So great I now have 3 different sizes! This little coffee maker is the absolute least expensive method to get anywhere near an espresso machine. No k-cups, no capsules, no filters needed. Just add a couple scoops of coffee and you're set. The cup size can be misleading to some, but consider them as cups of espresso. The 1-cup Bialetti produces just two ounces of very strong coffee. If you drink a lot of coffee you may need to step up to the 3-cup to scratch your itch. Over the years I have acquired the one, three, and six cup models. I find the 3-cup is perfect for me and the 6-cup is great for entertaining.Nearly unchanged since 1933 its been said you'd have a difficult time walking into a house in Italy without finding one of these in the kitchen. Make this purchase and you'll soon find out why. 5The Moka is a Great way to Make CoffeeNow I own 3 Bialetti Moka coffee makers. The first was a gift from my cousin in Italy. I used it daily for over a year, but had to stop because it needs a new gasket. Unfortunately, it is a size that is sold only in Europe. The second one I bought myself. My wife make tiramisu which requires large amounts of strong coffee. I use this bigger Moka for tiramisu and sometimes get it out when friends come over for the evening. The third one is the one-cup Moka. I bought it for daily use. These things are very easy to use. If you grind your own coffee, use a grind that is almost as fine as an espresso grind. The coffee should be heaped in the basket, but not tamped. Water should go up to the valve in the lower chamber. Use medium-low heat on the stove. Within minutes you will hear it working. When you hear it gurgle, your coffee is ready. Pour into a small cup, add heated milk, and enjoy your day. 5Delicious results from a wonderfully simple Bialetti Moka Express! I purchased the Bialetti Moka Express some years back, and didn't put in the time to understand how to effectively use it. It sat, neglected, on a higher shelf in my cabinet, and I opted instead to make coffee in a Bodum coffee press or, more frequently, get a cappuccino or latte at a local cafe.Recently, I pulled out the Bialetti Moka Express and gave it another go after reading up a bit, and I love the results!I start by filling the lower chamber with filtered water, just below the valve. Our local water, passed through a three stage RO filter, tastes just fantastic!I set my Capresso 565.05 Infinity Conical Burr Grinder to the coarsest of the extra fine grinds (two clicks from the left), and gind one scoop of beans. It is important to use freshly ground coffee from beans that were recently roasted (ideally not more than 2-3 weeks old). I have been using the Hair Bender roast from Stumptown Coffee. Vigilante Coffee, Rare Bird Coffee Roasters, and Counter Culture Coffee all offer some wonderful roasts. Select something that resonates with your palette.I place the ground coffee beans in the funnel. I don't tamp, but I do use my finger to gently level the grounds before screwing on the top chamber.I set the smallest burner on my stove to just below medium heat, so that the flame is not larger than the base of the Bialetti Moka Express, and start the brew.I open the cover of the top chamber as the espresso starts to brew. When I see bubbles without much espresso coming up through the opening, I turn off the heat and pour the espresso into a small cup. Note that one cup equates to about two ounces of espresso, which is just right for one serving. I then add about as much unsweetened soy milk, but the espresso can be enjoyed by itself or with a milk preparation of your choice.I haven't timed it, but I don't think it takes more than five minutes for the espresso to brew.I don't get as rich a crema as you may get from an espresso machine, but I also appreciate the simplicity of the preparation. Bottom line is that I love the taste of the espresso I get out of the Bialetti Moka Express!I completely take apart the Bialetti Moka Express for cleaning immediately afterward, including the gasket at the bottom of the top chamber. I wash all of the parts of the Bialetti Moka Express with just hot water, except for the gasket. For the gasket, I use a sponge and a mild dish soap. The one cup size is perfect for me, as I'm generally just making coffee for myself in the morning. But I plan to get a larger Bialetti Moka Express for when I have company! 5Excellent QualityThe Original Bialetti Moka Express Made in Italy 1-Cup Stovetop Espresso Maker with Patented Valve I love the Bialetti espresso maker. I ordered this in 1cup as I was just wanting to try it out even though I've read and seen great reviews about the product. I decided to buy this because I wanted to make my own Americano (since I hate drips and getting tired of instant coffee). I spend $20+ a week buying coffee and would like to start saving money even little steps at a time. So far, I love it and I need a bigger one! This is approximately 4" height which is just good for 1 cup literally. I want 2 shots in my coffee, so I think 2-cups would do it. I highly recommend this masterpiece. 