Five Stars An after market product with no headaches! 5Hydro Life RV water filterThis is an excellent replacement for the under sink filter, it was easy to install, fit perfectly and filters put particulates with no charcoal taste.5Solid filterMake sure that you use plumbers tape and screw in tightly!5Used to be good prior to 2016, new ones crack at inlet and leak I have used these filters for years on our RV. This year when I ordered it, I noticed it looked different. Then I noticed that the thread on the inlet end is cracked so it will leak. I needed one quick so I went to the local camping world and bought another one, when I got home It was also broken in the same spot. So sometime between 2015 and 2016 they changed the design and its now inferior. The new ones say they are made by Camco and the old ones still say they were made by hydro life. Leave it to Camco to make something as cheap as possible. I wouldn't recommend buying one until they fix the issues. 1Five StarsGood price.5Ignore the bad reviews from people who lack basic plumbing skills.This is a great filter, but you need some basic plumbing skills to install it.When you install this filter keep in mind that your not tightening lug nuts on a truck. It uses nylon fittings which only require hand tightening plus an 1/8th of a turn. Leaking nylon fittings are the result of over tightening so continuing to tightening it is not the solution.If you lack the skill to properly tighten 1/2 inch nylon FIP fittings then have a plumber install the quick release kit for you and buy the quick release version of this filter. It simply has o-rings the plug into a holder instead of 1/2 inch FIP threads that you need to tighten.But seriously folks anyone who can tie their shoes in the morning shouldn't have any issue installing this filter.4Very small and weak threaded end on fitting which broke very easily. Could not get unit to seal, tightened until fitting on filter broke off. Close inspection revealed the fittings at each end are just nipples with a much smaller fitting threaded into the filter which presents a weakness. I have a spool piece that can be inserted in place of the filter that permits faucet usage until filter replacement. Put this back on which sealed back perfectly after removing broken and brand new filter. Wasted $38 unless I can find another reducer to replace broken one. This setup could be stronger as there is plenty of room for a larger male connection on filter.Update - 4/3/2017 - Ordered another unit - this time item https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002UC2XZ6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 which uses quick disconnect. First one (yes - I've gone through two of these!) came with broken fittings. Someone who tried to use this unit found that the fittings broke easily. I called Camco and asked customer support rep where I could fine replacement fittings. He told me I couldn't purchase seperately and suggested I return the unit for exchange. I did and the unit I got the other day had a broken fitting, but otherwise looked brand new. The package was sealed so I don't believe it was a return. This time one of the quick disconnects on the filter was broken underneath the sealing rubber o-ring. There was a small plastic ring bouncing around in the box, the end of the fitting. The groove cut in this plastic fitting for the o-ring presents a VERY weak point which clearly will just pop off easily. Box was not damaged so I don't know how it was broken, but close inspection reveals it wouldn't take much to break it.So now I have two of these, one with threaded connectors and one with quick disconnects and both have broken fittings. VERY poor product with VERY poor support. My suggestion is look elsewhere for some other type of filter, perhaps one that uses a more robust filter housing with a replaceable filter insert. 1Sorry. Didn t work at allJust didn t seem to do anything. Have on Motorhome have potable water hose ( from same co.). That gives water a strong hose taste. Filter did nothing to remove taste or odor. So bought a Pur faucet attachment filter and bad taste and smell completely gone. Perfect water. Sooooo, can t give the Camco hose or filter a good review. Will return filter.1Ideal for the RVWith this filter and a second filter (from Walmart) attached to the hose that leads to our RV, we feel confident that our drinking water is pure. Appears Amazon has corrected the photo.This item is Hydro Life #HL-170 TF. The photo shown of this product is incorrect: it is a #3 and has threaded ends and no tube. Fortunately it is what I needed for my rig. It seems to work well at making drinking water taste good and it says it "significantly reduces" many contaminants that a carbon filter doesn't. However, I cannot find any specific data. I even emailed Hydro Life but they never responded.If you are near a Camping World and in their Presidents Club, it is $5 cheaper less any sales tax. It is about $8 cheaper at online RV suppliers but they charge $16 for ground freight. So if you are a Prime member, this is the best deal.4
