Customer Reviews

Ingenius I know this review won't help much for Halloween 2018 carvers, but future carvers need to grab one of these right away. We bought one last Halloween and just used it for the second season. The video with this product is accurate, and you really can clean a large pumpkin that quickly and neatly. Pumpkin seeds were left whole and ready for toasting. Eliminates the drudgery of scraping away at a pumpkin's innards for half an hour before the fun carving can start. A Halloween must-have -- highly recommend! 5What are you waiting for? This is a MUST HAVE. 100% Recommended. SUPER easy pumpkin gutting.A minute or two with any regular drill (not an impact driver) is all it takes, even on giant 50+lb pumpkins from the field.Still a bit messy, but still cleaner than gutting pumpkins by hand.Best part is thinning the walls of the pumpkin very very easily. This used to be a huge chore/burden, especially on large pumpkins. (On large pumpkins, the walls can be 2-3 inches thick, which makes carving difficult, thinning them down to about 1 inch is perfect.)My only caution - you could easily thin the walls of the pumpkin too much if you get over enthusiastic, so be a bit careful as you thin the walls. TIP: If you have the side lit up by sunlight, or any bright light, you can see by the glow through the wall if you are getting too thin. 5...maybe you don't really NEED it, but it sure is a handy and fun little tool So this is a kinda silly tool, right? I mean... who needs to use a drill to take the guts out of a pumpkin? Well... if you are hosting a party and there are a half-dozen or more kids all carving their pumpkin together, then you need one of these! Ok... maybe you don't really NEED it, but it sure is a handy and fun little tool.I connected this to a cordless hand drill and it made quick work out of 7 pumpkins. In addition to dislodging the stringy pumpkin-guts from the side walls, if you have a thick-walled pumpkin and you want to thin the walls a bit for carving, this can certainly chip away at the inside walls easily. And don't worry... you and your carvers can still enjoy the annual sensation of pumpkin guts all over your hands when you reach down inside the shell to pull out all of the loose pieces. That's part of the fun!! 5Let the gutting begin! So there I was, facing 10 pumpkins that needed to be carved. I had the ideas, the special knives, and no one to help. A quick check with my shopping buddy (Amazon) and I found this beauty! The shining steel shaft with the ball of death on the end looked to be exactly what I needed. I ordered it immediately and planned to wait 2 days for it to come. 1 day later I was ready to gut pumpkins like a professional. I started small and soon found myself able to tackle the biggest pumpkins. Not only was I able to gut them in no time, the big pumpkins were extremely thick and I was able to easily thin the walls where I was going to carve. Now that Halloween is over, I have it hanging in a conspicuous spot over my work bench as a warning to all pumpkins that I m ready for next year. Don t delay, order now, and make sure you are ready to lay waste to all pumpkins that come your way. 5OMG this worked so damn good! I was shocked that something actually worked better than i expected.you need to keep a knife handy to keep the guts from wrapping around the shaft and flinging around, but that's it.My wife took a shot to the face with a piece of goo, but she took it like a champ. shes been down that road before.but literally all you do is work back & forth from the top down, 1\4 turn of the pumpkin at a time. Then dump the guts out into a bucket and finish the bottom and any spots you missed. In 4 minutes you got a clean pumpkin ready for carving. You can even use this to thin out the walls so if you buy a big pumpkin with 3 inch thick walls, you can trim them down as thin as you dare.we bought huge pumpkins this year from the fancy farm market, and this tool was long enough to get to the bottom without getting my hands all gooey.Perfect!!! 5Better to not use a wimpy drill for this We have a large pumpkin carving party every year. At least 20 other folks with at least a pumpkin or two each. This thing was a huge hit! Saves so much time and lets you clean out and get the walls as thin as you need in just a couple of minutes. Probably three to five times as fast as doing it manually depending on who's doing it by hand.We use a large trash bin for pumpkin guts, etc. So to clean up a bit part way though, I'll take out of pumpkin and point drill into trash bin. Then reverse the drill and run it for a couple of seconds. This will often clear off some of the stuff that's twisted around it. Others, I'll just cut it in a line right up the shaft of the drill bit and that gets rid of the twisted on stuff fast.Better to not use a wimpy drill for this. If cordless, make sure you've got well charged batteries. 