Customer Reviews

Quality Connectors - I'm buying another set I'm reviewing the Dramm 12353 Heavy-Duty Brass Shut-Off Valve and related connectors.Despite the cons, I like this combination of fittings so well that I'm ordering a second set for another hose in a different area of my property.Pros:Heavy dutyQuality connectionsCons:Shut valve is somewhat heavy compared to plastic alternativesHigher price than plastic alternativesThe DGH7 Brass Quick Connect fitting contains a special rubber seal DGHW7 which is pricey online but not locally here.I ordered these 3 items:Dramm 12353 Heavy-Duty Brass Shut-Off ValveDixon DGH7 Brass Quick-Connect Fitting, Garden Hose Complete Set, 200 psi PressureDixon DGH7P Brass Quick-Connect Fitting, Garden Hose Male Plug, 200 psi Pressurehttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HHQAQY/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00835N902/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00835N8VW/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1Details:Some reviewers warn that if you disconnect the male connector from the female quick connect while the hose is still under pressure and without using the shut off valve, you might blow the rubber seal out of the female quick connect. If you lose that rubber seal you can't replace it with a regular hose washer. The special seal DGHW7 can be pricey to buy online. I saw the rubber seal selling for $5.50 each plus $6.51 shipping! Locally, I paid 41 cents each at a local hose and rubber shop so I bought 10 seals! They piggybacked my order on another Dixon order so I paid no shipping costs. The Good News:It's been 18 months and I have not had to replace the special seal. I keep the shut off valve and female quick connect permanently attached to my garden hose outside in South Florida year around. When not in use, I keep a big ziploc bag over the connector tied off with a velcro strap to keep dirt and crud from getting in the connector. Sometimes I spray a little WD40 into the quick connect to make it work a little easier but its probably not necessary. 5Best valve, lasts forever. The best valves, been using these for decades and most of the ones I bought almost 25 years ago are still in use. Just needed one more. Awesome product.Update October 2018: Still 5 stars for these, I would give them more than 5 if I could believe me! Still the best and well worth the price in my mind. You get what you pay for. I called Dramm last month because I had a couple of these where the hose washers had gotten old and loose and fallen out. You can replace those hose washers with other brands, but in my case when they fell out it had allowed the little white plastic washers which are a custom Dramm part that locks the ball valve in place to also fall out and get lost in the tall grass.I wanted to see if I could buy just a few of those washers without buying the entire kit which replaces all the internals and the handle and so on. I was glad they sell a kit with all that, but I didn't need it all. So I called and the representative I spoke with was so nice, she said she would just send me out what I needed at no charge. I got them the other day and was able to fix up those old valves. Wow. I hoped to be able to buy the parts, but getting sent them free of charge is just above and beyond. Now I feel I am in there debt and will have to buy more of their stuff ASAP. Smart company. I am sure they know that is how I will feel!I will continue to buy US made Dramm valves. They have the best product and the best service too. Just tremendous. And it is good to know that if I ever need to buy a kit to replace all the internals I can do that too. Probably the solid brass valve body will outlast me and my wife and our son will inherit them all and be able to rebuild them. I made sure to show him what I was doing and tell him how good Dramm was to me so he would know this is not a disposable product, more of a family heirloom type of thing, the way many things used to be built but very few are now. They even sent detailed instructions to go with the parts. Just a great company all around. 5Stay away from DRAMM Yet another piece of junk frrom DRAMM. Sometimes it would leak from the handle and once after unscrewing it from the hose, the whole ball valve assembly fell out. 1Great Valve, Well Built Great solid brass valve. After a series of Y-valve splitters that failed due to poor construction (and mostly plastic working parts) I switched to this all brass valve in conjunction with LASCO 15-1731 3/4-Inch Brass Garden Hose Wye. The resulting valve is solid brass, leak free and heavy duty, which is exactly what we needed. 5A Monster; The Heavy-Duty Dramm Shut-Off Valve You can't go wrong with this Heavy-Duty Dramm Shut-Off Valve. I purchased to use in conjunction with my pressure washer. I've connected brass quick connects to it so I can simply shut off this valve, and disconnect the hose from the washer with the water still on. Shutting the water off and removing the hose at the pressure washer makes it so much easier to move the washer around. The only issues I have found this far: (1) Shut off handle/assembly may be too loose, so it needs to be adjusted with a wrench to your liking of ease to shut on/off. (2) The handle itself isn't machined too precise, so you might experience slight movement/slack in the handle. (3) As far as the complaint; the internal parts pop out, I've only begun to use this valve, so only time will tell with use. All in all, it's a monster of a shut-off valve. All though a bit pricey, it works as advertised. 