Customer Reviews

Pricey But Nice Design That Should Hold Up For Years Why would you purchase stainless steel serving dishes? The main reason is their durability and their natural antimicrobial properties. You also need to consider that stainless steel will not break or crack so it should last a lifetime. I have lived in Southeast Asia so I am used to seeing and using stainless steel plates and glasses. This fry cup is a nice size and the dimples give it some flair which makes it stand out from ordinary stainless serving dishes. The price is high for a single cup (in Asian stores you can purchase a set of 4 for this price) but considering the design and the quality it is worth the extra cost. 5Useful for coralling small tools in my glass studio Last week my husband and I had lunch at the Cheesecake factory, and they did, in fact, deliver our fries in this very container, so I know it works as a fry holder... but, I have other things in mind. Somewhere between 10-20 years ago I wrotew a guide to outfitting a glass studio in Amazon's kitchen store, and this little cup would easily make that list. Anything made of stailess steel can be used in a glass studio. At the moment I am using it to store my punch set and other small tools, but am thinking about using it for water to cool my tools {and safely get rid of excess hot glass). It is sturdy and attractive and there are a lot of ways it can be used, holding fries among them ;) 5Stylish & other uses for it than French Fries When I go out to eat, I love when they place the french fries in cups like these. It's great for presentation, & makes your dinner look "fancier". So this caught my eye, however I knew when I ordered it, I would not be using it for french fries. I wanted to try it to use in my bathroom to hold toothbrushes. I'm happy to say it is working well & I like it., & it can definitely be used for other things besides fries. This is a nicely made, stylish Stainless steel cup. It looks even better in person than it does in the picture. The rim is smooth- no sharp edges. The hammered look makes it stylish. There are no markings, stickers or labels on the bottom, so you don't have to worry about any labels to remove. Looking at the price (at current time of writing), it's a good value. I could not find 1 thing I didn't like about this, so it's a great 5/5 stars for me.Would I recommend? YesQuality? Very nice 5I think it would look even better if the dimples to go all the way up ... This is quite attractive. However, I think it would look even better if the dimples to go all the way up the rim and all the way down the bottom of the cup like the second picture shows on the product page. My cup also didn't lay flat completely and has a minuscule amount of wobble. Another point is I would have love a mirror finish. Instead, this has a matte'ish finish resulting from the very fine abrasion lines leftover from the machining. The quality of the stainless steel appears decent. Not sure if it's 18/8 stainless steel though. This information wasn't provided in the product description and the package didn't come with any product literature. The cup is large enough to hold a serving of fries. What constitutes a serving for you might differ from what constitutes a serving for me. So, to give you a rough idea of the size of this thing: it will hold approximately the quantity of fries that comes in a large order of McDonald's French Fries. It can also be used as a drinking cup or a cup for dipping sauce. For use as a cup for dipping sauce, the cup has a brim with more-than-ample clearance for accommodating most foods with larger spans like like chips, chicken wings, etc. and [obviously] foods with smaller spans like chicken nuggets, Rangoons, popcorn shrimp, etc. ---All in all, the quality is decent and it looks attractive enough. Plus, it's not too pricey, although I do feel 5.00 to 7.50 would have been more reasonable given the overall quality of the piece. 4Coolest These are the coolest! I bought these for my husband who always wanted a french fry holder for at home like at the resturants! I use these for all types of store bought frozen potatos. They keep food hot and just look great. Excellent quality! 5Very nice. They don't break and stand nicely up to my dishwasher. Edges are a bit sharper than I imagined. But certainly no big deal. 5I saw this used in a very nice bar where they poured your excess martini (any up ... I saw this used in a very nice bar where they poured your excess martini (any up drink) in a small 6 ounce wine beaker and then set the beaker in this cup with a little crushed ice and small amount of water in the cup to keep the excess drink cold and not watered down. Very cool. Also, great for setting out condiments, snacks, lemons, limes etc. 5Pretty and Functional We use it as a pen holder for the desk. So pretty and works great! 5For More Than Just Fries While the American Metalcraft Stainless Steel Fry Cup is a fun and attractive way to serve a decent sized portion of french fries, its utility doesn't stop there. Other kinds of fried sides, carrot sticks, string beans, grapes and a ton of other food can also be served in this dimpled metal wonder. At 14 oz. it can hold quite a bit. It can also be used to store everyday objects like nails, screws, rubber bands, paper clips, pencils & pens, and much, much more. There are likely cheaper options for the more mundane uses, but there's nothing stopping one from doing so. Also, the price is a bit steep for a side serving container, but if you want this specific look and considering what it's constructed from, you can't go wrong.I really like the way the Fry Cup feels in the hand. The dimples in the steel give it a pleasing texture and added grip. They don't quite go all the way to the top but they catch the light with a lovely shimmer (photos). Being metal, heat and cold transfers from the contents to the cup, so I wouldn't recommend using this for hot liquids like soup, coffee or tea. The lip isn't sharp in any way, but it isn't refined enough that I would recommend drinking directly from it, though I suppose you could. It would certainly be a fancy way to serve a high-ball or iced tea. Just be prepared for it to "sweat" a bit and use a coaster underneath. The stainless steel cleans easily and is very, very tough. I'll see how it hold up over time, but I plan to hand wash it so don't expect any corrosion issues. If you want to class-up the way you serve your sides and/or don't want them to interact with other foods on the main plate, then the American Metalcraft Stainless Steel Fry Cup is an excellent option. A set of these would make a generous and welcome gift to the right person.~ Kort 5sort of limited purpose, but good size A good-sized serving cup, made of hammered stainless. It's similar to the fry cups nicer restaurants use to present your side order (and to prevent the drippings from your main course from sogging up the fries on the plate). It's pretty solid in-hand-- no sense that it'll crumple from aggressive use.The cup is also bigger than I expected (its 14 oz volume capacity is similar to a water glass), making it less useful for small snacks. Pictured, containing 6oz (weight) of Trader Joe's peanuts, which is quite a few peanuts. This cup might work for other low-density side dishes, or large snacks (like peanuts in the shell or pretzel bites). Maybe asparagus, carrot strips, or other long/tall vegetables. But mostly, it seems to be purpose-suited to holding a nice serving of fries. Sort of a limited purpose for a home cook who presumably doesn't make fries very often. And if you're bothering with settings, you'll need one per diner. But for that very specific purpose, Recommended. 4
