Customer Reviews

After installation of the APEC system our water dropped down to a super low 16ppm After extensive research and customer reviews I can confidently say I made the right choice, this system has exceeded my expectations. Our contaminated town water had a 260ppm rating and even with the use of a PUR facet filter system it still had a 260ppm reading! After installation of the APEC system our water dropped down to a super low 16ppm! The taste is great now and pH cartridge is a must have addition to get the mineral health benefits. My son installed our system and though having no experience with plumbing or setting up water systems he found the installation to be straight forward and the paper instructions well laid out and easy to understand. Everything needed was provided and there were no surprises. The connections are all solid and leak free (he suggests to not over-tighten the hardware and make sure the plastic tubing is cut straight and pushed firmly into each connector). The system operates quietly and you will experience the best taste when the filters are fully activated after flushing 2-3 tanks, in our case.Overall this system has made a huge improvement in our water quality and the fact that its 100% made in the USA by a company who looks after its customers and charities best interests is something worth supporting. 5Great Water system for home. This system is very good. Our water taste so much better. We don't have to go get bottled water no more. Set up was easy. Color coded tube makes it more easier. Just follow the instructions that comes with the product and make sure keep an eye on the addendum on the instructions because I think they updated the product and made necessary changes.I run into some problems after the installation. Water is coming out white/cloudy. I researched what caused the problem and found out that that is normal when setting up new system. It was because of the air trapped in check valve. But after draining the system 3 times my water was crystal clear.A holder for the filter wrenches would be a great addition to the design. 5If I Can Install It .....I am a 60+ year old female, with an arthritic right hand in a 1931 bungalow home. Anyone who owns an old home knows there will always be the unexpected lurking when working on the house - so I went into this project anticipating a few hiccups. Since I was going to be working in the kitchen, I decided it would be a good time to put in a new sink with larger basins. I also upgraded to the APEC Ceramic Disc Designer faucet, which turned out to be the most challenging part of installation despite the fact that I mounted the faucet prior to setting the sink. The ceramic disc faucet is definitely worth the upgrade because it has a heavier/sturdier feel. Faucet installation would have been a breeze had the instructions been clearer and not so intuitive. But after three attempts - it is nice and secure !I have never worked on my back, in a cabinet, under a kitchen sink. Despite this disadvantage/learning curve; installation of the APEC Reverse Osmosis system was a snap and took no time at all and thanks to the very thorough instructions, online videos, and "common sense" manner of the design. When I turned on the water supply, the first housing had a steady leak. I called APEC and was speaking to a real live person in less than 15 seconds. WOW !! Assured it was probably a missing O-ring (a quick glance proved it was), I was promised a replacement would be sent out ASAP. A confirmation email immediately appeared in my inbox including a tracking number for the shipment. WOW Again !! (Thankfully, later that evening after calling APEC, the "missing" O-ring was spotted under a kitchen stool and the system was up and running ... leak free in minutes.)As instructed, I emptied the first 4 tanks of water and it has subsequently been a wonderful first week enjoying delightfully crisp, delicious, clean water right from a sink faucet. I did not test my water as many other reviewers have done. APEC's great reviews and the taste of my water was proof enough the system was making vast improvements to my tap water quality.I have already recommended the APEC Reverse Osmosis systems to several co-workers and my son will be receiving one soon as an early holiday gift. If you are on the fence about buying and installing an APEC water filter system, I can attest to the installation ease (assuming you have a good layout under your sink). And if the product information does not immediately prompt you .... the APEC Customer Service definitely will. I cannot remember such outstanding telephone service since the 1970's.5Water Tastes Fine, System Leaks Terribly! I hired a plumber to install, it took him a little over an hour to install. It would have taken me a lot longer, and I m fairly handy. The water tastes good after disposing of several tank fulls of water. The really frustrating issue is that it LEAKS, leaks terribly. It especially leaks around the three canisters that hold the filters. It s also very difficult to work, not to mention messy, with once it's full of water. I ll post an update once I try to fix the leaking, but it s s ridiculously poor design.I absolutely would not recommend this product. But at your own risk. 1Freash, clean, drinking water 24-7! Just bought a new house and this was one of the first investments we made. We are 100% absolutley happy with this RO water system! The water is crystal clear and tastes better and cleaner than bottled water! We had our handyman install the system. It took him approx 2hrs and was able to install the entire system with all of the parts provided. He said that the instructions were well written and easy to follow. Now he wants to buy this product for his home.I also shared this on my social media and now 2 friends have also purchased this system with more friends asking us about it. Too bad APEC doesnt have a referral bonus program...hint hint apec if you're listening.Very happy with this purchase! 