Customer Reviews

And now, with instructions in English!Makes a great cup of cappuccino. Some of the reviews said that there were no or poor instructions. Well, now it has instructions with diagrams in multiple languages. The English instructions are easy to follow, but do follow them!Nice product, especially considering that the similar, if not identical, Stella Cappuccina is over $110.00.I may be 5 or 6 of these and give them as Christmas gifts. 5WORTH IT!after having my craigslist espressso machine die out, i decided to give this one a shot after reading the great reviews. let me tell you, the reviews speak the truth. i absolutely LOVE this cappucino maker!!!! it's smaller and easier to store this little pot. it doesn't take up all the counter space like a traditional machine. it is VERY easy to clean! instead of pulling apart those horrible annoying little pieces for the milk frother like most machines and having to put it through the monthly vinegar cleaning and wipe down the machine, i can just wash this entire thing in the sink! the ease of cleaning makes it worth it alone!!! it's great because i can wash it entirely, and then set it up to be ready for the stove the next day (minus adding the milk of course). the frother does a FANTASTIC job and doesn't clog up like many machines i've used. i like that i can truly take this little pot with me anywhere unlike most espresso machines. i could probably take it camping if i wanted. and the price compared to most espresso machines is even better!when i froth the milk, i use cold milk. you wont need much, just 1 or 1 1/2 of the red cap. i froth it for about 30 seconds. i use an old electric stove for mine which i set to right between medium and low the minute i get up for the day. after frothing the milk for 30 seconds, i put the pot right on and time it for 10 minutes. (like i said, i have an old stove, so it takes a bit to heat up, your time might be different) by the time i come back, it's ready to go! so much easier than having to stand there and froth the milk with a traditional machine!!! the pot is similar to a stove top percolator so if you have experience with those, this machine will be a snap to use. you'll know it's ready when the condensation from the cold milk on the pot disappears, the milk bubbles up a bit and you can hear the water boiling. might take a few attempts, but once you get the hang of it, it's so much easier than a traditional machine. 5Awesome little cappuccino maker!!!I am so glad I gave this little pot a try! Even my first cup turned out pretty good. I love the fact that it is stainless steel rather than aluminum. I have it pretty fine tuned now and am very happy to say I just love the cappuccino that this all in one pot puts out! And, this is after spending over 5 weeks in Italy at my daughter's! I just wish it was a little bigger for two cups at a time but since I'm the only coffee drinker in my house it doesn't really matter that much. Some key things to do:1. First I turn my electric burner on to medium heat. Then fill filtered water up to the bottom of the vent into the bottom piece.2. I am using Gevalia's Brand of Espresso Coffee for my cappuccinos. I have absolutely no problem with this Espresso 'grind' seeping through the filter into the water like another posted. I fill it with a small teaspoon and then I do tamp it down a little, not tight. Put the filter into the bottom piece and then attach the top piece placing the frother into the top.3. Like the directions state, I use 2 full lid measurements of cold 1% milk. Put the lid on top. I like my froth really creamy and this frother will do this, it just might take longer than the 20 sec it recommends. I pump the frother until I feel it start to get fairly thick and puff up the sides about two-thirds up. Remove the lid.4. DO NOT FORGET to pull up the metal ball stopper at the top of the frother handle. Very Important! Otherwise, your coffee will not perk correctly. Then place on the burner and set a timer for 5 min.5. Then listen to hear when it starts to perk from the bottom. I only allow it to perk for a couple of minutes tops, so that enough water is perked up from the bottom into the top, too much longer though and the coffee will taste burnt I have heard. The froth will have tiny bubbles bursting on top, too.6. Here is where I have found this little extra step to help a lot! Because you cannot let this coffee perk too long, it does not allow the milk to warm up to a nice temp leaving it luke warm at best. So, after adding a little teaspoon of sugar to the bottom of a nice good size thick coffee cup, pour your cappuccino into the cup scraping out the froth over the top with the frother. Stir the sugar in under the froth, then put it directly into my microwave and heat it for 25 sec. This is just enough time to put it at a nice coffee temp and it actually puffs up the froth a little more.7. I then top it off with a little bit of cocoa sprinkled on top! Perfection!Hope this helps! Enjoy!!! 5Great results, if you Read The InstructionsUsed this camping, great coffee very fast. I've had many other versions of this kind of device, and this did what it was supposed to do -- if you read the instructions; I forgot to pull the little silver ball up one time, and the results were awful, but that was not the fault of the pot. Make sure to clean the milk residue off with hot water right away, otherwise, it's a pain to clean. Experiment with the grind size, too fine is worse than too coarse. Can't beat the price. 