Customer Reviews

The extra weight is helpful. You can get the same China made kitchen utensils at the local grocery store for $2-$3. However, Di Oro weighs 12 g, and the green on the left is 9 g. Di Oro has more backbone so to speak, which works perfect for a stiff starter. I make my own sourdough starter, and I normally use a stiff starter that the Di Oro extra weight makes it perfect. I am surprised that I am writing a spatula review, but if you are wandering if the $ is worth it, well it depends on your kitchen needs. It is just a spatula. Both of them are super easy to clean too. 5Not so great as other reviews show The spatula is smaller in size compared to other standard size available in market. I should have looked for dimensions rather than going with the star rating and product prescription as 'Large'. It always has water spots that makes me think twice if it was washed or not. The scraping sides of the spatula is thicker and it is very difficult/not smooth to scraping bowls and corners. Flexible handle edge that makes the product length even smaller (holding space even smaller). I am disappointed thinking the price I spent for this.Date Purchased: Jan 23, 2018Good: It is heat resistant. I used it on cast iron skillet and baking tray took out from 400F. It didn't melt :)Reasons I don't like this product: Small in size, Thick scraping side, Flexible handle edge 3Perfect spatula with just the right amount of spring. This is a perfect spatula! Not too soft, not too hard. It has the right amount of spring for general kitchen tasks where you ll need a silicone spatula. Firm enough to mix things like soft cheeses where you want to integrate other flavors thouroughly, soft enough to get a good scraping of ingredients and avoid waste.Another great feature of this spatula is that it is all one piece. No joints where bacteria can breed in between parts. No parts to fall off. These are important considerations for a spatula. Thanks to America s Test Kitchen for doing all the hard work in finding the perfect spatula! You can find their video on YouTube. 5Great product and great customer service I first heard about this spatula from America's Test Kitchen. I wanted to try it out. Now, for some reason the product we got had a little knick on the side. I wasn't going to complain but the best part about buying this is the great customer service that came with it. They were the ones who messaged me first and offered to send a replacement. For the spatula itself I love how sturdy it is and pliable when I need to really scrape the sides of a mixing bowl. It's not flimsy at all compared to my previous one, a chef'n dual ended spatula (which I still have). It does feel a little heavier than the other spatulas I have in the kitchen but it's not noticeable when I'm using it to mix or stir. I'm starting to use this spatula more and more for my daily use and I absolutely love it! I'm still using the damaged one that I received too and have not noticed the gash growing noticeably bigger.I love the one piece design that it's so easy to clean compared to the others where the head of the spatula can be separated from the body. Dirty water from the dishwasher sometimes gets trapped in between the head and the body or even worse old cookie dough or food if I weren't paying attention. Not with this spatula.I really think this spatula really takes the cake. They have me as a life time customer. 5Perfect stovetop spatula This is the best spatula I have ever owned. It's simply because of the obvious features already listed in the description:1: ALL ONE PIECE. No grooves for food gunk to get stuck in. No places for water to get into the body2: HEAT RESISTANT. Do I know if my other spatulas are heat resistant? Nope. I don't. Do I want to find out by using them to cook in my nonstick pan? Not particularly.3: Doesn't melt in the dishwasher. I realize that again, it says dishwasher safe in the description. But I have other spatulas whose handles warp in the dishwasher. This one holds up.3: It's red. That's my favorite color. I love it.I used to use wooden utensils to cook in my nonstick pans, but this is so much nicer because food sticks to it less and it is easier to clean, ESPECIALLY when making scrambled eggs. This is 100% my go-to utensil for stovetop cooking, and honestly I might get a second one so that there is always one clean to use.And as proof that it works so well, my Mom requested I get her the full set after she tried this one out at my house! 