Not the frosted finish in the picture
Picture makes it look like it has a frosted, non-glare finish. Instead, this rule has a polished stainless finish, read, susceptible to glare.Good points: Low Price; Flexible; Scales 1/10 & 1/100 on one side, 32nds & 64ths on the other.;Disappointed, but I will keep it.
3Better than a Starrett
I've been using 6" rulers for 29 years. I've tried them all, but this is my favorite because it is the easiest to read in my opinion. Although not as flexable as a Starrett, it is easier to read. The markings are bolder than on some other brands. The only downside, is that the edges are sharp. I smooth out the edges after I take it out of the package, problem solved.
5Very well-made. There is not metric system on this, though. Just imperial.
Listed as "both a standard ruler and a metric ruler in one".This is not true. There is not metric system on this. Just imperial.Still, it is well-made, so I did not remove any stars. It's 1/32 in thin, and just a hair below half an inch wide, perfect for small packs and kits. One side has 10ths and 100ths inch intervals (the description says 10 and 100 mm intervals which is not correct. No metric on these). The other side has 1/32 and 1/64 inch intervals. Markings are etched on the ruler, not just printed. All edges have been ground down, (not just stamp cut), and are at a 90 degree angle. You can scrape quite effectively with this. No unmarked spaces at beginning and end of ruler. Markings start and end at the very edges. If you want a small steel ruler with imperial system, then this is great, and it should last pretty long.If you want metric, keep looking. Hopefully the description will be corrected.
530 + Years
I have used this model for over 30 years. I have tried others but always came back to the 616. Also have used the 1216 model. Same thing but 12 inch long. I use it when building aircraft. Now I teach students at a college to build aircraft and these two are the only models that we use.
5Excellent Tools, BAD DESCRIPTION !
I have used General Tools products for years and all are well made and good quality as well as value for the money. You will find higher prices and big names, but not better value. That being said I read the description and was mislead by the "metric" reference. Not Generals fault, AMAZON has some responsibility here as this was noted in a review in 2012. I would think that would be enough time to address this sort of oversight. I will definitely read more closely before I buy from Amazon again as it is obvious the descriptions are not accurate nor are they monitored or updated. If I have to go to that much trouble I will just go to a store where I can lay my hands on it and know exactly what I am getting before I purchase. Small cost item that I will not bother to return but I already had 2 and did not need 2 more of the wrong thing.
41/10 scale fine, 1/100 is bad
I like the 1/10 scale, but the 1/100 scale is BAD. The ink over runs the lines and makes it useless. I have an old General 6" metal ruler and the 1/100 lines are perfect.
3Love these thin rules!!
I love these rulers. They are perfect for using to draw straight lines in my bullet journal. They are not too thick that I can see where my pen is on the page, and they aren't too bulky that they get in the way.
5EXCELLENT ruler with measurements that begin at the edge of the ruler
this is a great little ruler. Made of nice material - I think it will last forever. Also - most rulers have a bit of space before they start measuring. This one starts the measurements right at the edge - this is exactly what I needed. You can stand the ruler up and measure the height of something.
5Good but not the same
I've used these types of rules for years and always liked General. Overall the rule seems precise enough. The tick marks are nice and finely etched. They are much finer than my older General rule which helps separate the lines better. The thing that I don't like is that General is using a less springy steel now. The new rule bends easily and stays bent. This isn't an issue if you never bend the rule. But there are quite a few times when I use a 12 inch rule with one end bent to fit around irregular shaped objects. My old General rule can nearly create a complete circle and return to flat. Not so with this new one. Too bad since its flexibility is why I bought another one. It's still a nice product but I wish the steel were better.
4Excellent
Has 0.1" markings, and fractional markings on the other side. Small, good for tight applications and storage.Flexible, yet firm and feels good quality.
