Customer Reviews

HEFTY WELL MADE PUNCH I just received and used this today to do a belt that was a bit big. The holes are round, but they seem to work fine. The punch was not too hard to use, it punched fairly easily for me. I could have gone cheap at Harbor Freight for half the price, but I decided I had enough of "you get what you pay for", so I went with this and I am very happy with it. 5Costs less than half a belt and works great! I recently lost some weight (yay!) and needed to put additional holes in a half dozen belts. This thing did 'em all in about 10 minutes, and it cost less than half what a decent belt costs. Tips: The other reviewer was spot on - use a "sacrificial" piece of denim to save wear and tear on the cutting dies. Put your dot on the front of the belt where you want the hole and slip the fabric under the belt, then put it in the jaw of the tool and make your hole. I got the tool with the oval holes because most of my belts are Western and oval holes work better with big buckles. There were two oval cutting dies - and one worked best going across the belt, which is the one I used. Worked great, saved me the cost of new belts, and I can pass it on to someone else who needs it without looking back. 5FINE PUNCH! UPDATE!!!Thank GOD almighty that Amazon.com gives us the chance to edit/update our reviews, otherwise, I would be a very sad, little girl right now!My deepest ad sincerest apologies to all those that read my previous review(below), wherein I mentioned something about 'starter' and 'finisher' punchers?Well, Guess what?!I decided to clean out the punchers and discovered that there was no such thing as a 'finisher' puncher! The puncher I thought was full of steel was actually stuffed full of punched-out bits! The item sen to me must have been used and returned by a previous buyer. since that was how I met it!Wow! I had to rush over here to make my retraction! If the seller/maker/past buyers had read my comments, they must have wondered which product I was talking about! The 'starter' and 'finisher' idea was not a bad one though, I think.Anyway, I tried punching without my ephemeral 'finisher' and had to punch both sides to get a see-through. Was not so smooth.BUT, there is still a lesson learnt here and that is that by leaving the punched-out bits in the punchers, it gives them more punching power!PHEW!FIRST REVIEWThis is my first time owning a belt-punch, so I was(probably still am) quite the novice to its mechanics. There are six punchers/drills on the wheel and only one has steel up to its brim.I am guessing this is the 'finisher-punchers'?Tried punching holes on one of the belts I got and the 'starter all-plastic-puncher' could not do the job until I applied the 'finisher'.So, I am guessing that, when punching fresh holes, the starters are applied initially according to the diameter of existing holes on the belt, then the finisher to break through. That is how I have used it so far! Also, do not get frustrated when the wheel does not move as you try to use it, you need to loosen(NOT COMPLETELY REMOVE) the lone screw used to hold the hook to the puncher-wheel.And it's plain-sailing from there!I like this product as it is cute and handy not heavy-duty stuff. That's about it! 3Tool is not the same as pictured. It works but not for long. Tool is not the same as pictured. It works but not for long.It has a solid grib, is comfortable and punching on leather goes very smooth and with little effort. However, the tip is plastic (with a little round foil in the center) and not solid brass as pictured in Amazon listing page. Just by punching 3 holes on leather, the tip got a dent, hence with few more holes there may not be a tip anymore. Tool includes an additional tip, but the lifetime of the tool is minimal and to extend it, may be too expensive getting new tips after few pounches (if tips are available). 2I've never been so pleased with a chinese-made tool before I typically don't order any tools that aren't made in the U.S.A. but I didn't have many choices when shopping for a belt hole puncher. The item pictured isn't exactly what I received either, mine had a plastic bar at the bottom to hold the tool closed, not a metal loop that slides over one of the handles (as pictured). That being said, this hole punch has exceeded my expectations. I used it to punch a Galco SB3 Dress Belt (double thickness premium saddle leather rated for carry holsters). The punch went through the belt leather like it wasn't even there... I had to be careful not to squeeze too hard because you can actually damage the tip of the tool if you apply too much pressure. Some things to remember...1. The instructions are on the back of the package. Make sure you read them before you use the punch.2. The wheel on the end of the tool only rotates in 1 direction. There is an arrow on the tool that shows you which way to turn it.3. After you figure out what size you're going to punch, make sure your tip wheel is positively locked into place.4. When you look at your belt, try to see which side it was