Customer Reviews

Order 1/2hp above what your current motor is rated atI am a pool service tech with over 20 years in the business. If you need to replace a 1 1/2hp motore order the 2hp model instead. This is an up-rated motor. While they clearly state that it is up-rated the S.F. number is NOT specified, but The 1 1/2hp motor only has an S.F. rating of 1.3 which effectively makes this a 1hp motor and you will need to get a lighter weight 1hp impeller or this WILL overheat. The problem with that is you will have greatly reduced flow rate which means that you will be running your pump for a longer period of time to get the same water turnover in your pool.I made the mistake of ordering this because I was in a rush and wasn't paying attention. On top of that it isn't worth returning due to shipping costs. This is going in my "Extra parts" storage area and will likely be used some time in the far future when I come across a customer in need of a 1hp motor. It is effectively useless as a 1 1/2hp motor despite what the title of the item says.1Cool runner.I purchased this replace the 1hp motor in my Hayw2ard Super Pump II. The impeller was rated for 1hp as well as 1.5hp, so I did not need to change a thing, except to put in a new seal. The run temperature for the 1hp motor was supposed to be 64 degrees F above ambient, but was much higher. The new 1.5HP motor runs at 50 degrees above ambient. Very god!5Exact Replacement Motor for a Hayward Super II 1.5HP Pump from an Excellent MerchantThis Century (Formerly A.O. Smith) Electric Up-Rated Round Flange Replacement Motor was a perfect replacement for my Hayward Super II Pump. My original pump had a gold painted case, but everything else was exactly the same. It was easy to install. There are several how-to videos online at that popular online video web site. I also purchased a Hayward SPX3000TRA Seal Assembly Replacement Kit for my Hayward Super II Pump here at Amazon.com. Unfortunately, my experience with all types of local repair people, except for licensed electricians, is that they are careless, incompetent, and over-priced, so I am forced to repair things myself, whether I want to or not. Fortunately, Amazon.com has many repair and replacement parts and equipment available for a variety of things, ranging from swimming pools, appliances, printers, and just about anything you can think of. Amazon.com also hosts many fine merchants, such as the one who sold me this motor. For instance, the motor arrived sooner than I expected it, in just one day, without me having to pay any extra shipping fees, and it was very well packaged. Thank-you!5First impression: Great replacement for much more expensive pumps My Hayward died at the end of the season -- right when I was closing my pool for the season. I needed something cheap and quick, so I installed a Century. This pump was easy to install and ran great while I vacuumed leaves/etc. I would say it ran better than my last Hayward, but that thing was probably on its last leg. Even if this pump lasts a season or two, I am still several hundred dollars ahead of what the local pool shop wanted. 5Yayyyy so glad we did not get the more expensive name brand- that would've been sillyI had been warned not to buy anything pool related except for name brand (such as Hayward) but we saw this for so much less and more power.... so could not turn it down! We received it and replaced the Hayward motor that had blown after < 3 years and was only a 1HP - we have been very pleased with it so far. Quiet operation and pumps really fierce for less cleaning needed now. YAYYY and we saved money doing so- woohoooo!!5Great PumpWe replaced our pool pump. Excellent to be able to switch out. Missing helpful instructions so go to YouTube and you can find very helpful videos. Not difficult to do. You have to discharge the capacitor ( searchyoutube). We did not replace the seals and it worked fine. We did see some damage to a seal so if we get a leak at a later date we can just go back and switch out so don t feel you have to get the seals. So empowering to do ourselves so very happy with this product.5Half the Cost / Works Great I was hesitant to replace my pool pump, but this worked out perfect! My pool pump started making this loud screeching sound. Long story short, I knew it needed to be replaced so I looked up some YouTube videos (highly recommend). I was on the fence about purchasing an expensive, name brand pool pump but this system was half the cost and had all the same specs.Super easy to replace (YouTube thank you)... took no time at all and this new pool pump as been working flawlessly for months now. I'll keep updating after a year. 5Pics taken with phone will help with removal/install Instructions were adequate but not detailed. Has worked so far at 3 weeks now without any problems. Hint: Take pics of how old motor was wired before doing the job. It will help. Remember that the impeller must be unscrewed from shaft end to remove, and you will have to hold the nut at aft end of the shaft to do that. 4The correct wrong motor. This is mostly an FYI, my fault and lesson learned. A couple months after purchasing and installing the pool pump, and running nicely, the pump failed. This pool pump though having the same identification info as my original pool pump (A.O. Smith 1- 1/2hp motor) was an