    Once you loosen the pins up it's great! As it comes out of the box it is quite stiff in its action - so much so that the metal pins can bend - or scratch the object - when trying to profile something. Lubrication didn't help.The tension is supplied by the two brass-colored caps with dimples on the ends that hold the whole assembly together. By CAREFULLY slipping a screwdriver blade under each end cap, both sides, both ends, and prying up a little at a time, you can adjust the tension so that the pins slide more easily. Be careful you don't pop the end caps off, I imagine you'd have a re-assembly mess on your hands...If you get the pins too loose you can just use pliers to press down the brass cap ends again to restore some tightness. But this won't be a problem if you just go slow and easy. Now I can use this tool to profile guitar necks and anything that is delicate or fragile or subject to scratching, without worrying so much about damaging it. 5My husband is laying vinyl waterproof laminate flooring in the ... I finished off my fireplace where the drywall met the rock. Tough to cut the trim to match without something like this. 5pins are way too stiff the movement of the needles is really stiff. more often than not instead of sliding to ride the profile they splay out sideways when pressure is applied. i'm hoping they loosen up a bit...but very disappointed with out of the package performance. 2Pins bend easily. Fuhgetaboutit! This simple to use gadget isn't as simple as it should be. The pins bend so easily that they don't form sharp corners but bend to form irregular shapes. The idea behind it is good but it doesn't work as accurately as it should. I would not buy another one of these. It does not show square corners. The pins show rounded and slanted corners. Waste of money.Fuhgetaboutit! 2I struggled with this reivew The tool appears pretty well built, not with cheap pins and ridiculously fragile plastic casing. My problem, and the reason for the three stars, is that the whole purpose of this tool is to be able to easily copy a form from one medium to another, but the pins on this tool are SO TIGHT that you have to apply a lot of force to get them to move into shape. If you're copying sheet metal siding for, say, auto body work or using it to match grind patterns in concrete, that's probably fine. But if you're using it to copy shapes in more delicate material, you have to push so danged hard to move the pins into place that you run the risk of marring the source material with pin holes or even pushing the source material out of shape so you don't get a true copy. I sprayed silicone spray on the pins and that helped some, but they're still far too tight. If I had to guess (I intend to test this but haven't yet), I'd have to say it takes a good ten pounds of pressure to push the pins into shape, and that's waaaay too much for a tool of this kind. 3Lame! The needles fall out Lame! The needles fall out, its wonky and you couldn't get an accurate cut from it if your life depended on it. Returned 1Junk. Pins fell out on first use Didn t use for a while after buying. Wish had as the pins just came out as soon as used it. Waste of money had to bin it as too late to send back. Don t buy this junk. 1It's simple to use. Be patient!!! If you are not forcing this tool it works perfect. Its lighter than it looks and is durable. Reset the tools pins to 100% flat before pressing it to your object . If you do this , it forms well to most shapes. 5profile gauge use I'm an architect and involved in the rebuilding of a 130yr old laboratory building. The profile gauge has worked well in cataloging the traditional wood mouldling shapes. It's sturdy, well built and easy to use. 5
