Customer Reviews

Adds a whole new dimension of functionality to an already very useful tool. Fits the Instant Pot as advertised and opens up new functionality with that pot- e.g., slow cook simmering and sweating of vegetables prior to adding other ingredients to finish a recipe, etc.As I see it, the locking pressure cooking lid works well if your cooking experience is limited or if you're in a hurry, you hit a button, close the lid and assume it's doing the right thing. When you want to cook more conventionally though, as if you were cooking on a stovetop but with very precise and consistent heat control- sauteing and browning ingredients or sweating vegetables prior to adding liquids or meat and proceeding with the pressure cooking part of a recipe, or if you want to slow cook something without the intense heat and pressure blast of the pressure cooking functionality, this lid opens up a lot of that functionality. I use this to make marinara and bolognese among a lot of other things. To be able to very consistently keep the sauces at a barely perceptible simmer all day long as needed, allows the tomatoes and/ or meat to slowly break down to develop a good consistency but keeps the tomatoes from getting bitter, as happens if you cook too quickly or on too high a heat, and you can remove the lid to stir and check consistency and flavor easily, something you can't do with a pressure cooker. The stainless liner in the Instant Pot is a big part of that as well. I've spent my life cooking on gas as a professional Chef, I really appreciate the consistent heat that I can get using this device when I cook at home and again, this lid opens up a whole new world of functionality beyond merely cooking under pressure. The "simmer" and "saute" buttons, with the 3 intensity levels for each are very, very usable controls. Simmer on the lowest setting will bubble a sauce or "bone broth" almost imperceptibly with the lid on, and saute on the highest setting will rapidly and vigorously boil a sauce (or wine, etc) to quickly reduce, and you have 4 levels between those two to use as well. Lid on, lid off, lid ajar adds even more flexibility. You can do all of that with a conventional pot on a stove, but not with this kind of predictability and temperature control. 5Instant Pot Essential Lately when I make soup, I've been using the Instant Pot saute function for the veggies before adding broth. It really gets in the air so I vent the stove top and open a window. I've been wanting the glass lid for a while and it's not a bad price. We we set it on the pot to see how it fits and at first it seemed loose. We were wondering how well it would actually work. Well, I gave it a go the other night. No need to open a window because the lid really kept everything contained nicely! I was very impressed. In fact, I almost forget I was even sauteing because the lid cut out all the sounds of the food sizzling! It really seemed stable and locked on during use. If you use the saute function on the Instant Pot, definitely get this lid. This and a stainless steel basket for steaming are essential. 5One Star Glass cracked in the dishwasher the first time it was washed. Product guidelines state it's dishwasher safe. 1Makes my pressure cooker a real slow cooker! Oh my gosh!!! My Instant Pot electric pressure cooker now really feels like a slow cooker!! I love the it that I can see inside the slow cooking process now. It fits my 6qt Instant Pot perfectly! It has a small vent, so condensation doesn't overflow and jiggle the top, like my old slow cooker had.VERY well made! 5It's a good product, BUT IT IS HAS FEW USES (read below) So this review is difficult because I bought this thinking I would use it to either slow cook or cover our food while it is sitting. I don't do either. But this product is well made and fits. It also has a small steam release hole in the lid which releases enough steam to keep it from bouncing around from steam build up.SLOW COOKING (NO): My IP doesn't slow cook well at all. Actually, the slow cooking is so slow that it probably takes about half again as much time as when I had a slow cooker (which I got rid of because of the IP). But this is not a problem because I no longer slow cook. I've done it twice since I bought the IP, which was nine months ago, because slow cooking is for people to thaw things out and plan ahead. Not this gal.COVERING IP WHILE WAITING (NO): I use the regular pressure lid for this because it keeps the heat in excellently. If you want to keep your food hot while waiting, use the regular lid. It is more insulated and sealed and therefore better for keeping the heat in your food. I never use the tempered glass lid to cover the food while waiting to eat.COVERING LINER FOR SERVING (YES): I can see this for use if you are taking out your liner and you are serving out of the liner or just setting it aside and want to cover it. But I've never used it this way.COVERING WHILE SAUTEEING (YES): I can see this for use if you need to sautee in your IP for a while or keeping something covered while keeping the heat on in the Instant Pot (I ALMOST used it this way, I turned the sautee back on, after I had thawed the spaghetti sauce I premade, and thought of covering it as I cooked off some of the water, but this was a bad use because I didn't want the water to go back into the pot, I wanted it to cook off). 3LOVE IT! I use this when using my IP DUO 7 in 1 as a slow cooker or pot, not as a pressure cooker. Very convenient, and fits nicely!UPDATE ***For Reviewers who advise the glass lid does not work in "Slow Cook" mode, I say: please consider the model you own, and READ your User Manual. My User Manual is for Models: IP-DUO50 and IPDUO60, copyright 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 Instant Pot Company. On page 14, under the section entitled "Slow Cooking", item number one (1), it states:"Follow steps in the "Cooking Preparation" section of this manual. The steam release handle can be at either "Venting" or "Sealing" positions. An optional glass lid can also be used."I've used the glass lid when using it in "Slow Cooking" mode, and have not had a problem.I own the IP DUO60 7 in 1 model, have used it regularly since 01/2014, and have not had a problem with my food not cooking when I use the glass lid in "Slow Cooker" mode. 5Perfect addition to Instant Pot. Perfect addition to my Instant Pot! Fits great right over inner pot and I can keep an eye on my dishes. I might just add that this lid should be a part of standard package. 5Low quality handle attachment Handle is held on with two rivets, one of the rivets had already let loose by time I received the product. 1This Lid Fits on the Inner Pot and Makes Your Instant Pot SO Much More Versatile! This lid is *wonderful*, and the perfect accessory to the Instant Pot! It fits *on the inner pot*, *not* on the outer shell, and basically allows you to do slow cooking and sauteing and steaming without using the outer 'main' lid, and so that you can see what is going on in there. As others have said, it also allows you to use the inner pot to store the food in the refrigerator once it's cooked, because, again, this clear lid fits on the inner pot. While you can't use the lid while pressure cooking, you can use it to cover and store the inner pot with the food you've pressure-cooked once finished.I agree that it would be awesome if it were included with the Instant Pot, but it is a well-worth-it add-on! If I were going to give the Instant Pot as a gift (and I suspect that some of my family members may have Instant Pots in their future ;~) ) I would absolutely include this lid with the gift. 5Works Great for IP- DUO60 7in1I don't understand the reviews that claimed this glass top didn't work on their instant pot. I just received mine and used it on my instant pot IP DUO60 yesterday and today and had no problems. No error messages and it fit perfectly. The handle was not hot while slow cooking for four hours. This glass lid is made solid and the handle is very sturdy. Glad to have purchased it and worth the money.5Lid fits perfectly... in the BOTTOM! We have a 6 quart Instant Pot and this lid fits perfectly... in the BOTTOM! Evidently, there is much more to determining the size of the lid than simply "6 quart." This should be made REALLY CLEAR in the description, and not require a research project and a return! 1