Up-Rated motor as apposed to a Full Rated Motor. I had to look up what the difference is and yes even websites I visited stated it can be confusing, you think your getting a better motor. For me I ordered the UST1152 pool motor and turns out I should have ordered the ST1152; who knew! I did my research and it lead me to this model as a replacement for my now obsolete pool motor, unsure why nothing was ever mention about the two types of motors. Essentially the ST1152 has a larger pump fan and rotor and the amount of copper that the pump contains is more. One key factor to watch for is the SF # (Service Factor), this pump is 1.0 while the pump I should have gotten is 1.33; and now I know.1worked great.worked all summer after my hayward died on us of a superhot early week of June, seems a deal more quite then my hayward was. . Pretty easy installation if your okay with tools and have some basic electrical tools. Note you will need to purchase the "whip" electrical cord/plug and wire it into the motor, so figure out that as well when you buy this so you have everything when it arrives.5Two Failed Trying for a Third Time-Quality Very Poor I got the 1 horse power version. Replacing a A.O. Smith, almost exact same looking motor. The first motor would run but only for a few minutes and would turn off (thermal protector) from running so hot. The replacement Amazon sent me would not start. Double checked power, etc. Everything good. Obviously the start/run capacitor is bad. Trying for a third time only because it is so easy to take off, and drop at UPS store. I am hoping the third one works because if not, I will then have to buy a whole new pump and motor, repipe it, etc. Looking around on Amazon and the Internet, it seems Century makes most motors on every brand pool pump out there. Show me something else of high quality and I will buy it. I will not pay $400-$500 for a Hayward with a Century Motor labeled as a Hayward. 1Was a sceptic Old motor rusted up and seized local pool guy was gonna charge 400 dollars plus 2-3 weeks wait, f that. This motor runs smooth and quite and has 2 year warranty. The install was easy I do recommend replacing all the pump seals since you will have to disassemble the pump to mount motor. The only problem i ran into was the voltage setting 230v or 115, it is set to 230v from the factory. I have a volt meter so it was not big a issue but, if your feeling lucky you can look at what the old motor was set to assuming it was set right in the first place. 5Not the BestDescription says"Corrosion-resistant outer shell".Yeah right. Not!As you can see from the picture I posted is not. Also it is not as great as the pool motor I replaced it with.I ended up having to buy another pool motor since this one not the greatest. My older motor was also a 1 1/2 horsepower but this one is not as powerful giving the flow of water that is needed for my pool. The new pool motor I had to buy works much better and is a 1 1/2 horsepower as well. This has been a waste of money and from my experience I do not recomend it.2It overheated and burnt up after one hour of use ... It overheated and burnt up after one hour of use. And one of the bolt holes had to be drilled and tapped due to prev bolt was broken in the hole. Will not buy again. In case anyone missed it.... These are USED motors and there's no telling what you'll get. 1So far so good. If you are installing yourself consult "in yo pool " videos and take photos of your old motor to remember where wires go. Also take a photo of how the capacitor is installed so it is replaced in the correct way. (The capacitor has to be moved out of the way initially.) We had a problem because we did not replace the capacitor correctly and had to troubleshoot. 5Went bad after 18 months, had to replace it AGAINI had to replace this 1.5hp pump after a year and a half of use, which is pretty disappointing. I ended up buying the brand name, Hayward motor instead of this...it was all rusted and damaged after using it, my previous motor lasted me much much longer that was from hayward and came with the installed pump system. Very disappointed especially since its a pain in the ass to change. Definitely do not recommend.2This motor is a piece of crap. Lasted all of 6 monthsThis motor is a piece of crap. Lasted all of 6 months. Tried to return, they told me they won't replace until they receive the old motor. In the meantime my pool turns green. If I decided to keep it they give me $5. REALLY! Keep this piece of sh*& motor. Don't waste your money on this junk.1Great pump motor for half the price! Perfect fit! I replaced my AO Smith electric pump motor with this one, (UST1102, 56J, 1 HP).Helpful tips:1.) After I installed the separately sold shaft seal, (shaft seal & gasket kit was also purchased on Amazon), I found nothing that specified how tightly to screw on the impeller to the shaft. However, I did find a YouTube video online, in which the guy stated to make sure the impeller was snug. This turned out to be correct, because once the pump assembly is all connected, the system should adjust itself accordingly.2.) Don t forget to fill the pump assembly with water prior to applying power to test the system for leaks. I know.... it seems like second nature to do this. But, it was 100 + degrees outside, and this slipped my mind initially. 5
