Customer Reviews

I love it. A very compact way to store and retrieve 4.75" disks. Includes ability to print your list very easily. This is a great way to store and easily retrieve CDs, DVDs, or Blu-ray disks. It is very compact, holding 80 disks easily, with a selector to pick just the right one according to number (even number show, the odd ones are selected by putting the selector between two evens). There is a pull-out drawer with a paper where you can write the contents of each disk. Better still is access to mydiscgear.com where you can enter titles on your computer and print out (and trim) your list whenever you make changes. Using the PC method, you can fit more info (artist/title for instance) than when you write, and it looks neater. The selector is great at grabbing the correct disk, and leaves no marks on the disk. If you plan to make changes on a regular basis, I recommend buying a Fiskar or other brand inexpensive paper cutter to trim the printout more accurately, so that it fits neatly into the clear plastic holder. By the way, the printout results are identical in size to the original, so it makes trimming easy--especially with a paper cutter. I use it to store copies I make (legally) of music that I download, mostly classical. I love it. 5Does Not Latch ClosedThe Atlantic 85012055 Disc Manager is as described in the product listing, but that listing neglects to mention that there is no way to latch the lid in the closed position. Given the shape of the unit and the relatively smooth texture, this means that if care is not taken moving the unit, there's a fair chance of spilling the discs. This would possibly result in damage, and would definitely negate the organization advantages. If this were solved, this would easily be a five-star product. 4Loved it so much I got 5 more!Got my first one through Amazon's warehouse. Thought, "Let me give this a shot. Who knows, I might like it." I LOVED it! I just finished going through my entire DVD collection (6 of these Disc Managers later). Since my wife and daughter are visual, I made a nice little flip book to go with each container so that they can see what is inside. I also made a google spreadsheet so that I can print out my own pull-out lists (I never even looked at their electronic version, so I have no idea how good it is). Now, all of my DVDs are right there for easy access and I have already been watching them a lot more. Wow, I had some good stuff I forgot all about! Like the Canadian HBO show "The Hitchhiker". What a classic.Since I am unlikely to get many more DVDs, this product helped me simplify my collection and free up an entire bookcase. I am also thinking of getting one for CDs and Wii games. 5Fabulous Organizational ToolI absolutely love these! Yes, they're a bit more pricey than getting one big book, but when you're dealing with 500+ DVDs, sorting through books and thumbing through pages gets tedious to the point that you could have watched the movie by the time you've found the one you're looking for. Tada: solution!I picked up several of these and decorated them a little on the outside, giving them bin numbers. I realized early on that there was no possible way I was going to keep reorganizing every time I added in movies (my OCD wanted alphabetization, but it just wasn't happening). I started trying to keep most series together, but some of them were still making sequels and I just gave up trying. Instead, I picked up the My Movies app from the Android market which had software for PC/Mac and an online list that all sync. I was able to make categories for each disc (Bin 1, Bin 2...) and picked a column number associated with the disc number in the bin. This way, I could easily locate my movies by finding them in the app or on the computer and seeing the category/column associated with it - I'm feeling Alien tonight, oh, that's in Bin 4, column 23...score! The app alphabetizes, filters, and serves my organizational insanity while the bins work great to store my discs. Win, win. There are several different apps and types of software you can get that will serve this function. You could also make your own spreadsheet easily enough and store it on Google Drive, Box, whatever for easy access from phone/computer.The case itself is pretty darn sturdy in my opinion. Out of the four I own, (I'm ordering more soon), they all arrived in great shape, no damage, no marks, and functional. The slider is super easy to move and the top opens easily, pulling my intended disc up for easy access. They look great and are presentable (unlike huge books that flop over and look tacky). They do not stack, which is a little depressing for storage purposes, but they wouldn't be functional if they did. You'd have to remove the one you wanted out of the stack in order to open it and access your disc. If you do not have a lot of room for a bunch of these and have a large collection, you may want to consider a different option. I've simply incorporated several shelves into our media wall where I store each of these on a separate shelf (leaving room for more). Having a bookshelf or cabinet would work fine as well. They're not very large, but you do want to consider further expansion.Personally, I don't use the included card for the discs and I've checked out the page with the software. It's very restrictive in the size and fonts and you'd be better off making your own that you can customize as others have suggested. A simple spreadsheet to fit the pull out tray works great. I rely on the My Music app. Right now, I have a bunch of discs waiting for more of these storage bins and it's always a groan when I want to watch one that's currently in the book instead. :P It's amazing how quickly you become used to these bins and their ease of access and organization. If you're on the fence about it, definitely pick one up and try it out. :) 5It works, but there is definitely room for improvementIt works well enough, but there are a couple features missing that I really liked on my previous disc storage manager.1) The top doesn't "click"/latch shut. This means that if you're moving your disks somewhere, you have to be careful that it won't open during travel.2) You can't "lock" the lid shut. Again, this might present a problem when moving it, or if you have children, they can open it. The previous disk manager I had had a little plastic key that "locked" the lid.3) It doesn't stack. The previous disk manager I had legs that could click into place on top of another one, so you could stack multiple sets together.I guess those are the only complaints I have. Nothing major, just a couple things that annoy me. I'd link the previous one I had, but I can't find it anywhere (I think I purchased it from Target +15 years ago). 