5Nostalgia killer I have memories of sitting next to a pumpkin on my grandparents' countertop, helping my grandmom scoop out the strings with a large kitchen spoon, and saving the seeds to season and roast. It's a pleasant memory, tinged gold by the passage of decades. This tool takes away that nostalgic process. And I FLIPPING LOVE IT.De-gooping is my least favorite part of pumpkin carving. It's messy, slimy, and smelly. Who likes getting squash guts under their fingernails? Little kids sitting on countertops who still revel in touching grossness, that's who. It's been almost thirty years since that memory, and we're still trying to scoop stubborn veggie innards with spoons. Specially-designed pumpkin spoons, but spoons nonetheless. But then. The Pumpkin Gutter. A revelation. The wet, malodorous process I was so dreading took less than ten minutes for two 25-lb pumpkins. The only thing that slowed it down was an inadequately charged power drill. It spun, it cleaned, it rinsed easily. There's honestly not much else to say. It works as advertised and it's a beautiful, beautiful thing. I am in awe, and also kind of ticked that I touched so much stringy ickiness over so much of my life because I didn't have this tool. Never again. I am a Pumpkin Gutter convert forever. Sorry not sorry, grandmom. 5well worth the money This thing is amazing and so worth it. I carved 14 pumpkins for a birthday present (the person loves halloween) and without this thing it would have been exhausting. I noticed in the how to video the inventor has a deWalt drill, which is a very good drill. My drill isn't the best and it still did a good job. I had to do two rounds of gutting, the first got 90%out the second cleaned everything up. If you enjoy carving pumpkins this is well worth it, you will be able to use it year after year and makes the whole process more enjoyable. I only wish I carved them down more because after everything was said and done I saw some glowed orange from being gutted more then others! The bad reviews I read it seems like the people didn't watch the informational video and were hoping it would gut for them and you need to put some work into it if your drill isn't that powerful. Also having someone hold the pumpkin helps but isn't necessary. Really enjoy this product 5Gutting (1 star) but Thinning the Pumpkin Walls (5 stars)!!! As far as gutting, this guy was an epic fail. The strings of seeds just wrap around the shaft (the instructions even warn about this) and you have to unwrap them over and over. Easier to just pull out the seeds by hand. But what this guy IS good at is thinning the sidewalls inside the pumpkin before carving. That always took me ages of scraping and with this guy you can chunk it off in minutes! Yea!! You need a drill with an adjustable chuck to use it. We tried a regular impact driver and it wouldn't fit, so we borrowed a neighbors drill & it worked great :) So I am keeping to make reducing the sidewalks easier in the future :) 4Where Have You Been All of My Adult Life Holy Cow, this thing is awesome! No only is it fun to completely decimate the inside of pumpkins, but it is also very effective. I completely reamed 4 medium to large-sized pumpkins in 20-25 minutes. Everyone was amazed at how smooth the inside of the pumpkins were.It is a little messier than cleaning the pumpkins out by hand. I recommend doing it outside. It took a little while to clean up my kitchen after it was all said and done. I also recommend using a corded drill. Cordless works but you will burn through your batteries if you have more than one (1) pumpkin to ream.Be aware that the spider-web of orange pumpkiny innards will wrap around the Gutter's stem. The easiest way to remove the stuff is to take the Gutter out of the drill, slide the stuff down the stem, and reinstall the Gutter into the drill once it is clean. While the Gutter is removed, it is also a good time to wash it off. The orange pumpkiny innards stick to eveything!.FYI, during the off-season (any month other than October), the Pumpkin Gutter also makes a decent paint bucket stirrer. Just remember not to rub up against the sides of the paint can/bucket as it will start to dull the blades. 5