4This is a very handy addendum Bought this gadget to go with a pair of sweeper sprayer nozzles. I've never had one before -- in fact, don't think I've even seen them in the local hegemonic home improvement store -- but when I saw it advertised near the sprayer ad on Amazon, thought "ohhhh why not?"I use a hard-spray nozzle to clean the swimming pool in the summer. When you can get into the water with it, NOTHING is more efficient or easier at cleaning the pool's wall than a sweeper sprayer. The only inconvenience has been that when I was done washing down the pool I'd have to get out of the drink and trudge over to the spigot to turn off the sprayer, lest the hose run berserk and conk me on the head. No more! This device lets you shut off the water with a flick of your thumb. Et voila! The lazy girl's approach to pool cleaning: you don't even have to turn off the faucet before moving on to swimming and loafing! 5Key part missing. I ordered two of these valves, which are expensive. One of the valves failed to shut off the water and I only recently discovered why - that valve did not have the steel ball inside that controls water flow. There's no way it could have fallen out so it had to have come from the factory with that part missing. Not happy. 1Not a Heavy Duty Shut-Off Valve - For Light Duty Temporary Shut-Off Only After fewer than 6 months of use the valve began to leak. I contacted Dramm customer service to inquire about the lifetime warranty and was informed that although they would send a repair kit, the valve was not designed for use "as continual shut-off for extended periods of time" or to "be used as a shut off for a water source that is left on". Had this limited and significantly restricted operation been made available in the product description I never would have bought this valve. The company refused to accept its return and provide a refund of this falsely advertised product. 1Support comes in for the win and forced my hand to review So initially I really liked these valves(bought a few) and although I had one fail I am a very happy customer. Heavy solid construction. The six sided hexagon shape makes it easy to tighten on with a wrench. I used:LASCO 15-1731 3/4-Inch Brass Garden Hose Wye:https://www.amazon.com/LASCO-15-1731-4-Inch-Brass-Garden/dp/B008E5CZLKin conjunction with the valves because I wanted to go all brass. I like it too. After winter I gave the valve a twist and surprisingly I twisted the handle off. It felt like it was opening normally till the handle lay dismembered in my hand. I was a little gruff about this as the valves are pretty darn spendy.Soooo I wrote Dramm on their website to get a replacement. Surprisingly I got a response in 1 day."Good morning Andrew,If you can please send me your mailing address, I will mail you a handle repair kit for your Brass Shut-off Valve.Thank you,Amanda "I gave Amanda my address and got the repair kit that same week. It came with great instructions which I didn't really need its so simple. Amanda didn't demand a purchase date, receipt, shipping fees, filling out a form, or sacrificing my first born. Just spectacular customer service.Lastly to all the rookies complaining about leaking you should use some Rectorseal 25790:https://www.amazon.com/Rectorseal-25793-No-5-Pipe-Sealant-1-3-4-Ounce/dp/B008A3U824I put hoses on and leave them on year round and they never leak or fail. The gaskets on this valve will not fail and if they are falling out its because you are using it reverse oriented. Its designed for the male side to face out(threads out). The fact the number one reviewer can't figure this out and has let 7/10 fail astounds me. User error. 5Great shutoff valve Finally a well made shutoff valve. Have been using several of these for a year now and couldn't be happier with the valve. A few things to watch for:- If you remove the valve from the end of a hose watch that the parts inside don't fall out and get lost. The black rubber washer has a tendency to stick to the hose end and it's the only thing holding the white valve ball seat and the valve ball itself in place. I have had to search for these more than once- The lever does stick out a fair bit and can snag. I've got used to it- If you screw the valve onto the hose too tightly the valve may be hard to impossible to turn- Buy this brass one, not the similar looking aluminum body one, if you have hard waterI did manage to break the handle off one of these - the threaded stem broke. Dramm was excellent in responding and shipped out a replacement stem/screw. Re-assemble and its as good as new. They also have complete refurb kits available that contain all the bits except the brass body 5