3How to solve the 2 biggest user problems. How to: 1) Lid coming open inadvertently: Hardware departments (Home Depot, Ace, etc.) have little latches that can be glue on - one of each side.To open just use a hand on each side to undo latch. Voila! 2) No need to re-organize when you get new disks. Build a simple table using easily using some basic database or even Excel. Then construct reports based on, say, genre, name, artist. Report will list location of disk by storage unit and position in that unit. It really is simple to do. Very easy to setup - just time consuming if you have quite a few disks.I just bought a fourth one of these cases. Very well made. Not cheap. Looks like they will last. A real Godsent! Have tried a lot of different ways to organize my disks. These, again, are great. 5Absolutely love these thingsAbsolutely love these things! We have nine of them! We have a very extensive movie collection and these have been a god send! First we had the movies in their cases and it would take us 30 minutes to find a movie to watch. Then we tried taking them out of their cases and putting them in a DVD/CD holder book. The books ended up heavy and we still needed 8 of them to hold all the movies. Also it was frustrating to think we had a movie and then go through all the books and still not find it.Using the disc manager we can create a complete list of all of our movies and easily find them in the holders. They have a neat feature with the slider that pulls the movie up for you once you have selected one to watch. It comes with instructions to make a movie list online but we made our own in excel. We labeled each disc manager by letter so we can keep them straight. Our excel list has the disc Manager letter, numbers 1-80 for disc position, name of movie and genre. We printed the list by movie name and by genre and keep it in a report folder next to the disc managers. When we add another disc manager or movie we just update and reprint the list. Now we can find movies in seconds and actually watch them all! 5Piece of junk! This product had many great reviews, better than any other cd case i could find, so i was really exited to recieve this... however the plastic is cheap, the cds rattle around in this container, there is no way to lock this closed so if it falls off a shelf or slips out of your hands youll be playing "80 cd pick up" plus i seriously doubt this could handle a small drop and not shatter itself, next the cd edges rub together in the case, and you have to rub them against eachother to get them in the right slot, that cant be good..., all in all the best built part of this was the card board box it came in, i originally bought these because i wanted to save space since im moving but now im just more stressed, i would get a full return on this but as i am moving soon and it would just be too inconvinient 1Excellent value, good design, superb qualityAfter accumulating over 450 CDs and 200+ DVDs, my wife and I decided to organize them once and for all. Looking around at the various options, this product made the most sense. I stacked the CD/DVD artwork and papers in sandwich bags, labeling them with the same designator as the CD container, gave the diamond cases away, and put the discs into this organizer. Man, is it ever convenient. The case is really good quality, the selector works just as advertised, and it is built like a tank. The key in using this is organization. Instead of the online software provided by the company, and it is fine, I used a spreadsheet. A little bit of experimentation to get the printout size right was all it took. I can then do searches in my spreadsheet software to find where in the collection a particular disc is. Once that is set up, each disc container is another sheet in the file.Using this system does bring forth another constraint: Listing the discs in order is challenging to say the least. We were all 'gung ho' to file every disc away alphabetically. Well, that leads to the problem of inserting new CDs. You also have to allow space in each disc organizer to a put in new discs. Pretty soon, the logistics become overwhelming We finally gave up, and we simply put discs in as we buy them and write in the title, adding it to the database. When we get one full, we printout the list. We then perform searches as described above. Seems to be the least trouble overall.I highly recommend this product. We have already bought 12 and will probably be buying more soon.Best regards,John Price 5Nice looking affordable storage solutionI bought this in March 2017 and it's still looks brand new (pics are recent). I use it to hold Xbox one and Xbox 360 games, but I'll be buying another soon to hold all of my dvds. I included some general measurements for anyone trying to fit it in a particular spot. The base sticks out slightly more than the round housing part as shown in one of the side views. The case itself looks very nice, much better than a bunch of game or DVD cases on the shelf and you can't beat the price. As some others have mentioned it is just loose on the hinges so you'll probably accidentally slam it shut a few times, but it's holding up great despite that. The games all have their own slot with nice spacing between and none of them have been damaged since I've used it. It was really easy to go onto their website and make a directory for my games too. To remove a game you simply find the corresponding number in the directory, hold down the tab as you slide it to the number, release the tab, and then the game will be lifted as you raise the lid. I just roll the games back into their empty slot when I'm done with them. I definitely recommend this product for anyone looking to tidy up games, DVDs, or CDs. 5
