Customer Reviews

Didn't even get a chance to plug it in. :( I received this yesterday. I noticed the attached bulb was quite crooked, and appeared to be cross-threaded. Without taking off the protective wrapping, I tried to back it out, to seat it properly. As I gently attempted to unscrew it, the bulb instantly broke off at the base. I'm glad I hadn't unwrapped it, as I could have wound up with cuts. I had to use needle-nose pliers to remove the base, which is a very thin metal. It's not worth my effort to return.** Update: As always in my experience, Amazon Customer Service made things right. They are the reason I am willing to buy (and buy, and buy) from them. 1These vs. LED battery I have 12 of these in my house. I expected at least one to have a defect but all 12 worked perfectly! I even dragged one of them off the counter by mistake and it fell to the tile floor and the bulb smashed but the light is still working just fine. I looked at all the different window light options and at first wanted the LED battery ones but after looking at all the ones available decided not to get them for the below reasons.1. From all the reviews I have seen the LED bulbs either come in organge (think halloween orange) or white (LED super bright harsh white). I did not want orange lights. These plug in look so much nicer and the light color is closer to an actual flame coloring. This was probably the most important difference for me. I did not want halloween orange lights.2. From all the reviews it appears the battery lights are not as bright. I live on .5 acre and am set away from the road. My neighbor across the street who is at least 300 ft away from me commented on how nice and bright the lights are.3. I thought that battery ones would be easier but after researching it I found that is not exactly the case. It seems most of the LED have timers but you have to set the timer based on when the light is initially on. People commented that they would have them all set (if you have a lot you need to work quick to set them all together as they have to be set individually). Once it came time to change batteries you have to try to get the new lights in sync with the old ones. With these plug in lights they have a light sensor and automatically come on when it is dark and turn off when it is light.4. Some people commented on the batteries in the LED's only lasting 1-2 months for the AA and 3-4 months for the C kind. I did not want to bother with having to change batteries since I am running 12 lights. I like that I just plug it in and leave it.5. I thought it would be cheaper to use the batteries but after calculating the cost I found it would cost me $3.00 to run all 12 lights 12hrs a day for a month. It would cost me around $9.00 to run the LED's (assuming the 2 C batteries in each would last 4 months). So it was cheaper for me to get the plug in ones.So in review: If you are looking at these vs. LED-The color of these are much nicer unless you are going for that LED bright white or orange-They are brighter (according to folks who own LED battery ones)-They are easy, plug it in and forget it!-They may be cheaper depending on your electricity rate and what cost you can get batteriesObviously I have not owned the battery led but went through every model I could find and looked at every review (both good and bad) and this is the information I found.Overall I love these and am VERY happy with my purchase. I will probably leave them on all winter as I love the way they look. They are bright so if you need complete darkness while you sleep they might not be for you. I have them in my bedroom and my sons and we have no issue with them on while sleeping. Yes, they are light weight but I just added a little bit of masking tape to the base and they sit fine.UPDATE: My neighbor got battery LED ones this year and standing on the street looking at them side by side mine are much brighter. Still very happy with these although I do seem to lose 1 each year. When I pull them out in November 1 will be nonfunctioning. Considering the price I am still very happy and just replace the broken ones. If you plan to put these in your bedroom be warned they are on the bright side. They are nightlight bright. We just close our curtain (making sure the curtain is not touching the bulb). 5VERY poor quality and came with a broken bulb! I am EXTREMELY disappointed in this purchase. Ordered 5 of these for my upstairs windows for the holidays. All 5 came in the same box yet one candle came with a shattered bulb in a little baggie all by itself. Making it very obvious that someone intentionally packaged a shattered bulb that way. (And it wasn't due to shipping or packaging because all the other bulbs were packaged differently and safely attached to the candlestick). So I had to run out and try to find a 7 watt bulb the exact same size which I could not find, even at Walmart. They have a hideous brown cord. They also are VERY VERY light- the cord is way too heavy for these. I had to tape them to my window sill to get them to stay there. They are made in China so I suppose I shouldn't expected any type of quality. It states the cord is 5 feet long- it is no where near 5 feet in length. Also, it should be noted- the packaging states that these contain "cancer causing" chemicals and particles. Great. 