own a bottomless chest :/ 3High price but great quality The quality is great and it wasn t hard to put together. Soft close is great for the baby s toy box. Size is perfect. Had to get a toybox that would fit my decal so this was great. The price is high but I m very happy with it. 4Excellent customer service - Great storage box! This is a very nice toy chest. When it arrived I was upset to find the box had been torn open and the package with all the hardware in it was missing. I called the number on the instruction booklet and they mailed me the replacements that day - I had them withing 3 working days! We assembled the chest and my husband stained it. It is beautiful. The safety hinges work great so I don't have to worry about my grandson getting his fingers smashed. Then you get a "clunk" as it makescontact with the stop. 4Perfect shoe box We got this for shoes by our back door. It is sturdy and well thought out in it's construction. One person can do all assembly easily except mounting the lid. I did it alone but an extra set of hands would have helped. A little boiled linseed oil for waterproofing and finish and it looks great and has resisted dog paws, water, dirt and stain. We have it at a window by the door and it has also become the dog's perch to wait for Mommy in the evening. A good value, a good size and quickly delivered. 5