5Can't clear a bowl... I've had Rubbermaid professional high temp spatulas for roughly a decade now. When I first bought mine I loved it so much I bought them for a lot of people. Like everyone I knew who cooked. My dad had some high-end ones he brought back from France which I tried but they were worse in almost every way. Finally after tons of use (I cook 10+ times a week) and certainly some abuse, my 13" scraper broke. I was putting a lot of pressure on it but after inspecting it just seemed like a bad design. So I went back on Cooks Illustrated and saw this one was the updated winner. And so it begins. The biggest highlight for me was that the item was one piece and thus it wouldn't break (at least not at a clear weak point). The fast that it's black concerns me because it's hard to tell if it's staining or dirty but for some people that'll be a positive. I just know my Rubbermaid didn't stain which gave me some peace of mind. When I first held it, the Di Oro felt substantially heavier. At first I thought this was a good sign but after a little use it became unnatural... like I was holding a tool not a utensil.Where it all came apart when when I first tried to clear a bowl with custard in it. If you've used the Rubbermaid spatula you know a couple scrapes and the bowl looks clean. Not the case with the Di Oro. Like not the case at all. It leaves serious streaks on either side of the spatula and even if I try I can't get the bowl clean. Like if I did 100 scrapes it'd still be worse than if I did 3 on the Rubbermaid. And that is the deal breaker. I just can't watch waste (even if it's <5%) wash down the sink. It's not in my blood. Also the material is a little stickier than normal silicone which I didn't like but for most that's prolly a non-issue. 2Disappointed. Not flexible at all. After seeing all the positive reviews and recommendations from America's Test Kitchen, I bought this spatula and the long handle narrow version. I don't know what everyone else does with a spatula that they think this does so well, but it doesn't come close to what I want in a spatula. It is nice and solid, and works well for stirring, but so does a wooden spoon or just about any other utensil with a long handle and something wide on the end. What I want in a spatula is a thin and flexible edge that conforms to the shape of a jar, bowl, or pan to scrape the sides clean, while being stiff in the handle and the rest of the blade. The handle and entire blade are very stiff, and the blade is well over 1/8 inch thick on the narrow side, so it doesn't scrape the sides of any container that isn't shaped exactly like the spatula. If you are looking for a spatula for scraping jars, bowls, pans, etc., I recommend looking for something else more flexible. 2Bad shape of spatula head It is very hard to scrape the bottom os pans and bowls because the very end of the spatula is too curve. You will have to scrape several times the bottom of a pan or bowl to scrape everything out of it or when trying to avoid having stuff sticking to the bottom of a pan in high heat, that you will even give up after a while. In that sense, it's just a little better than trying to scrape out the bottom with a spoon.Any spatula with a more flat shape of the head does a better job. Summarizing, spatula is beautiful and has good size and rigidity, but fails terribly in the shape of its head. 1The Best I've Used Silicone spatulas are a great step forward from the rubber spatulas I grew up with in the 1950s. However, many of them still retain the same physical shape as those old Rubbermaid products my parents and grandparents used. This one-piece spatula does away with the separate handle and the problems of mold getting into the rubber hole where the handle inserts. It also gets rid of the ridges around the handle that always held onto food and made it impossible to really ever get all the food off the spatula and into the bowl where you want it.The spatula does a great job of getting the food out of the bowl, and letting you scrape into most corners. It still is not quite perfect when it comes to getting into the bottom of a jar, but that is somewhat of a specialty that requires a slightly different shape.I got the black spatula, and I like the fact that I no longer have to obsess about whether it got slightly stained from using it with a tomato sauce or curry. The key thing is that when I smell it after washing, it usually smells clean or, at most, has a faint odor from the food, but only if that food was really pungent. Any residual odor usually fades completely by the next time I use it.I like this spatula. 5Fantastic Multi-Purpose Kitchen Tool I bought this due to America's Test Kitchen suggesting it. They have never steered me wrong, and this is another winner. The silicone has taken anything I throw at it without flinching. It is also just flexible enough to serve as a bowl scraper, without being too flimsy to do something like remove cookies from a cookie sheet. That alone is wonderful. It is exceptionally easy to clean, even if left out overnight and has handled every task I have asked of it. It has become one of my go-to tools in the kitchen. For the price, its a no-brainer. 5