originally punched from. The entrance hole will be larger and the exit hole will be smaller. Try to punch from the same direction so that the new hole looks identical to the old ones.5. They recommend putting a sacrificial piece of denim over the brass pad of the punch so that when punching, after the punch exits the belt, it hits the denim and not the brass pad with full force.6. When you have everything all lined up, try to grip the tool as far down the handles that you can (farthest away from the wheel end). This will give you the most force when squeezing the handle.6. When you're finished, remove the piece of punched material from the tool with a toothpick, just push it towards the center of the tool and it will fall out.7. When you're all finished, rotate the wheel at the end of the tool so that you are "between tips" and the wheel is NOT locked in place. This will help keep the tips from getting damaged since none of them will be lined up with the brass pad. They won't come into contact with the brass pad during storage. 5Superior I had purchased a pair of eyelet pliers from Harbor Freight but they were almost useless. The simple design generated no additional pressing power. I did some research online and found the EvZ Tools punch and press, ordered it, and threw the other pair in the trash. These are fantastic. The design adds power to your own grip strength so you not only don't have to work so hard, but the eyelets/grommets are fully mushroomed. This is a wonderful tool at a great price. 5Cut 3 layers of 8oz veg tan These are able to cut through 3 layers of 8oz vegetable tanned leather. That is 3/8" or 9.5mm. That is also about its throat size. Ido recommend using a scrap peice to put against the anvil, to get the cleanest cuts and keep the blades sharp. You can use these types of tools to cut in the middle of a sheet, by using it like a hammer driven punch. 5Sturdy. Follow the Instructions to Keep it Sharp Sturdy construction! Used it to punch holes in a belt. Worked beautifully. Don't apprciate that you have to use a screwdriver to change the hole size but for the price I won't complain. I strongly recommend following the instructions and backing whatever you are going to punch with something soft like the punch's cardboard packaging. It goes through thick material and the cardboard backing with little effort and it would be easy to dull the cutting edge by mashing it into the backplate without some sacrifical surface in place. 5Excellent leather punch for the price! I like this tool and I'm reasonably satisfied. I tested it immediately on a leather belt of medium thickness and this tool punched right through it like the proverbial hot knife through butter. I also like the fact that it comes with a spare mat (or disc base) should the first one wear out.PROS: For a Chinese-made tool, it appears to be of exceptional quality. It has good weight, or 'heft' to it that's evident as soon as you pick it up. And the grips are very comfortable and easy on the hands. Last but not least, you can't argue with the price. This hole punch is a steal at under $10 bucks.CONS: Only one....another reviewer (Jason) mentioned his came with instructions. Mine did too, printed on the back. Unfortunately, I can't read Chinese! All in all, this tool was a good purchase and will do what I need it to do. 4Heavy effective tool for average to large hands I lost weight, and my size 40 belts were no longer small enough to hold my pants up. They were nice belts and I did not want to spend the money to go out and buy new belts. I began thinking about punching new holes in my belt and got the idea to look online for a tool. I looked at many hole punching tools and settled on this one. From the moment the Amazon bag arrived at the door with the tool inside, I could tell by the weight that it was solidly built. The package was enough to ship the device and display it properly and it was easy enough to get it free. I read a lot of reviews about how people had a hard time punching their material the first turn on until they figured out to look inside of each hole punch or something and clear it out. Mine was clear.I lined up the proper hole punch to my belt and apply some pressure and it punched. No problem. Very clean and very professional. I did not bother with the ruler or any other things not seen on YouTube. I just use my eye. It did a proper job and I quickly went through all belts at one sitting. I had about eight belts. This tool is Sturdy, robust, and a little on the heavy side. I am a man with what I would say normal size hands. They re not small nor are they freakishly large. The tool self is what I would consider to be long. That means the handle grips do a bit of separating where you grab the grips. This means you re going to need at least average size male hands to properly grip to squeeze to punch the mechanism. I suppose the length is to have enough leverage designed in the product to work as much leverage as possible. It did the trick for me. I would recommend this product. Good punching. 5
