Make sure you read the directions on the back of the box! Quick to install if you read the directions on the back of the box. I ordered two of them, and of course they placed a sticker directly over the instructions on the back of the box on both boxes. Thankfully I was able to peel it off one of the boxes so I could see that you do NOT remove the screw cap. On every other toilet seat I've installed you pop open the cap, install the screw and of course put the nut on the bottom of the toilet. On these you DON'T install it that way!!! You simply place the plastic screw through the top of your toilet and put the plastic nut underneath the bowl (be sure you put the curved side of the nut to the toilet side) and tighten it down. Then you place the seat with the cap in place over the top of the screws. The screw have a lip with a groove that engages the seat. Then you twist slightly the cap while pushing down on the toilet seat. You'll hear it snap in place. Release the cap and repeat on the other side. The caps have molded into them an arrow which way to twist the caps to install or remove the seat. To remove the whole seat to clean it or the bowl would literally take a few seconds. This is a pretty neat install/removal method for the seat. 5A good seat when it was 11 bucks... Update 4/9/14... I just dropped it from the original 4-stars down to 3-stars because I now have 2 in my home and can't keep a cover on either one. There just seems to be no way to keep a lid cover on one of these seats... and it's a bear to get it on in the first place. If you like your toilet seat naked then this is a good one.Built like a brick outhouse... it's probably the best seat I've even sat upon for under 12 bucks. It certainly beats all those inexpensive brands at the home centers that will inevitably fail. I just lost a decent Bemis because one hinge snapped in half right in the middle. I've probably installed 30 toilet seats over the past 50 years because we move a lot and changing the seats is always first on the to-do list. I have tried expensive seats and they fail also... usually it's the pads under the seat that contact the toilet and if you're a leaner they always go quickly. When they state "Non-Corrosive Bolts and Wing Nuts" it means plastic. I went with 4-stars instead of 5 because there are no instructions. Though you should be able to install without instructions they also state that it's "Easy Clean and Change" and you should be able to somehow twist the bolt covers to remove the hinges & cover. I can't get that to work on mine and perhaps some instructions would have helped because I'm not sure if I have a bolt in wrong or if the seat has a defect for that option. Lastly, this was sold and shipped by Amazon and all they did has put a mailing label on the retail packaging and sent it on it's way and USPS somehow managed to jam it into my rural mailbox... it arrived alive but I think that was purely accidental. 3As Church claims, "The best seat in the house!" :) Yes, I'm reviewing a toilet seat. Why? Because it's a good one.About 10 years ago, I moved into a new house that had white Church wooden toilet seats. This was before Church came out with the EasyClean hinges. The seats were comfortable, durable, and trouble-free, though cleaning around the hinges was always difficult (just like with any other toilet seat I've ever seen).Unfortunately, the seat in the downstairs half bath ended up with a dent on the lid from the kids banging it open against the flared edge of the tank lid day after day. I went out and bought a traditional Bemis toilet seat that looked just like the Church toilet seat. Big mistake. It installed easily and worked fine, but there was a sharp seam of some kind running around the inside of the seat and around the outside of the seat. If anyone sat there for more than a couple minutes, the seam was very noticeable. I was informed of this by several family members, and I had to agree that it wasn't a good place for doing any reading...Thinking I'd just gotten a bad seat, I went by the store to look and found that the rest of the seats had similar seams. Since I couldn't find Church seats at local stores, I ended up buying one from Amazon. And it was just as comfortable as the rest of the Church seats. When I moved out of the house, I replaced all of the seats with brand new Church seats (after thorough toilet cleanings, of course). It's easier to sell a house when the toilets are pristine and have brand new seats. After moving into my current house, I replaced the existing seats with Church EasyClean seats. They remain rock-solid and, as the name suggests, they're very easy to clean. Turn the two plastic knobs at the back of the seat to the left, and the seat lifts right off of the mounting posts. Clean up the hinge area with a few wipes, place the hinges over the posts, and turn the knobs back to the right. Now the seat is locked in place again. It doesn't get any easier than that. These seats are very easy to install. They don't move or slide around, have a solid feel to them, are quite durable, easy to clean and are very comfortable. Highly recommended! 5Well made seat Very nice weight to this seat, not cheap and flimsy. Fit right onto the toilet, took all of 2 minutes and a flat head screwdriver. I've had these easy release seats before, and they are easy to use. The measurements were exact. Only time will tell if the finish holds up, but it's a great seat for the price!2 weeks later, and I am having problems. The seat keeps pulling itself off the toilet. I have it installed correctly and the hinge covers locked tight, yet it keeps pulling itself out of the holes the plastic hinge things go into. I will be contacting the company as I have had this type of easy clean hinge before and never had the problem of it loosening itself up time after time.Follow up. One call to the Church Co. and the seat was immediately replaced by them. Excellent customer service, and no problems with this second seat! 4The Best Seat in the House I remember driving many years ago by the old Church plant (now closed, I think) located near Palmer MA.. It featured the slogan -- "The Best Seat in the House" on a big sign over the plant. This particular seat is well made. Nothing to complain about. So I've written this little jingle.Faulty fittingsCan ruin your sittings. If your seat is ChurchYou'll never lurch.