5Counterfeit?Something is fishy here. First off, I noticed that this is metal is more lightweight than my old, tried and true Bialetti. Secondly, the handle literally melted. What the heck? I compared it to my colleague's Bialetti, which also appears to be fairly new, and sure enough, the metal is heavier and the bottom is slightly more rounded, rather than the one I have which has a more "crisp" edge. Are these knock-offs? 2I don't hate it! BUTJust needed to alert everyone that the product description is deceiving. I don't hate it! BUT...It is not a returnable item, and for the price - I'm not happy to be stuck with it. It states 1 cup, and most would assume 1 cup = 8oz. It is 1 cup Cuban style... This expresso maker has about a 2oz capacity, which will fill a Cuban cup equivalent to a shot of coffee. I don't drink expresso cups straight up. I add expresso (apprx 2-3) shots to my latte, so I will need what they call a 3 cup. At least. 1Beauty in simplicityI use this almost every day. I would probably purchase the next size up next time but this is small and easy to make great coffee. Once I got used to it's "I'm done!" noise, I have been quite happy with the results. I do use it on a gas stove and place it on the corner of my smallest burner so the handle doesn't get hot too. I'm not sure how well it would work on an electric stove though... same idea? Do yourself a favor, once cool enough to touch, breakdown and clean. There is a gasket between the top and bottom and you don't want to have constant pressure on it or you will need to replace it sooner. Keep it clean and ready to go for a pretty quick demi-cup of excellent coffee. 5Love my Moka pots!I own three Bialetti moka pots (6 cup, 3 cup, and 1 cup). I've been using them exclusively to brew my morning coffee for the last two years. The 3 cup is the one I use most frequently, as it is enough to make two strong servings of coffee for me. The 1-cup is very tiny, tinier than I expected it would be. I use it for an afternoon pick-me-up because it's just enough to wake me up, but not enough to keep me up all night. I dilute the coffee with steamed milk. I've tried hot water, but didn't care for it as much. There are a lot of very informative reviews on this moka pot, so I'm not going to repeat what others have already stated regarding brewing techniques, cleaning, types of coffee beans, etc. There is a little bit of a technique to the brewing process, but don't be intimidated by some of the crazy videos online. It's not that hard and doesn't have to be as involved as some tutorials make it seem. I've used the moka pots on gas stoves and electric glass cooktops and it works perfectly on both. As others have said, make sure the handle is not directly over the heat or it will melt. One thing I didn't realize when I purchased my first moka pot (6-cup) was that you cannot brew half a pot. You have to fill the chamber up entirely with grounds or it won't work. That is why I ended up purchasing a smaller pot because the 6-cup was too much coffee for me to drink in one day.Bottom line: If you enjoy strong coffee and you're brewing for one person, I'd recommend the 3-cup. If you're brewing for two, get the 6-cup. You won't regret it! 5To Moka, or not to Moka...We have been using Bialetti Moka pots for many decades. I ordered this to replace my 30 year old pot that had seen better days. The handle burned off, so I replaced it with a wooden one that I cut on my scroll saw ;-) Poor old thing was really starting to show it's age, so we finally decided to replace it. My other coffee maker is a Rancilio Silvia ($650 difference in price), but I still bring out the Moka pot when I just want a quick and good cup of espresso. Be sure to order a few replacement gaskets as they do wear out over time with frequent use. 5Review for the "1 cup" Moka sizeFirst impressions:When I first took this product out of the box I was very surprised at how tiny it was. This name of this product has the word "1 cup" in it but it actually makes 1/4 cup. To be fair, the seller did but this in the description (0.2 oz/ enough for 1 shot of espresso). The misleading product name is why I gave this 4 and not 5 stars.Function:Functions perfectly so far. Seems to be made of a solid metal that's not flimsy at all. I've been making iced lattes by pouring 1 shot of espresso over ice and oat milk. Delicious! Because the espresso maker is so small, keep your stove burner on low because the handle is made of plastic. A plus to having such a small size is that the water boils almost immediately. You'd think that you could make another shot right away if you wanted to make a double shot mocha or latte, but it will be hot so you'll have to wait 5 minutes. 4
