Customer Reviews

Decent yarn, "dark country blue" different than picturedThis yarn is decent. The strands kind of split apart pretty easily and there's a bit of shedding that I'm not in love with but otherwise I like to work with it, as long as the price is right! I would say definitely aim for under $6. We were able to get it at our chain craft store for $2.50 one time when they were having a sale, though I did order this particular color (at a higher price) from Amazon.I did want to make a note about the color. I wanted a dark blue color for a hat for my grandfather, and the photo for "Dark Country Blue" seemed a little lighter than what I had in mind. But when I read the reviews, another reviewer said that they had ordered the Dark Country Blue and it was far darker than pictured and their project came out all wrong. What turned out to be a disappointment for them worked out great for me. I ordered the yarn and the color was exactly what I wanted. Rather dark - but not quite navy. Gave the hat to my gramp in the hospital. 4Horrible yarnCaron yarn colors are great but it is not the greatest for wear & tear. I've used it many times for many different projects. They are fairly expensive & when the finished item is worn or washed it pills up so that little tiny beads are all over it. Not good for hats or ear warmers at all because it stretches out & will not regain it's original shape. It's really flimsy so it is ok for a shawl, but then again it pills badly. I have tubs of this stuff that I will probably use for yarn bombing one day. 1For being a better grade of yarn I am totally disappointed with his ...For being a better grade of yarn I am totally disappointed with his yarn.. The reason being, and I'd expect it from Red Heart yarn, but not Caron is that it splits terrible making speed non-existent. Very unhappy. Maybe it's only the blue. I'm not sure. Will not buy this color again for sure. 2Pretty yarn, but fuzzy spots and one skein was cut in half in the middle of the skein.I have to say I was angry when I was crocheting and all of a sudden I ran out of yarn in the middle of the skein...it was cut completely in half. I was able to weave the other end into the project I was doing and finish the skein, but if I had been making one of the shopping bags that I crochet, I would have had to take it all out and go to another skein. In addition, there were several spots in the skein where the yarn had "fuzzed up" and looked thin, like it was going to split...this occurred on two skeins. Also, there were many spots in both skeins where the plies bunched up and/or seemed to want to unravel. I have never had these things happen with other skeins from various other brands in the past, so it surprised me. The color is very bright and pretty, and the yarn is very soft, but I don't think I will buy this brand again.UPDATE 4/8/2014: I have now started on a 3rd skein to finish my project, and *this* one has numerous places where black yarn (I'm using Autumn Red) is tightly wound around the yarn (anywhere from 1/2" to 1") as I'm bringing it up! I've had to carefully cut it away where I could, but some is just too tight against the red yarn. I tried to access the Caron website listed on the label of the yarn, but it won't come up and there is no phone number that I can find. 2Not great for meI am not loving this particular yarn. I find it to be "floppy" as I work with it. I am making an article of clothing with it right now and it just leaves it looking like I said... "floppy". Personally, I would not buy this yarn again. 3This yarn looks amazing on the skeinThis yarn looks amazing on the skein. Lovely colors, smooth, shiny. Victorian Rose in particular is a nice, dusty pink. However, Simply Soft ends up looking very worn out and scraggly almost immediately when used. It is still soft, but it just looks old. Impossible to get a really great picture of close up because the yarn fuzzes so badly. In my opinion, there are nicer soft yarns for comparable prices that retain their "on-the-skein" appearance much better. Oh, also, Simply Soft is labeled as a category 4 worsted weight yarn but it is much thinner than every other worsted yarn I've used. I don't know why they call it a 4 because it's a 3. I used mine with Bernat Softee Baby yarn and they were the same size. 3Lovely, silky yarn.Love the color of the lavender-blue yarn... Caron Simply Soft is my go-to yarn for general items. Blankets and throws made from it have a heavy drape that makes them especially comforting to the user. One child said snuggling under the crocheted throw was like getting a hug! 5Manufacturing error & no good way to address the problem on AmazonI normally love this brand of yarn, and have never had this significant of a problem with a skein. It s as if somewhere in the middle of the manufacturing process, several strands got tangled & continued to get wrapped up in a tangled way the rest of the way through. As I hate to throw away yarn, I ve managed to salvage maybe half the skein without losing my mind. (Even though it HAS been time consuming). The rest will have to be thrown away unless I want to work with bits of yarn a 6 inches to a foot long that have been tied off continuously & will have to eventually have all loose ends woven in via yarn needle. Not to mention how much time that whole process will take. Over the years I have spent countrless hundreds of dollars on this yarn, and I guess you have to expect a dud once in a while, but as this was the last skein I needed to finish the project I m working on, it was especially irritating. I didn t want to resort to leaving a bad review, but I couldnt find any other remedy on the Amazon website. No return policy. I couldn t find a link to Caron to explain my problem either. Maybe in the future I will just deal with Caron directly instead of Amazon. Anyway, it really is good yarn. Soft & good quality with a great color selection. I just ended up with a dud skein. I wouldn t mind getting a replacement skein, but I don t know what the chances of that are. I guess I ll cross my fingers that what I salvaged is enough to finish my project! 1This is perfect for peachy skin tones for amigurumi and crochet dollsThis is perfect for skin tones for amigurumi and crochet dolls! I have experimented with multiple types of yarn in different peach, cream, and beige variations, but I found 'Caron's Simply Soft Yarn - Light Country Peach' to be the most natural color for peachy skin. Attached is a photo of a few of the many dolls I've made using this yarn color!sweetsofties.comFacebook.com/SweetSoftiesInstagram: @SweetSoftiesEtsy.com/shop/Sylemn 5Worst yarn everThe whole skein is knotted up. Can only crochet couple of mins before have to untangle the yarn. Giving up & tossing it. Worst yarn ever 1
