    Best tasting espresso of the coffee pod lines Illy coffee pod machines taste much better than Keurig or Nespresso. The X9 machine looks elegant and functions great. You'll need to test out the settings to get it to where you want by holding down the button until you have the desired amount in your cup. It's great for espresso or "Americano" style pours of up to around 4 ounces. Anything more than that gets pretty diluted but that's the same across all coffee pod machines. 5Our newlywed love Illy coffee /expresso as we do This was a wedding gift and the report from ourBride and groom was great coffee/espresso 5Ristretto as delicious as that at Augustus in Napoli and Amo in Fondaco dei Tedeschi in Venice I got rid of my Capresso burr grinder and the Nespresso machine. Still keeping a moka -just in case...The X9 is stupendous!!! 5Five Stars Excellent 5Easy to use! Great espresso!! Less clean up with the pods. 5For lovers of stone cold coffee Would be a great stylish coffee machine IF the coffee was ever hot but it s always cold 1iPerEspresso: the best capsule system for espresso lovers... & the X9 is a top notch machine Let me start by saying that I was a long-time Nespresso customer, but recently made the switch to Illy iPerEspresso. The iPerEspresso capsules and FrancisFrancis machines produce a far superior espresso shot than the Nespresso machines are capable of, for multiple reasons...1) more coffee per capsule: Illy capsules contain 7 grams of coffee, while Nespresso uses a scant 5 grams... which might not seem like much of a difference difference at first glance, but that s actually 40% more coffee per shot in the Illy capsules, which *is* a big difference in terms of shot quality, richness, and taste2) less water per shot: Illy s machines are preprogrammed for 1 ounce shots, while Nespresso s are 1.35 ounces, so combined with the differences in the amount of coffee in each, this actually results in far richer and tastier espresso shots from the Illy.3) illy let s the physics of the extraction process create a natural crema, while Nespresso s system are engineered to produce an enhanced crema. As a result, the crema on the Illy shots looks and tastes just like that on a an espresso from a regular machine, because it *is* just like that on a regular machine, while there is an observable difference in the crema on a Nespresso shot.Bottom line: the espressos I get from this machine are far superior shots, to anything that any of my Nespresso machines that I ve owned have ever produced. 5Ristretto size shots on espresso pull 1st use today, initial notes: steaming hot. Ristretto size shots 15ml on the espresso pull. Lungo shots close to 30ml. Front access to water tank is great. Purchased because Illy dark roast is a favorite, x9 is a convenient alternative to full espresso machine. Good combo with clouduccino frother. Update: needs a run through first, otherwise not hot, not sure how this will play out in needing multiple shots in a row :/ 4Illy Perespesso The only good attribute of this machine is that it allows you to enjoy Illy coffee. It's not as sophisticated as Nespresso machines but the coffee is the best. 3Low Volume- $$$ Pods I don t recommend this machine if you want to make a lungo or more Americano size coffee. It s great for espresso, but be warned, even that setting produces a small half demitasse. My husband got me this so that I could make both espresso and americano lungo cup of coffee, - and I like illy flavor since we went to Italy. But the lungo setting makes what I d consider a double espresso size, at best. I d think it was malfunctioning, but the stream seems good, it just produces very low volume, IMO. And the machine will, somehow, not allow you to do a second run through the pod. Hey, I was desperate for a decent size cup. The controls actually wouldn t respond unless I changed the pod. Uh, ok, Alexa... don t control me! I just used TWO lungo pods to make half a cup of coffee. They re expensive, and the reviews I ve read for using generic self fillable pods aren t good. I had a Verismo before, that made both a great espresso & tall cup of coffee, w one pod. It eventually leaked, but I ve learned from reading reviews & asking around that using distilled water truly is a must in any machine- that any brand will do this at some point, even using a fridge water filter & descaling. Otherwise, for flavor, it s great. 2