5Save cupboard space with this idea!I bought and installed this system on my own. Though I did not do an "official" water test, my unofficial test was leaving my tap water in a glass next to this filtered water in a glass, both out overnight. The tap water tasted HORRID the next morning but the APEC water was wonderfully delicious! I also fill a 3 gallon glass jug with a serving spout and bring it to my office to drink the water there. Sometimes it will sit for a week in the jug as it slowly drains by my drinking with no change in taste!Easy install though I did have an issue with the drain saddle leaking. It turned out a foam seal part that was not mentioned in the instructions anywhere should have been installed on the saddle...which I did and haven't had any trouble since. And, because of that oversight in the instructions, I contacted APEC and shared the problem and they immediately returned my email and said they would send the information to the appropriate department and thanked me for bringing it to their attention. I will say though, despite that missing information, the instructions were awesome and very thorough. I'm a detail kind of person and I appreciated the extra effort put into the install and maintenance instructions. To save space under my sink from the big holding tank, I strapped the tank up under the counter with plastic plumber strap with 8 mounting points. The instructions state that the tank can lay horizontally or vertically so I utilized the horizontal option. I have not had any issues of the tank "wanting to fall" and I have just as much cupboard space as I had before the install! Another option could be installing a shelf to hold the tank up above the cupboard floor.Great product! Great water! Great instructions! Great service from the company! Highly recommend!5Perfect for west TexasI'm very impressed with this unit. It had the most well written and clear instructions. Even though i'm terrible at plumbing, the use of push connects made this job very simple. For the first time in my life, I had no leaks on my first go around! Our tap water here in west Texas is about 830ppm TDS with a strong, terrible taste. You don't drink the tap water here, period. After running this unit for a week i measured the TDS at 40ppm. By comparison, a professional unit that we would typically fill 5 gallon jugs with measured at 75ppm TDS. This unit completely changed my perception of what an in home RO unit can do. They gained a lifelong customer in me!5Good, but installation woes Update 8-20-2017 I did my first full filter set that included the reverse osmosis one. The canister was exceedingly difficult to remove, so much so, that I had to get one of those leather strap style wrenches so one person could hold the unit. After several tries filled with straining and grunting, it finally came looseHad leaks all over the place on this replacment, unlike the first time and second sets that excluded the reverse osmosis set. At next full set replacement I will probably replace the entire unit rather than deal with this issue againUpdate 12+18+2015Still highly satisfied. Would recommend and would buy again, Were it not for the issues I had on install, would 5 star itUpdate 1018-2015 Bumped it from 3 to 4One thing I have noticed is how much clearer the water is when I boil it in a pan. I never realized that there is clear and and then there is CLEAR. Also, the PH has moved up to the high 7s which is where you want it. Like some reviewers, had issues with the faucet coming loose. Had to get under sink to re-tighten the nut and while I did this, I placed a small glob of JB Kwik in the waster where is holds against the bottom of the sink,. This will insure that nothing wiggles but I will still be able to break it loose. No leaking issues, and so far so good. At first filter replacement, I will update againOverall, it appears to work as advertised and this is only the first full day. It reads around 19 TDS, (Added same day as review) The of my unfiltered water is around 8-8.5 PH the filtered water is around 6.5-7 hard to tell with the test strips but definitely on the acid side of neutral The water has a neutral taste, which one would expect. In order to test, I left the waste water hose loose until it shut off to insure that was working properly. I drained the tank by letting the unit run until the output was very low, then let it refill. Only after that second cycle did I drill the hole in the drain and hook the waste water up. It sure gave me a piece of mind to know it was working properly.Although I thought our pressure was low, the unit filled in just 90 minutes, or about half the estimated timeOverall, satisfied, but I took off two stars due to what I consider a bad design decision. I have included what they included in the kit in the first pic, the second pic is what it should have been The irony is that both of these are available from their web siteIn this kit is adapter It has half inch male threads on one side for the sink, the female threads that go to the supply side are larger, I did not measure but something like 3/4 and you have to screw an adpater into it so it will be back down to 1/2inch on the supply side. They also provide a rubber washer that goes inside the whole mess. I think that was the issue for this think was a leaker, and no matter what the heck I did, I could not stop the leak in the area where the 3/4male to 1/2inch female adapter screws in Using the first pic for reference, it is the shot metal threaded piece on the right. I went to home depot for some help thinking that I might have damaged the adapter, but apparently there is no such thing as a half inch female metal compression fitting like this that they carry: Those fittings are normally only found on hoses according to him. Eventually, we did locate a thicker washer that fit more securely into the