Customer Reviews

Strong enough to be used with cheater bars!I don't usually write reviews, but this was too good to keep to myself.Today I did one of the stupidest things I've done. Ever. I was trying to loosen some hex head bolts, and for some reason I got mixed up and was tightening them. When they didn't budge (obviously) I got a cheater bar about 2' long and proceeded to tighten them more! After breaking my hex socket, I finally realized what I was doing. After calling myself an idiot, I started trying to unscrew them (the right way this time). Of course I immediately stripped the head. I tried vice grips on the head (and I put them on REALLY tight) but they just slipped on the bolt head.It was then I got my Channellocks. I figured I would probably break them, but I decided to use cheater bars on these. I put a 2' pipe on each side of the channellocks and squeezed them together until they crossed. I turned and the bolt loosened. I couldn't believe the tool held up! If these channellocks can hold up with the force of two 2' cheater bars, they can do anything!I am very pleased! 5You Need these ChannellocksLook, when you need slip-joint, tongue and groove adjustable pliers, you NEED Channellocks. These particular Channellocks have a large mouth for just over 4 inches, but when you need to bear down on some 2-inch rigid conduit, these are the right size. These have the classic Channellock look and feel, but there is a bigger capacity for a bigger job. No doubt, if you have your typical day-to-day work, the Channellock 420's, 430's or 440's will do the job. But sometimes, you're trying to turn a larger conduit coupler; sometimes, you want the exhaust pipe to hold still while you work on the back side of the manifold; sometimes you need the Channellock 460's. For about 22-bucks or so, these 460's are the right Channellocks to have standing by. 5Don't think you need a HUGE pair of Channellocks? Think again.I think everyone should have a pair of these. At first glance they look like something that only a plumber or a heavy-equipment mechanic should need, but you'll be amazed at the range of things you find yourself using them for. I call them my "persuaders." I'm little and I don't have great hand strength so they are endlessly useful in working on my five old cars. I've used them for everything from popping loose a stuck oil filler cap to reshaping bent spring clips. They've got surprising dexterity and precision for something so huge, and I tend to think of them as functioning like an elephant's trunk: able to pluck a single blade of grass. Channellock continues to make consistently impressive products despite their modest pricing. I love these pliers! 5Channellock 440 12-Inch Tongue and Groove Straight-Jaw PliersI purchased another pair of these Channellock 440 12" tongue and groove pliers to keep in my other tool box. The older pair I have has seen a lot of use over the years and has held up well. These 440 pliers have the straight jaws, which I generally prefer over the curved jaws on the similar Channellock 12" 442 pliers. I was glad to see that these new pliers are still being made in the USA. I have a full set of these Channellock tongue and groove pliers ranging from the small 424 4-1/2" size all the way up to the 482 20-1/2", but these 440 12" and the 415 10" seem to be the sizes I use the most, since those are the two sizes that can be easily carried in my tool bucket or pouch, so I always have them with me. These new pliers have the same 2-1/4" capacity and grip very well, just as the old ones do. They still seem to be made from the same quality steel as the older ones as well, so I have no doubt they will give me years of similar service. 5Excellent ToolI was borrowing a coworker's tongue-and-groove pliers while I waited for these to come in, and these are better than the ones he lent me. The captive nut on the pivot makes sure that the pliers never come apart and you don't have to worry about tightening the nut down so you don't lose it. The teeth are grippy and the pliers operate smoothly. 5Welcome to my Channellock familyAs you can see I am a Channellock fan. I bought these 460s for the purpose of holding the water pump steady so I could remove the Fan Hub clutch assembly on my moms Chev Trailblazer. My Gearwrench Fan Hub kit is junk. The tongs no longer have tightness in the pivot rivet so they are way to sloppy. These big bad 460s were able grab those bolts like shown so I could turn the 36mm Hub nut off. Now keep in mind that using these Channellocks on the water pump hub mount bolts didn't do any good wonders for the bolts but at least I got the job done. The jaws open up to 4.5 inches as specified, and they don't slip. They are a foot and half long, so you will need to grow some muscles to hold them on an object. 5One of my ALL-TIME FAVORITE toolsAfter 5 years' experience with this tool, I can confidently recommend that you buy this tool RIGHT NOW.This is one of those tools that you'll reach for a LOT.It grips strongly for yanking and lefty-loosy-ing. It's even durable and heavy enough I've used it as a light hammer. If you're really desperate, you could use a band clamp to make it a ghetto vise-grip. That's another one of those tools you NEED RIGHT NOW, but that's another story altogether...The grips are comfortable, non-slip, and clean up easily. That's very important for grabbing onto whatever you need with maximum strength.Speaking of strength, the 12-inch tool was the perfect length for me. I've never wanted a smaller or bigger one. Perfect compromise of portability, fitting in tight spaces, and strength, for me.Keep the channels clean and lubricated, and the tool slides in and out of them perfectly. The teeth are perfectly situated to grab and go. And the hardened steel is STRONG. It'll tear brass to shreds if you're careless. What an A+ product from a USA company. BUY ONE NOW! 5American made and you can tellIt doesn't matter whether you're tightening down a faucet or using them as a hammer, they work for just about anything. They still slide into each slot as easy as the day I got them and it's been 2 years. They spent the winter getting wet in my tool bag and the majority of my work day in my tool pouch being used as a hammer just as frequently as pliers. They're a little large for some uses. You may want to look into the 430's if you're looking for more household friendly. If you're doing pipe fitting or electrical work or anything in between, then I would only suggest channel lock brand Chanel locks. 5Second times a charm! So my husband ordered this Sunday evening and received it Tuesday. We weren't thinking when we got the package of what it was but it sure felt super light. I opened it and it was literally empty! Never has this happened to us and we order from Amazon allll the time. It was sealed and all. And it said 1.4 lbs. How do you not know when delivering it it's way under the weight it's supposed to be. So we contacted Amazon and of course they fixed it very quickly and smoothly. So I just received the second package and took a video this time just to cover our bases. And they're exactly described. Very good quality and sterdy. My husband will use them at work. Funny thing is I work at Amazon and the package came through my fulfillment center but not in the area I work. 5Made in USAChannellock set the standard for pliers so there was no question what brand I would choose when I needed a larger size. These are enormous even though they are not their largest size. I specifically needed mine because they are great for removing spud nuts from Kohler toilets that are recessed in a proprietary rubber gasket. The nuts are off in a matter of seconds with these pliers with no damaged gasket. I debated on the 420's with V-jaw but decided on these because the V-jaw version tips don't line up exactly like these and that is what I will need most. The Channellock 460's are the real deal and should take years of use and abuse. 5
