Largest is way too small.....95% useless. The largest hole is waaaay too small and probably won't fit 90% of what you need to open. My mistake coz I didn't bother asking for the specs thinking it's as big as another one I purchased from a hardware store whose largest opening is 3.25" diameter. Wrong I was. 1Opens your wallet, not much else I needed this to do to things, open my Ninja shake maker so I can get strong enough to open pickles, and open pickle jars in the meantime. Sadly, these lids are around 3.75 inches across, possibly a little larger, and this opener doesn't open up wide enough. Small children were also unable to open the pickle jars. Elderly were not available for testing purposes.We tried another size jar which also turned out to be in between sizes and found the opener to be impractical.With no joy derived from this item, it was Kondo'd. 1Easy to use and works on most lid sizes This order was a back up for our year old opener and one as a gift for a friend.I am fortunate, even pushing age 80, I have minimal arthritis and still have a very strong grip.However, the plastic caps on plastic bottles get harder and harder to open. I still have a set of the new vice grips in a kitchen drawer and it hasn't been used since we got this great opener.My wife has arthritis of the hands and with this tool, she can open 95% of bottles/containers.Excellent product at a good price. 5Total Junk In the following paragraph, I've written why this is junk. But first, I'll mentioned that I read EC's review, where he trashes this jar opener, which broke in two when he tried to adjust it over a Costco jar that has a wide lid. He goes on to recommend it for grammy and people with arthritis. I don't know how he arrived at that conclusion, since people with arthritis need more help than people without that crippling affliction, which I have. So, if this piece of junk doesn't work for people with normal hands, don't expect it to work for anyone else. I often search for items that will help me and that can also be adapted for other purposes. After overlooking this particular jar opener numerous times because it reminds me of similar poorly designed models that I've seen at Sears and dollar stores, I decided to give it a test run. It was definitely a bad decision; I should have listened to my intuition.Length 9 1/8". Largest jar opening: a deceptive 3". Smallest opening: a deceptive 1 1/4". I say deceptive because that is what one perceives while the opener is attached to its cardboard retainer. You are also deceived into thinking that the grip is an inch deep when, in truth, it's only 3/8" (less than half an inch) as the inner part of the opening grip loses 5/8" of hold, making it fit unevenly over any jar you try to open, causing slipping and perhaps harm to your hands. In short, it's more than junk. It's a catastrophe!I've read and written enough reviews to know old reviews for a good product could remain at a website long after the manufacturer decides to skimp on quality and produce an inferior model. The retailer or manufacturer's associates, paid reviewers, and friends might also submit reviews that are less than truthful. So, the reader reads an excellent review and ends up with a lousy product. I've seen such deterioration with Fiskars scissors, the Vitality toothbrush, and a Pentel pen. Somehow, I suspect that this jar opener was always terrible.For arthritic hands and in order of preference I've had good results with the following jar openers: the wrench strap style called Power Grip Power Grip Jar Opening System from Handy Trends (2 PACK) As Seen on TV. I bought a small 4" long nameless version of this junky Easi-Twistjar opener at the dollar store that has a single 2 1/2 inch opening and it works very well on small jars. I also use it to turn my entrance doorknob, where it works very well. My third choice is the Zyliss 20780 Zyliss 20780 Strong Boy Handheld Jar Opener, which I had to play with for awhile before I figured out the trick to keep it from slipping. Once I managed to solve that problem, it works as well as the Power Grip. Eventually, I'll buy an electric jar opener and give it a test "drive".I almost forgot the old Gilhoolie twister jar opener Twister Jar Openerwhich I loved when my hands were good; it's an excellent product that has been around for about a century, varied from the original design, but still great for people without arthritis and perhaps those with mild arthritis. Another good product for people with good hands because it still requires a nice manual grip is the Amco Swing Away Amco Swing-A-Way 711BK Comfort Grip Jar Opener, Black. Both the Gilhoolie and the Swing Away are mostly metal.If you're selecting a jar opener for yourself or with someone with a disability, please keep in mind that there are various levels of disabilities; some people are weaker than others, so the best way to find the right product is to give it a test "drive". 1Kitchen magic I am seen many different kinds of jar openers in my lifetime. Unfortunately I have bought quite a few of them because my wife never could open the drawers very easily and I have never found one that I really liked and thought did the job well. That is, until now. This jar opener is like magic. It grips those lids tremendously without a lot of squeezing effort which unfortunately now that I am 70 years old is needed. With The arthritis in my right hand it is very difficult for me to open anything and this jar opener makes it a breeze. I have bought several kinds of bottle and jar openers over the years and I m happy to say that this will be my last purchase. It is by far the best opener I have found!! The design handles different sizes of jar lids with ease and gives leverage to twist the open. The silicon does a good job of gripping the tops too. Very easy to use. 5Cumbersome and a bit awkward So no feeling most of my dominant left hand so needed this... yeah well it s cumbersome to hold, awkward & not real easy to use and pretty much a waste of my money .. 1Not for arthritis sufferers looking to open larger jars The description says Open any Jar or Bottle With Ease and that s inaccurate. It is rigid and difficult to use on larger lids like salsa jars that are already tough to grip with small hands. If you are looking to open larger jars this is not the item for you. For smaller than wide mouth canning jars it works great. It does stretch to open large mouth jars but as an arthritis sufferer and a woman with medium sized hands, it s too rigid to open any jar with an opening larger than 3 inches. I returned mine to order ASIN B00NGMOIX4 which actually will accomodate larger jars without having to use force to stretch it open. 3Buyer beware: This opener is completely useless The inside edges of this opener are a hard, smooth plastic that just slides around the bottle or jar lid with nothing to give it any grip on the lid. I have not been able to use it to open any lid of several different sizes. Most openers have a textured edge or rubber to grip the lid. This one, with the smooth hard plastic is completely useless. Too late to return. 1Pure Junk! This is a total piece of junk! It broke on the first use and I found out it is not eligible for return. This was Amazon's Choice, maybe Amazon should reconsider. 1