1Buyer beware! I bought 18 of these candles to place in our windows for the holidays. In less than two weeks, three of them no longer work. In all three cases, the fuse and the bulb were not the problem, so it's either the wiring or perhaps the sensor in the candlestick itself. Amazon replaced the first one after it failed, and offered to replace the other two, as well, but I asked for a complete refund. I was warned that "due to manufacturers restriction, we can't accept the return of these candles." I know this falls squarely on the shoulders of Darice, and Amazon were well within their right to deny a refund, but they did make things right. I can't promise this to future buyers, though.I love that they're electric and the light glows beautifully, but the apparent quality issue gets this product a one-star vote from me. 1Dimmer than Standard (non-sensor) Candles The GOOD: The auto-sensor works OK. The sensor doesn't 'face' the outdoors (like some other candles) so if the room lights are bright, the candles turn off.The BAD: These things are pretty cheaply made - 2 of the 15 I bought didn't work out of the box... and yes, I checked the bulbs :-). The wires are thin and also have a strange residue that gets on your hands (I can't imagine it's good for you). The STRANGE: I bought these to supplement the 'standard' on/off dial-switched candles I bought recently. Unfortunately these Darice candles were dimmer than the switched candles (both using 7-watt bulbs). I tried swapping bulbs between my switched candles and these and realized it was the Darice candles themselves, not the bulbs. Turns out the sensor doesn't just turn on/off the light, it fades on/off depending on how much ambient light it senses. I think the candle's own bulb light is interfering with its sensor, making the candle dim itself.Tl;dr Cheaply-made auto-sensor candles that are dimmer than dial-switched candles, but the brightness is acceptable and the sensors are convenient. 3Half of them worked out of the box,at least. I bought six of these. Indeed, as noted by others, they are cheaply made. They look good, but haven't the weight to hold themselves upright if the cord isn't adjusted just right. They are light sensitive, as advertised, and therefore, won't be on when there is light on them. (I wrapped the light sensing candle to defeat that characteristic and to use on a timer.) My problem is that of the six, three don't work and the replacement fuses didn't cure the problem. Sensor, fuse or bulb...50% of my purchase is trash. Furthermore, you would think twice about the purchase if you could read their cautions beforehand.I need to purchase more, but will not buy Darice products again, and intend to throw the working ones in the trash with the rest of the order. 1... incandescent bulbs with LED replacements that have a really nice orange glow (https I installed two of these in my garage windows and swapped out the included incandescent bulbs with LED replacements that have a really nice orange glow (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CRHG63Y). Living in Pennsylvania, candles in windows are almost a requirement. I used epoxy to permanently install them to the wooden window sill, as they would not stand upright on their own and I'm not a fan of suction cups so I didn't want to use one of those contraptions either. There's not much else to say - these are cheap quality, low cost, simple-looking candles for decorating a bunch of windows or another space. I will update if there are any issues with reliability. 5Not Perfect In 2018, I bought one set, containing 4 candles costing $28.00. In 2008, I bought one set, containing 2 candles costing $3.00 (same weight and wattage), you do the math Yes, the candles are heavier than most sold in "Big Box Stores", but they still fall over on the window ledge if a suction cup is not used. The sensor will fail occasionally, so unplug the candle and then re-plug it. the candle's body is white plastic not metal (for $28.00, it should be metal). I won't buy more sensor candles, I'll just let the candles burn 24/7 and use the on/off switch. Delivery took three days and the packaging was excellent. 3I do not recommend purchasing these particular lamps because of this problem The base is not weighted. It is so light that the weight of the cord pulls it over on its side. I have never had this problem before with the "sensor" candles that I have used for many years. I believe the company sells items to sit the lamp in, or to attach it to the window, etc. By not weighting the base unless I can come up with something on my own, it will be necessary to purchase the accessory items. I purchased quite a few of the lamps, and in order to use them safely I need to purchase the accessory items. I do not recommend purchasing these particular lamps because of this problem. There are others on the market. 1I really like them! So far they ve worked great and I ve ... I read a lot of reviews on candle lights and decided to give these a try. I really like them! So far they ve worked great and I ve had them for around a month. They go on consistently every evening at dusk and off in the morning. The light is not crazy bright like some I ve seen, but u can easily see them from the road. They give more of a natural candle type of light not orange or blue, just right actually. I thought maybe I would have wanted them brighter, but I realize I wouldn t because they give just a warm glow behind the curtains in our rooms. Any brighter and I d have to turn them off when we go to bed 5