------waiting for my Pulitzer Poetry Prize 5Everything is great except the lack of installment instructions I have installed toilet seats before, but this one is a little different because of the easy clean hinges. I popped the hinge covers off by pushing up on them with my thumb, then dropped the bolt through the hole to test the position of the seat on the toilet. Leaving the bolt in place, I snapped the cover back on the hinges, put the seat on the toilet, and twisted the bolt on underneath. The best thing about this seat is it fits firmly and tightly and is low cost. I have had several seats that loosened up after installment. I would highly recommend this seat. I haven't used the easy clean feature yet, but will probably do so in the future.I just couldn't give it 5 stars because of the frustration of trying to figure out the installment.Edit 7/20/14: I have since bought another Church toilet seat like this at a local store and the directions are printed on the package. The clips are not removable on the newer version. 4Fits perfectly, easy to install, looks great I bought this toilet seat to replace a Church toilet seat that came with my brand new house 12 years ago. The original Church seat started to become discolored and one of the hinges was almost cracked thru, but 12 years is great service for a seat that was used daily so I decided to stick to the same quality brand. The new seat itself looked identical to the one I was replacing, same great finish and thickness of wood material. The only difference is the new easy clean hinges as my old one had standard hinges. This does make it easier to clean the toilet especially the area around the hinges and the hinges themselves. As a couple other posters mentioned, make sure you read the installation instructions on the box if provided (mine did not come with any instructions as it may have been a contractor s package). I know installation seems self-explanatory for those who have installed a seat before but you do not flip open the bolt covers on the hinges of the seat and install the bolts thru the hinges as you do on most seats. The bolts install first with the nuts, then you unlock the "covers" by turning them as far left as you can, press the seat over the grey bolts, then lock the covers in place by turning them right as far as they will go. The seat has only been in use for a month and I will post an addendum if I have issues. I was going to purchase another one of these seats on Amazon.com from the same seller for my second bathroom, but I noticed the seller is charging $20 more for the seat than when I purchased it the first time. I've looked and you can find this same seat at Home Depot for $26 and change. My guess is it has to do with the shipping as the seat came in a huge box when I ordered it and the shipping probably cost close to what the seat was selling for and I purchased it with free shipping. 5Color matches 1980's American Standard as well as Kohler toilets A perfect match for my 1980's American Standard toilet. I shopped all the big box stores looking for a seat to match my old American Standard toilet and was unsuccessful at finding anything even close. Then I went to a interior design specialty shop and took the bold cover from the bottom of the toilet. The guy looked up a color chart for Kohler toilets. He said that Kohler sets the standards for colors and other manufactures copied them. He said he could sell me one for about $80 but suggested I go online and find an ice gray one for a lot cheaper. Needless to say, I did and ran across this one for substantially less. I received it the other day and I'm happy to report it matches my American Standard toilet perfectly. The seat is a quality built wood seat (much better than plastic) that easily attaches and detaches from the top of the bolts by turning a piece of plastic to lock and unlock it. This makes if very easy to remove and clean under. I didn't even have to replace the bolts from my previous (non color matching) seat as it attached the same way. Took less than a minute to replace. If your looking to match to a lighter color gray this is likely the seat/color for you. They only made the lighter and darker gray shades back then, according to the employee at the home interior store I went to. Very happy with the product! 5Split decision! I have always been happy with the Church brand of toilet seats and covers (I know, odd). And when this new seat arrived about four weeks ago it was easy to install and fit perfectly. Looked great too! And upon this throne I did perch. And for weeks I smiled at this fine new cover (the previous one was quite worn).Today that ended with a loud crack as the toilet unceremoniously split in half on one side. Luckily no one was hurt but it gave us quite a scare. And now we don't have a toilet seat cover and I am back to buy another one.In their defense - maybe this was a one off dud - that happens. Or more likely the fit wasn't perfect and it's been flexing for these past few weeks and finally gave way. So it could be user error on my part (indeed this is likely as I am not mechanically inclined). Still, given the people parts that are close to a toilet seat I prefer one that fails gracefully and doesn't involve any sort of motion. So I am thinking molded wood isn't that great a material for toilet seats. So the seat I am buying today will be either solid wood or plastic. We will see how that holds up.The Graduate: Mr. McGuire: I want to say one word to you. Just one word. Benjamin: Yes, sir. Mr. McGuire: Are you listening? Benjamin: Yes, I am. Mr. McGuire: Plastics. Benjamin: Exactly how do you mean? Mr. McGuire: There's a great future in plastics. Think about it. Will you think about it? 2Cures Slipping Toilet Seat PTSD I ordered this when my prior toilet seat nearly killed me in the middle of the night by slinging itself side-saddle like a botched carnival ride in a horror movie. It was one of those seats that had to be tightened constantly... after my near-death experience, I decided to trust Amazon Reviewers on this one. I'm glad I did. So far, it has stayed in place like it should, hasn't tried to pitch me off in the middle of the night, and has the benefit of being super easy to clean. A definite keeper. 5
