Good kettle with an annoying lidA great value for a quick-heating electric kettle.Kettle disconnects from powered base for easy pouring and cleaning. Lid is designed to stay in place and tilts at the center on two small posts to open and fill. This would make cleaning difficult if mine lasted long enough to need cleaning.Unfortunately one of my pivot posts broke off the lid on second or third filling when I released the lid lock switch. I had not previously removed the lid or stressed the posts in any way prior to the failure. Whether this is just an unfortunate event or a material and design flaw is unknown. Unfortunately this made it pretty much impossible to use the lid to cover liquid or keep heat in while boiling water.It was still a good kettle, but it was let down by flaws that plagued a fancy design. KISS, I always say! 4Stopped working in less than 6 weeks!This is the perfect size and weight for my sore hands. However, the last 2 weeks ( I got it early September), no matter how many times I turn it on - it clicks off within 10 seconds. I came here to return it and see that I m 10 days too late. SHAME ON BODUM for making a product like this. 1THREE UNITS - ALL HAVE FAILED! DO NOT BUY!DO NOT PURCHASE. I have now ordered three of these because I like the way they look.Each one has suddenly and inexplicably stopped working!I have asked Bodum for a credit since I obviously do not want a fourth unit that is only going to fail, and they are refusing.Bad product, bad company, stay away. 1FIRE HAZARD. BUYER BEWARE!UPDATE: fire hazard!!! This pitcher has been great for heating water. Recently I noticed it was NOT TURNING OFF! I hear water in it, pour it over my coffee, open the lid, and then set it back on the base. Usually I hear the power switch click as the kettle finishes boiling the water which is good. Recently tho I have come home to find that the kettle was ON FOR OVER EIGHT HOURS!!! I really cannot believe that this product is legal at this point in time. How can a switch fail so easily to result in a heating coil being on for hours without a fail safe mechanism??? After inspecting the powered on kettle it appears that the mechanical switch to turn it on is problematic and doesn t actually shut offnautomatically like it is supposed to. Now I have to make sure that the kettle is not stored on its base to ensure that it s not on. The disturbing issue here is that the power light is not on while the kettle is powered on in OFF mode. Luckily this kettle just sits on an open counter in my kitchen so after it was powered on for a day there was nothing in proximity. I would hope that bodum tracks this sort of feedback and fixes their product as this is a significant safety issue.Original review:This kettle has been great. Very simple to use and heats water quickly. Been using for about one month now and it has been great. I ve found bodum products to be very good and this kettle was no exception to this trend. 1Stylish. And deadly.We've had it 5 months and it's dead. It was always pretty slow to boil, even before the problems started. First the brew indicator light died within a month. Now it turns itself on and off randomly -- NOT exactly safe. Plus there's a nice smell of burning plastic.UPDATE: we contacted Bodum directly and they were good enough to send us a replacement kettle. (We couldn't get a refund, since we hadn't bought the kettle directly from them.) We'll keep it in case our new kettle fails at some point, but we're not too excited about using it, given the previous problems. 1It stopped working after a few months with burning smell.After a few months' occasional use, it stopped working with burning smell. I found the one of the wire connected to the heating coil was burned and disconnected. I contacted Bodum customer service, nobody answered, however they sent me an email to ask me how I would rate the support I received. Well, I did not receive anything at all.Now I realized this product was manufactured pretty poorly. It may cause a fire hazard. If you already bought it, please be careful. 1Great traveling / portable kettleBought this for our vacation because, let's face it, hotels don't have hot water for tea, and if you choose to use the in-room coffee maker to heat up water, your tea tastes terrible. I now use it also when I go to book club / crafting meetings at the library and need to bring my own kettle.This is what I love about it: 1. It's lightweight and heats water up quickly. 2. The kettle is separate from its base so you aren't constrained by the cord. 3. It's small and doesn't take up a lot of room. 4. It's nice looking, very sleek 5. It heats up 17 ounces of water at a time, more than enough for a standard mug. 5. It's held up to a LOT of traveling and abuse and still works perfectly.Here are some negatives: 1. Cord is REALLY short. You may need an extension cord. 2. Keep an eye on it. Sometimes it forgets that the water is boiling and won't automatically shut off. 3. If you're boiling water for more than 1 person, the capacity can be too small - get the bigger version.It's a great kettle for frequent travelers or anyone who has a small space. Nice gift for someone with a dorm room or small apartment. 5Flimsy and poorly designedI usually love Bodum products and own several, but this kettle is a disappointment. It leaks water from the handle. The lid is not easy to remove for cleaning. And today, the lid finally broke because the pin for the hinge is flimsy plastic--designed too small to be durable. I've had this less than a year, and already, I'll have to throw it away. I won't be buying Bodum products in the future. 1UnsafeThere are several things I like about this small tea kettle. The size is perfect to make tea for one, I noticed no plastic odor or taste, and it brings the water to a boil very quickly. The one star review is because the switch is defective and the auto-shutoff feature does not work at all. It will happily boil away all the water you put in it and the element will stay hot indefinitely. This is a huge safety problem. Plus, the switch must be manually reset to the off position after you pour out the water before you replace the kettle on the base. It should automatically reset when the unit is removed from the base as is the case with every other electric tea kettle I've ever seen. So bottom line is that this product is defective. 1Perfect for one cup brew So far so great!!! I have this on my desk to boil just enough water for me to have a cup of tea every so often... and I must say this is perfect... if you want to make tea of coffee with out making the big pot then this is the way to go... and it is HOT when you pour. Be very carful around children. The water only takes about 2 mins to get super hot 5