adapter and I used plumbrs thread sealer instead of teflon tape I STRONGLY recommend using that instead of teflon tape. The grief this adapter caused me took off almost a star by itself.Other than the grief of the adapter was the exceedingly unclear 1 page insert on how to hook up the the device if you had a PH filter on it. That was the item that sealed the fate. The picture was not clear, the instructions did not help.Other than those two items, the filter went together pretty easily. Like some, I did not get a couple of the hoses in place correctly on the quick connect so I had a couple of leakers easily solve by pushing in on the hose so it was fully seated. The entire installation would probably take a skilled do it your selfer less than an hour as the only realy work will be under your own sinkI would buy the product again, and later, after I get a feel for how this thing holds up, I might give a star back, but I think they can do better on the items I described 4Installation was a snap - literallyI was replacing a broken 9 year old reverse osmosis system. I saw where people were complaining about the installation instructions or lack of; however, installation was a breeze just following the color coded diagram. The system was small, compact and fit in the same space as my previous RO. The only time I used the installation instruction was after the installation. I'm glad I did because I found out I had to fill and drain the system several (4) times before use. Maybe that was why people complained about the taste??? I will admit there is a slight "taste" to the water when compared to my previous RO but it's nothing that was unacceptable. Ice came out with minimum "air" and was almost crystal clear. I registered my system and received and additional year of warranty. Hope I don't need it. Happy with this purchase.5Great environmentally-friendly choiceWe used to get the 5-gallon water cooler bottles from Nestle for years. With all the studies about plastics, it became clear that drinking water out of a plastic container that's been holding the drinking water for weeks (and months in some cases as they deliver 10 bottles at a time) wasn't a good choice for us.After researching RO systems, we went with one. They were neither the least expensive, nor the most expensive, but the reviews were great. I can safely tell you that I made a good choice going with Apec . The installation was quite easy (drilling the 7/8 inch hole on our stainless steel sink was the most painful part, the rest snapped on quite well with no leaks). We drained the first two tanks, as the water was still a tad cloudy. Since then, the water has been fantastic. I know what has no taste, but you can actually tell a difference with this unit. We use for it cooking, coffee and for drinking of course. I will not lie, I miss not having instant cold and hot water out of the cooler, but I feel the price you pay is too high.5Worth every penny Recently added the APEC Alkaline RO system to my house and the difference it has made is shocking! The water from our private company where I am located routinely had a "off smell" to it and large amounts of sediment. After installation of the APEC RO system, the water is absolutely pristine! It tastes amazing and I am very glad I went with the Alkaline setup. Installation was simple due to the easy to follow instructions in the provided manual and the color coded tubing and it came with everything needed in the box. The system provides enough pressure to easily function with my Samsung refrigerator and and icemaker. The change in water quality is saving money that was being spent on bottled water and it is now of, what I think, higher quality. I would absolutely recommend this system to others based on the quality of the water and the ease of setup. 5Tastes Great! Less Filling! ProsMakes good tasting waterEliminates buying plastic bottles with BPA in them or going to a water dispenser machine or store to refill heavy jugsHolds enough water in the tank that I can refill the water tank on my Keurig K55 Coffee Maker, fill two 20oz stainless steel water bottles and have a couple of 20oz glasses of water in the morning.ConsMay not fit under your sinkMay need to drill additional hole in sink for dispenserWater clarity or first couple of daysOverall I'm really pleased with this purchase. I was buying cases of both 16oz and 1 gallon plastic water bottles from Costco. I haven't done the math but I'm pretty sure I'm saving money in the long run with this purchase. I definitely cut down on my BPA consumption. As far as replacing the filters go APEC suggests yearly replacement with FILTER-SET-ESPH (4-stages) and replacing all 6-stages every 2-4 years with FIILTER-MAX-ESPH.I am a licensed General Contractor but I feel most people could do this installation in the majority of dwellings with ease. The instructions were easy to follow. In addition it comes with everything you need for most installations. My house was built in 1951 and my sink and drain pipes didn't allow for the under sink installation. I ended up installing mine in a cabinet in my garage. Luckily the cabinet is directly behind the kitchen sink. I prefer this installation as changing the filters will be easier and I get to keep all my under sink storage space! Note: Any holes you place through a wall to the garage need to be sealed with fire rated expanding spray foam so you don't compromise the fire wall rating between your garage and kitchen. I did run a line to my ice maker. I needed to buy a tee and some more tubing. Both of these were at my local Lowes. I also needed to add a hole in my sink for the dispenser. Drilling through a porcelain sink may sound scary but it was quite easy after I purchased a Milwaukee 1/2 in. Diamond Plus Mini Hole Saw at my local Home depot. I didn't run the discharge line to my sewer as the directions state. I ran mine to a rain barrel on the front porch which is on the other side of my cabinet. I use the water to irrigate potted plants, flower beds and the front lawn. The unit discharges 12 gallons for every 4 gallons of drinking water it makes. This may sound like a lot but I haven't noticed an increase in my water bill. When I first ran it the water was cloudy. I read in the answered questions that this is due to air being trapped in the water and it clears after a few uses. Mine became crystal clear in two days. Definitely recommend this product. 