5Great Inexpensive Stove top Cappuccino makerAs much as I hate junk from China, you can no longer buy the real one made in by Stella. This is knock off of a $120 Italian made unit. The company never recovered from an earthquake that destroyed its manufacturing facility in northern Italu. I have purchased 4 of these and take one when I travel so I don't have to pay $4.50 at Starbucks. I can't imagine how the one reviewer claims his exploded. There are 2 ways for pressure to escape the unit. 1. Through the stem the way it should escape normally. The valve is pulled up to close the breather hole which is used for frothing the milk. The espresso travels up the inside of the stem from the moka pot then then down the outside of the stem into the frothed milk. 2. There is a pressure relief valve on the pot that will release at a certain pressure in the event that the stem becomes blocked. Water must only be filled to the bottom of the valve or it will not work. This is standard with any stove top espresso maker. I must also disagree with the review that said it was a poor design. It is a brilliant design by the metallurgist that started the company back in the 1920's. I gave it a 4 because it is actually made well for China, but a comparison to a real Stella will reveal some of its short comings. For instance the coffee basket works fine but the holes are a bit bigger and not as neat as an original. Also, the threads on the pot did not mesh nicely on one unit. The price is unbeatable and I have been using the first one I bought for 3 years. They make a nice gift for the coffee enthusiast. It does take some practice to get it to work correctly but it makes great cappuccino. 4This thing is AWESOME!!OK, I admit I was a little leery b/c this item looked like a sketchy product from an off-brand distributor (cornballer, anyone?), but so far I've been pleasantly surprised.1. It makes EXCELLENT milk foam--it's so creamy, it's almost like whipped cream. But a warning or two: first, you must manually pump the top to make the foam. Not a big deal, but I bought the unit thinking it was a "fill it up, turn it on" kind of thing. You only have to pump for about 20 seconds, but still, I'm lazy. Second, if you like warm foam, you should heat the milk first. If you make it as directed, the foam will be cold b/c the milk is straight out of the fridge.2. The directions were very easy to follow. I am by no means an expert at making coffee drinks, but I found the process pretty basic: fill the bottom tank with water, fill the filter with espresso, screw the top on, insert the frother, add milk, close lid, pump milk and then heat.3. This is a stovetop unit, not an electric one. I assumed it was the latter, for some reason.4. It was pretty easy to clean. Just rinse off, and if there's any milk residue, wipe while rinsing.I would've liked to give it 4.5 stars--it would've been 5 if I could plug it in and didn't need to manually create the foam, like the williams-sonoma bialetti one. but i did just watch their video on the williams-sonoma website, so i might just try not pumping it to see if it creates some foam on its own.LOVE IT!------UPDATE: 2/12/2012------1. the foam is best when the milk is cold. i tried heating 6 oz of milk for 1:30 minutes which brought it to a good temp, but the foam was not as good. i heat the milk for 1 minute now before frothing and it warms it enough to be acceptable and get a decent foam (but still not as great when it's cold). and it does need to be pumped in order to create foam.2. i made the mistake of forgetting to pull up the knob before setting on the stovetop. so i pulled it off too early and most of the water was still in the bottom tank. so then i put it back on, but left it on too long. the coffee sank into the bottom tank and burnt on the bottom! it took forever to get most of the burnt crud off...i used hot water, barkeeper's best friend and scrubbed. still no luck. repeated a couple times and then had to run vinegar thru a few cycles and it no longer tastes like burnt coffee. bottom line: REMEMBER TO PULL UP THE KNOB. 4My stovetop cappucino maker is great. It's hands on and not techieI ordered this on a whim, based on the positive reviews. My stovetop cappucino maker is great. It's hands on and not techie, but I think the coffee produced is much better than from other much pricier machines. Its small and the pieces look like high quality. Overall, I'm extremely glad I purchased this and highly recommend. The unit is also small enough that it fits easily in a cupboard and stored out of sight. It is for personal or two person use only. 5It's beautiful and useful! Very well made pot!I can't believe it took me that long to find this pot. I've been using a lot of stove top epresso maker, from moka pot to Kamira. I tried to find a quiet, simple coffee maker for my office but I didn't sastify with the previous options until I found this pot. It's very easy to use and you have everything in one. It's just tricky a bit because the milk covered the coffee so you don't see it when the coffee come out but you always can listen to it. Because I have experience with the moka pot so I know when the coffee is finished. There is one detail review about how to make the coffee taste better. The instruction will give you a bitter taste coffee. It happened with my moka pot too, if I cooked it on high. So keep the heat medium low. When you hear the water boiling, you can wait about 1 minute and then off the heat and let the coffee continue to come out.I noted the box and the instruction turned yellow so o think it's an old new stock. The company who made it doesn't exist anymore. I feel so lucky to own a piece of history coffee making 5Great little coffee maker! For less than 10 bucks this thing is great. Yeah, you have to manually froth the milk and it's a little bit of a pain to clean as the milk tends to stick to the vertical tube, but it works very well and I'm about to order another one to take on vacation. My only complaint is that the handle gets hot and you have to use a pot holder. 5So easy to use!I can't get over how low cost yet well built and easy to use this is. It's all stainless steel except the pieces that do not go on the stove top. It's pretty and can be left out on the counter if you want. The whole thing can go into your dishwasher. Reading the instructions make it sound difficult because they are written in so much detail, but use it once and you'll realize how super easy it is to use. 5