5So far so good but I tested the PH in the filtered water ...So far so good but I tested the PH in the filtered water and it showed 5!!! Not what I was expecting. I ordered this system because it supossedly adds minerals back into the water. Has anyone else have the same issue and how was it resolved? thank you.Update: Almost 2 months later and the PH is still at 5, a bright orange color reading. People, be careful when drinking RO water because it strips water off important nutrients and reduces alkalinity. I am calling APEC regarding the PH filter not working. I don't want my family drinking water that is too acidic and "dead" with no minerals.Update: Tested the PH with 3 different methods, strips and drops, and it is still low. I am calling the company to get the extra I paid for the PH filter as it obviously does not work. My tap water tested 7 and the APEC water a 6.4Works Well in Basement Set UpWith the way that my double kitchen sink drains are run, I couldn't fit this in the cabinet under the sink. So, I ran the line from the new RO faucet following the hole in the cabinet to the dishwasher, pulled the dishwasher out, and drilled a hole in the floor behind the dishwasher to the basement. I then hooked up to the water supply in the basement for the refrigerator ice maker (and added a branch so that the refrigerator ice maker uses RO water now using the separately sold APEX ice maker kit), and used the clothes washer drain inlet for the waste water. With this system being located on the wall in the basement, it is a good 6 or 7 feet below the sink and still has a great flow rate. It also makes the maintenance of changing the filters really easy and accessible.I paid for this product and wasn't compensated in any way for this review. If you found this review helpful, please click on the helpful button below. Thanks!5your joint pains and swelling comes from high PPM water...this thing cures all that crap instantly with a calcium fortifier....took 30 minutes to install because im pretty competent i can see how this would take longer for some people, however its worth it for the quality of water you get with the calcium 6th stage. my hard tap water was 167ppm and my fridge filter water was 133ppm and with this RO 6 stage im leveling out at about 12-16ppm which is perfect and gives the "Fiji" water smooth taste because it refortifies the water with pure calcium which your body uses much better than silicon based additives to smooth the PH out to your taste buds. if it was true 0 water you would get stomach acid build up eventually BUT NOT with this 6th calcium stage....your body will treat this water different and its more usable to the body for hydration. im a infantry veteran and water is my thing. the system needs to bleed and run for about 15 minutes to fully start pushing RO water up, and make sure you bleed the filters into the sink for 15 minutes before you allow it to flow into the storage tank so you dont get any weird stuff potentially in the storage tank. noticeable difference in health and rate of consumption to the body because once the body gets rid of the old heavy water you start to flush this new water in and you feel much better.5Removed nitrates, looks slick.Recently purchased a house on the edge of a farm field and found out I had high nitrates (22p) in my water. After extensive research I decided on this to hopefully negate those nitrates. After install I had another test done and I now have 0.64p (healthy levels are 10p or less). Very happy and impressed with this system. As seen in the picture, we actually mounted this in the basement and ran the water upstairs to the kitchen sink. Worked really slick as we can still use below the sink for various dishwashing supplies, water bottles, and super soakers. Planning on retesting in spring after planting to see if we're still below healthy limits and will update this review if we're not. Would recommend this product!5RO system outlasted my girlfriendI learned about reverse osmosis water from a girlfriend who later dumped me. She s gone, but I still have the RO water. I win.Although I knocked some stars off for the installation being complicated, that s really not fair because I didn t install it. I had a plumber put it in. But I saw enough to know that there is no way I could ve done it. However, if you re really handy and patient, I m sure that it s doable.I had the plumber connect the water to a spigot at my sink as well as to the water inlet to my refrigerator water dispenser. That s great because now I can have room temperature water from the spigot or chilled water from my refrigerator. Plus now my ice cubes are nearly clear and they seem to dispense better...without clumping together. Also, having the RO water go to my refrigerator, means I don t have to buy the expensive, crappy little in-line carbon filters that I ve been buying for years. The refrigerator water filters from GE cost about $50 apiece so it won t take long for the system to pay for itself. That s another win.I bought a digital water tester on Amazon, because I m a geek, and found that my untreated water has total dissolved solids of 300 ppm. My treated water has 15 ppm. Somehow that translates into my water tasting really great, and that was the whole point of buying the system, so still another win.In closing, my advice is to go ahead and buy this wonderful RO system. It s very likely to outlast your current girlfriend.5
